Your money or your wife ? Is Cesarina the new Martin ?

Not a chance.
Does anyone find this 'money saving' program a joke ?
She works out what they owe. Announces it in a way to put a strain on the marrage. Suggest to them ebay their Possessions, even getting someone to put a price on their washing machine. Then says she can cut their debt, by only allowing them to spend £8.50 a day and making them sell a car.....wooppeeedooo.
No mention of cheaper, free interest credit cards, cutting utility bills, vouchers, where to shop, moving bank accounts, moving mortgages.
A quick google of Cesarina Holm-Kander says she is a business trouble shooter, which to me is a completly different area of expertise.
How did she get a prime time slot ?????
Nuff said, keep it real Martin !!!

Totally agree with you. I'm not sure why I keep watching it!
Wish they could swap it for Make Me Rich - now that deserved a prime time slot.Overpay!0 -
I totally agree, what a load of rubbish!!! I ahve not learnt anything from that programme, we could all do a better job than she is doing!!! Sticking prices on items like their washing machine, who is going to sell that these days! Signing an agreement, and tagging them, have the couples actually taken any responsibility for their budget/spending.
Drives me mad, how did she get to do that programme, what a load of pants!
How do couples not reaslise their partners are in that much debt, so I am not married or anything, but I would like to think I would know if my hubby was in that much debt or can it really go unnoticed??Became debt free in 2007 after having £15k of debt. Have been a stranger to MSE and now want to get back into my old MSE habits and save, save, save0 -
Martin the marvellous she aint. How she figures people will pay off so much debt in such a short time is beyond me but only caught the last minute tonight...Nerd no 109 Long haulers supporters DFW #1! Even in the darkest moments, love and hope are always possible.0

Agree, that proggy is absoloute cr*p!!!
Its going to get boring her telling people to sell their car off every week and throwing a bundle of £20 notes away.....
Even my non-MSE girlfriend knows how stupid the programme is, we all realise that she is trying to make a big impact in a short space of time, but she could do smaller things (i.e. wash clothes at 30 degrees, knock the heating down by 2 degrees etc) and then work out how much that would save compounded!!!
I would lover her to come round to my house and tell me how we could cut our debts down but frankly it would make rubbish tv!! We have a car each and both are essential to our jobs and they are worth about £500 - £800 each so she'd be doomed to fail with no cars to sell and our spending well reigned in!!!
Also did anyone else notice that the idiot on tonights proggy test drove that car and didn't have his seatbelt on the whole time!!!

How stupid is it to even suggest selling a necessity such as the washing machine! How much would it cost them every week if they had to go to the launderette if they didn't have the machine.
It's the same every week. Throw away some money, sell thier stuff on eBay, set them up, secretly film them, confront them.
He sold his car but didn't he have £40k of debt? If he had that amount of debt I doubt if he'd even paid for the car in the first place.0 -
I watch this muck as well just to see if any ideas come out of it. Ended up browsing and posting on here tonight during it as it was boooooooooring. She tells them they will be debt free in like 5 mins practically and for anyone who has used the debt snowball how likely is that? come on !!!0

When I've been in many TV pitches - they often simply want the cut up credit card approach. It's easy, its visual, its not complicated, it doesn't annoy advertisers, it can play pop-psychology. Someone sits in a development office saying 'let's do a money programme' and they think this is a money programme. I'm not allowed to say which of these programmes I've been involved in the pilots of only to be told "no its too complicated, we just want to keep it simple", but at least two of the major ones
Not this one of course, they decided to grow their own expert. So they brought a business person in..... well I know I certainly couldn't go and take the role in Dragon's Den as (apart from the cash) it's an entirely different expertise, but obviously this way round.....
I think I've said more than enough.... I usually try and keep quiet on such things, and sit throwing socks at the telly silently, so this post is deliberately hidden in this thread....
You could always try telling Channel 4!

I've watched all three of these so far - in the hope that they come up with something a little more involved than selling the car (funny how all the people featured in this programme have lovely cars to sell - would love to see Cesarina's take on some true DFWs who don't own a Lexus/BMW/Mercedes which instantly brings in a few thousand!).
Sadly, throwing money off a balcony (or tying it to balloons or giving it to strangers in the street!) and selling an expensive car doesn't teach them how to cut back and make savings - a couple of hours trawling this website could teach them so much more in the way of useful tips, which they could then put into practice and take on board as a way of life...! I'd be interested to see the finer details when she says "if you continue living this way, you'll be debt free by ...." as I often don't see how this is possible (e.g. the guy tonight will be debt free in under 2 years, yet still has £30,000+ to clear - no explanation of what "this way" involves - he certainly doesn't have half a dozen Lexus cars to sell, yet only managed a couple of thousand in addition to the car in the first month... Surely, keeping to this budget, and allowing for the fact that he got rid of all the "one off" things in the first month, how can he possibly hope to clear £30,000 in 20 months?!:o).
In short, no way can Cesarina thingy-wotsit be the new Martin...she couldn't even get onto the short list for becoming a "trainee Martin-in-waiting".:rotfl:
I, too, puzzle as to why this show gets prime time air space when there are so many better options out there (Make Me Rich, anyone?!)?!?!;)
