Not sure if it includes the full car mounting kit (the blurb on the back of the display case just mentioned "optional" cradle), but a good price for this unit if it does. I don't think this one is hackable though as the software is held on the unit's internal flash memory rather than on a memory card. Someone will no doubt come along and prove me wrong though...;) :p
How much do staff get off at Sainsbury's then?

The optional cradle might be the TMC module. A standard Car Mount should be included.
  • i have a medion/evsham sat nav, very poor quality, keeps crashing, does not retain charge, evsham custerer service is rubbish, they just keep saying there is nothing wrong with it. the GPS takes 30mins to find where i am - not much point cos by then i'm really lost!!

The first speed cam update is available now (if registered) from the navcam/evesham website.

I've bought three 6200s so far. The first for my wife as I thought I wouldn't ever need a sat-nav. I played with it for a day and then bought one for myself. There was some kind of memory error on one of the units and it was exchanged for a replacement unit with no problems (ASDA no questions asked).

It can take a few mins to find the satellites but once found it stays found.

    Good:
Went to a wedding last weekend driving from cosy clotted Cornwall to deepest darkest Guildford. It took us right to the door of the Hotel without fuss through torrential rain and darkness.

    Bad:
Got stuck in rush hour traffic in Barnstaple this week and the 6200 wanted to send me all the way round town instead of asking me to U-turn. Sometimes wants to send me on slightly longer routes but I think that's from the "fastest" settings. I've experienced the run-down battery problem but I now make sure I'm completely out of the navigator app and I haven't had this happen since.

    All in all:
I'm a happy bunny. I've not had satnav before and £99 was what I was prepared to pay to get it. Given the speed with which technology moves I'd rather spend £99 on an item that will quickly be superceeded/become obsolete, rather than £300. It works with some caveats and glitches. Check the route and keep your atlas.

Oh yeah, I've ripped a language CD to MP3 and when its not telling me where to go, its teaching me German. If you want to charge this kind of thing in the house (not usb) you can buy mains transformers with a cigar plug socket and charge most car stuff in the house. (search "cigar power supply").

    Cheers.

I'm managed to change and delete items from my bookmarks xml list no problem - but I was wondering, is it possible to find out which file is the audio one that does the touch screen "click" - it's extremely annoying. Maybe we can replace it with a silent file?

    TIA
    Helen

You will need to hack the unit if you want to put tom tom on it , the units are made by LiteOn BTW
Erm ok how do you do this may I ask. Google doesn't find anything of help, for this unit inparticular or liteon.

    Edit found....

Well I managed to get TomTom 6 working on the Evesham 6200 hardware. It's a bit slow navigating longer routes, but not too slow as to be annoying.

There's a link on this thread somewhere that tells you how to open the Windows CE desktop. From there you can go into control panel and turn the clicking off or turn the volume down. I've found the Evesham software tends to turn this back to it's original setting though. With enough tinkering you could probably disable it or rename a .wav under the Windows directory so that it can't play it.

One problem I've found with this is that even though it lets me put a 7 digit postcode in it often directs me to the surrounding area. Usually it instructs me to drive into a dark alley where it tells me I've reached my destination. Then as I turn my car round I see the place I'm looking for in the distance. Seems to work fine if I put the street name in instead.
  • Has anyone else updated the speed cameras yet?.
