  • Kenwood,
If you stay one night you can use the waterpark both days so plan on arriving early if you want to go in bothn days. Check-in time for the hotel is around 1500. Hotel guests can get into the waterpark early - beat the crowds and ride the Masterblaster. You also get cheaper tickets to the waterpark after 1700 when the crowds begin to die down

Cheaper Tickets? I thought it was just £8 (prepaid) and use all day?

Did someone mention using Tesco vouchers to buy the waterpark tickets?

Can anyone suggest things to see and do in the area?

Have they charged anyone's card ? Mine has not been charged . I do not want to turn up and find out i have problems ( re: offer, facilities blah blah)
As previously mentioned the confirmation e-mail states the hotel will charge directly on arrival. I've noticed my available balance went down by £1 when I booked so presumably lastminute.com just auth'ed the card.

Crispy - I know I have pressed your thanks button but I just wanted to post to say thankyou. Been a big help on this thread! lol. Need to find out when the OH is free first, then might start asking some more questions. :p
You're more than welcome, glad I've been able to help. Keep the questions coming :)

Someone asked about the Tesco vouchers but it's only possible to use them towards theme park tickets.

Staffs Moorlands council and Tourism UK have some local attractions on their websites, also I think there's a leaflet stand in the hotel. Reception/Concierge will certainly be able to offer some suggestions, etc.

If you stay for 1 night (say Friday night), when can you use the waterpark? Can you go on the Friday or Saturday, or both.

    Does anyone know check-in/out times?
You can use the waterpark on both days (although you'll need to pay twice). If arriving before / staying after check-in/out times then the hotel can look after luggage for you (or you can always stick it in the car).

Check-in 14:00, check-out 11:00, according to lastminute.com e-mails. If you get there before then they may have rooms ready so always worth asking.

Depending how late in the day it is, how busy it is, etc. you might be able to haggle a bit to get discounted entry into the waterpark. Also worth trying if you're planning on paying for it both days, it's worth a shot, worst they can say is no :)

See above for some tourist links, posting a few quotes below from our members with recommendations for local places to eat.

I have been staying in Alton village for many years and have eaten in just about every establishment!

I would recommend either The Bull in the high street, or The Royal Oak, which is basically turn left at the bottom end of the high street, walk along the road past a couple of shops and then turn right down hill. The Royal Oak faces you at the bottom of the hill.

The Bull has a formal restaurant with little room to actually eat in the bar area (booking recommended)
The Royal Oak offers good home cooked pub fare.

In the opposite direction, Ye Olde Star Inn (at the top of the hill, ie. out of the gates turn right) has very nice food and a nice selection of real ales.

The Blacksmith Arms does great food, dunno what times though. I can definately recommend the mixed grill for that belly busting experience, they're never in a rush to throw you out at 11.20pm either... and that's before 24 hr licences

Basically if you leave AT head through Alton and follow the road towards Cheadle/Uttoxetter it's the last pub in the village, if you pass Alverton Motel on the left you've gone about 100 yds too far

Food at the Peakstones Inn is also pretty nice, their lasagne was beautiful.

A few of those have directions with them although you can more than likely find their addresses/maps online should you need them. Some will have websites as well as many of them offer B&B.

edit: Some more attractions and addresses for most of the pubs mentioned here, http://www.alton-staffs.co.uk/pubs_restaurants.php

Just booked 3 rooms for the 1st dec and as the food at both hotels isnt up to much, i will be eating outside the park. Many thanks for the posting though.
  • Any other recommendations for brekkie?

At the risk of sounding like an awkward customer we are not little chef fans and won't pay £11.00 pp (well maybe on our lasst morning if it smells really nice :D)
    Peek-a-boo
  • Many thanks for this, and for all the advice, booked 3 rooms for 9 adults and 2 children for a family pre christmas get together for the grand total of £2.72 a head! If we can manage to blag a brekkie out of the deal as well it'll be the bargain of the year.
  • WOW! Thanks very much to the OP

Just booked a 2 night stay for me, DP and our 2 Boys.

    Can't wait! :T

Anyone rung up to confirm if we get some brekkie thrown in? Would be so nice of them! lol.

Just been speaking to some guys at work, and The Bull is highly recommended and apparently good value. So I think we will be going there!

Was tempted to take OH in the Spa (I'm not actually telling her where we are going, just going to be a lil suprise) but after some of the reviews I'm not sure I will bother. My Esporta gym seems just as good!

Already there seems to be 3 of us all going to be there on the 1st December - all MSers should wear a badge or something. If the nudists can have an event, so can we! lol.
  • My e-mail confirmation says

'' Please note that breakfast is not included unless stated in the room type booked''

    also...

    ''Leisure facilities

    Indoor swimming pool
    Spa
    Indoor Waterpark
    Outdoor thermal pools & slides''

 When I have booked hotels before through lastminute.com it norma;;y has an ''*'' next to facilities which may iccur additional costs. The Alton Towers advert did not have the little stars

I'm a little confused as to wether the Water Park will be free or not? How did you pre-book waterpark tickets?
