Does it say what chipset its using , Siriff II or III
you could always try this bit if software to load your own poi's
http://www.poiedit.com/
it connects to sites that have pois and converts them to use on your own satnav, may work on this unit.0 -
Uses the Centrality Atlas II 300MHz chip.0

Ive tried to compare both models on evesham website but not sure which comes out the best. 7000 says pedestrian and car use (or is that for all sat nav systems?). the 6200's battery lasts longer but the bit I'm unsure about is memory, screen reolution etc.
question is, should I get the 7000 or keep 6200? Already decided not to consider Tesco one after reading previous post.
I'm also concerned about having to pay £30 a year for updates. will it still work without the updates e.g will the speed cameras alert continue to work for all existing but not for new ones? Or will there be some MSE'r who will find a free / cheaper way to update.
any advice?
hmm interesting... the 7000 uses the SirfII chipset and the 6200 uses the Centrality Atlas. The specs are comparable, the 7000 comes with an SD card and is expandable, but the 6200 has the flash rom and no SD card. The 7000 has hardware buttons in addition to touch screen (may be good if the touch screen breaks). The 6200 has a little more battery life (since it's a larger battery). The 7000 has a headset option to hear the audio (this is probably just for pedestrian use)...

£30 for a year seems quite reasonable to me. It's a bit more than you'd pay to PocketGPS.com for a similar service. I think they're updates are £2 per month, so £24 in total.
POI Edit is good but you still need to get the speed cams from pocketgps.com. There's a free one you can get through Poi Edit but it's well out of date now.Marillion - A Better Way of Life.0 -

If you can get the nav-cam 7000 at Makro for £117.50, I think that would be a stonking bargain.

Edit: Makro also have the Medion Gopal 210 with similar spec for £99 +VAT0 -
Early impressions of the unit.
The only way to charge the unit is in car. It does not come with a mains PSU, and you cannot use the USB cable for charging. The USB cable is for reading content of the flash memory, SD card, etc.
The dosking cradle is a bu**er to put on. It takes several attempts until it is secured.
Spped camera warning: The 6200 gives a speed camera warning if you are in the VICINITY of a camera - i.e. the camera could be in a parallel road, or even on the opposite side of the road. You still get a (pointless) warning. So unlike more "intelligent" camera warning devices like road angel, which do not give a warning unless there is a camera in the direction of travel, it seems the camera warning on the 6200 is somewhat flawed, and certainly not for everyday use.
The device has also crashed on me during one trip (i.e. froze/hung), and had to do a soft reset.
Also, the directions given at roundabouts can be pretty confusing. i.e. at a roundabout where the third exit is on the right, the device correctly says "third exit", and the little roundaboput diagram comes up, but it shows third exit as straight on the little diagram, as opposed to being on the right. The exit is displayed correctly on the main map, however. It is only on the little roundabout symbol on the top left of the screen, that an incorrect symbol is shown.
Apart from these criticisms, mostly good though. It re-routes very quickly, acquires and mainitains signal very well, and is small enough (about the same size and thickness as a packet of cigarettes) to slip into a pocket.happy-hoor

I thought someone said the 7000 was £99 at Makro?0 -

Thanks everyone for your feedback
Still a little unsure so I may get the 7000 as well (they told me in Makro they only had a couple in stock) and then do some more research.
I am thinking that the 7000 may be better even though I still dont understand the specs on either. The battery life was a concern but in reality I would not need to use the battery in the car as it would use the in car charger.
I think there are some makes with free updates but dont know if they are any at this sort of price. Anyone know?
Thanks again0
