Bless! Kids are very fussy about things aren't they!? I think I will try the reward chart.Asked DS1 this morning if he needed a pee and he said no. I then said but what about the Easter Bunny(told him bunny would only come if he peed in the loo!) and he went straight in and flushed it and everything! Firdt time he's done that in a week!
So I think a sticker chart would be great!!!Thanks!Sept. grocery challenge = £500 (221.60 so far!;))0 -
Hello
Lots of good advice on this board, but some of the posts worry me a bit (maybe they are joking?).
Personally I believe, like others, in re-inforcing positive behaviour and completely ignoring 'bad' behaviour at this age. Telling tales of the 'child-catcher' might well work to stop the weeing on the floor, but it might also bring you back to the board asking for a advice about a 3-year old afraid to sleep alone/suffering nightmares, etc!
Remember that, at this age, kids need lots of repetition before new habits sink in, so whatever you decide to do (sticker chart/hugs/praise) keep it up for a couple of weeks without changing tactics, to give it a proper chance to work. Try to set aside your feelings of immediate frustration (even though they are very real and valid!) and think about what you want in the longer term, ie a happy, settled and toilet trained child.
Good luck and lots of hugs...

I used a book called "potty training in one week" by Gina Ford, about £5.
It was wonderful for my little girl aged 2 and a half. She had one accident on the first day and then within 4 days she went to the toilet on her own.
I had this book reccomended to me and I would highly reccomedn it to others!
I hope this helps,

Even now he has a 'favourite' toilet in the house and 'doesn't like' the downstairs one so 'can't' use it if the bathroom is occupied. He's 14!Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
We also did the reward chart system - in fact we bought one from the early learning centre which has magnets. You can write on it what you want and then reward with a magnet and if they get so many magnets, you can reward them.
It`s great because its a wipe board, once you`ve finished using it for toilet training you can use it behaviour etc too !! It was £6.

"Oh, you've peed on the carpet, hooray! A chocolate for mummy then!"
That should seriously mess with his mind!
Aah pure headology - fantastic! The ability of skinny old ladies to carry huge loads is phenomenal. An ant can carry one hundred times its own weight, but there is no known limit to the lifting power of the average tiny eighty-year-old Spanish peasant grandmother.0 -
Our not so little one...two and a half wont use the pot....anybody know where we can get hold of something like a small chair that is a potty, i have seen one somewhere but just can't find it....cheers0

We bought ours at mothercare but this was a fair amount of time ago (about 3 years). It's like a combination chair/potty that you can remove the potty part for cleaning.
It's called a "potty chair" and this one is from their disney range.4oz rice crispies, 4oz butter, 4 mars bars.Melt, mix, cool, eat. Yummy!0 -
Just another thing though - you could try going straight to toilet which is what my youngest preferred - we ought a toilet seat that has an additional seat you can drop down for littler ones.4oz rice crispies, 4oz butter, 4 mars bars.Melt, mix, cool, eat. Yummy!0

Hello, I've posted asking for help with potty training before and now I really need some more advice. My little boy (who will be 3 in october) has gone from using the potty on demand half the time and wetting himself the other half, to doing no wees all day (10 hours or more) and then either wetting himself or doing it in the potty just before bedtime, after a LOT of persuasion.
He needs a lot of bribing and persuading to sit on the potty at any time and won't sit on the toilet either.
I thought it might be a good thing that he can hold his wee all day but it also means he isn't going for no.2s either and as he already has constipation, this is not good news.
Has anyone else had experience of children refusing to do anything in the potty until they absolutely have to? If he had his own way he would hold it all day until he had his night nappy put on.
He is very stubborn and generally doesn't like to do things until he's decided to do them so I am trying not to pressure him but I don't want him to develop problems as a result of not going all day...please help!0
