When i got my 6200 at xmas i too was confused about this card reader buisiness .
I phoned Evesham direct and they explained to me that for MODELS 6200 onwards , a card reader is not needed
I've just updated mine this morning with no problems at all :T
The procedure was : Download the update from here http://www.evesham.com/navcam/default.asp?e=28792493-E6C9-464F-B4D4-B326A7031172
Save to your dektop and then connect your sat nav to your pc via the supplied usb cable
All you have to do now is open up the update on your desktop and follow the promps , it takes seconds .
In my opinion the 6600 is superb value for money , and even my mates at work with their so called top of the range tom toms have problems with their units :rotfl:
Sure , the 6200 looses charge fairly quickly , so do what i did , buy a mains charger :

The update that was available last week, which has been identical for Feb and March, instructs the user to insert a memory card into a card reader and then run the application. Perhaps it should say 'connect the SatNav to your PC via USB and then run the update'. Just a slight typo on their part.
I've already got a mains charger that allows you to plug any USB device in and charge it, but why would I want to charge the unit every few days on the off chance that I'm going to use it? Surely if it has a full charge on day 1, then you'd expect it to have some charge 5 days later. The 6200 is so bad at holding a charge.
I haven't used mine for about a fortnight now, and I know that if I suddenly decide to use it over the weekend that I can't set my route until I'm sat in the car with the engine running, with the GF sat next to me saying 'we could be halfway there by now!' while I'm waiting for it to have enough charge to turn on. Likewise, I'm not going to charge it tonight because there's an equal chance that I won't be using it so it would be pointless wasting a charge on it.0 -
I guess evesham should change that message telling people that a card reader is needed coz it's very misleading
suppose it's like everything else , everyones got their own opinion of a product and so far i've had no problems at all with the 6200 .
As an earlier post explains , after the wifes discount and gift vouchers , the total price she paid for the 6200 was £69.99 :j
At that price i don't think that a few niggles is anything to gripe about .
Suppose it's still early days and time will tell ,

i'm after the mains charger but LowestOnWeb states they are "awaiting delivery" - is there any one who has one, that can tell me if theirs is 12v or 24v so I can just buy a suitable voltage adapter please
i'm looking at this but if it copes at 24v which I think it does, I'll get a 24v adapter to charge in half the time!
Thank You0 -
Hi CDR1122.
I've looked on the back of my mains charger and it says : INPUT 100 - 240 V
Hope this helps ,

Just bear in mind that with the evesham 7700/6200 deal the unit may be labelled as a 6200 but is using 7700 operating system. Therefore to upadet the cameras without a memory card you need to download the 7700 software from the nav-cam site. NOT THE 6200 SOFTWARE. as this will not work.
You also need to install microsoft activesync which is on the CD that comes with the unit and then connect the unit via USB as a GUEST.
It should all work fine..
Yours after wasting 3 hours on the problem.....,

Hi chris JD
I contacted the evesham technical department via email and they said that your posting regarding the 6200 update is totally WRONG
Please see evesham tech departments answer : Thank you for your e-mail of 02 May 2007
The information contained in your email is incorrect. The 6200 should only be updated using the updates from the 6200 part of our website. Neither SD card nor Activesync are required.

Anyone who is looking for a mains charger for the 6200 should be aware it is 5V dc. My PSP charger works like a treat with it, so just get a PSP charger from a game shop.0

Had mine 6 months now and just registered it and did a download, how do you know it worked? downloaded to desk top but didnt seem to talk to the device has it worked how can i check. I have read all the threads, and my comment would be that you learn its ways over time. I find it gets you to a point within 100 yds most times. sometimes it will say turn slightly left or right when the road is straight, or tell you to turn left when its actually straight ahead but left as well, even though there is a left at the junction,0
