So you see that mapping is pretty much as new as it can be!

and nope! I just like it and think it really is a good deal in comparrison to others on the market at this price, I've been searching for a cheap device for a while and I'm pleased I got this one.
• Have to say i,ve returned mine today. It keeps taking me way off track and adding miles instead of saving time. Also doesn,t recognise some roads that have been there for years and changes the name of some it does recognise, including my home address.

mine was automatically set with the blokes voice when i turned mine on....if you want to change the voice to male/female you need to go to navigator....then press the button on bottom left.....press change settings.....press change language....press great britain flag.....then you can pick english male or english female voice :D

I emailed Evesham Customers services on Saturday night, and got a respose earlier today.
I asked them:
* Can you remove items from the 'Recent Destinations' list? Or is it
set to only display the last 15 or something destinations?
* Is there a way to create your own POI (Points of Interest), other
than "Bookmarks"under favourites?
* https://www.navi-plugins.com <http://www.navi-plugins.com> is not
compatible with the 6200 model - will it be? and as such, is there
a way to update the map software?

and they replied:
I have to advise you that the Evesham Nav-Cam 6200 has been designed to retain a number of bookmarks and "recent destinations", so that you have easy access to them if you want to use them again.

There is no way to delete the bookmarks / destinations, but once the limit has been reached, the oldest one is automatically deleted.

It isn’t possible to create custom POIs.

I can advise you that the Evesham Nav-Cam 6200 has Teleatlas Q3 2006 maps installed. Map updates will be available as chargeable downloads at a later date. I don’t have any release date or pricing information at this time.

Hope this helps :) as someone else said, it runs Teleatlas, but others have queried the 'recent places' and stuff
• I e-mailed Evesham about the out of date maps:-

"There are a few reports on the web about this model having maps that are a year or two out of date.
As I'm interested in buying one, what's the situation regarding any map updates.
Will there be any & if so, will they be free or chargeable?"

Their reply was:-

with regards to the "reliability" of directions I've only had the one problem when I was in a car park off the main road and it decided to route me via a roundabout on the opposite side. My only gripe is the settings i.e. "fastest" and "shortest"(surely it should be the two combined) as well as the speed camera alert sound which I would like to change (haven't sussed out how yet). The speed of aquiring a signal is very impressive, picks up even indoors and very quickly.
Perhaps there are a few teething troubles and for those who rely on satnavs for everyday use it may pay to look elsewhere, but otherwise I think it's not a bad piece of kit for the money albeit rushed out too quick to catch the christmas rush.

Thanks, but it is ok now I selected the foreign flags and then went back and selected the english and there it was, male and female. it was blank before! I do find them both annoying mind, although in their favour is the fact you can call them stupid and stubborn and they dont seem to take offence. (unlike my normal navigator)
• I bought one on Saturday and thanks to the helpful tips on this board managed to get it working okay.

I used it on Monday because I had to take a detour around Preston to drop my son off at Hutton then find a quick route back to the M61.

It took me through a few villages I have never heard of and I was about to panic thinking I was totally lost when lo and hehold I came out onto a main road near Chorley and joined the M61. Very impressed.

Also on the outskirts of preston it gave me a "mobile camera warning" in a 40mph limit - I was doing around 50mph so I slowed down and further up the road PC Plod was stood with his mobile camera so I may have saved myself £60 into the bargain.

No complaints from me.

Hmmm, When I first had it it bleeped at cameras. Then trying it out again it didn't, then on the next journey it did, after that I tried the route finder & it did a good job, even re calculating automatically when I went away from the route because of road works. Now today I just turned it on & went over 2 speed cameras (one I didn't know was there) & it didn't beep (I was driving within the speed limit anyway). I phoned up the helpline & they went through it with me & the speed cameras were turned on, so the sugestion was to do a restart, & if that didn't work then the software has got corrupted & to put it on again via the disc. Well as I hadn't used it between the last time & now I find it unreliable. They also said there are no maps for Spain & although a lot of people have asked they will have to see if it's worth there while. Not good enough for me I'm afraid. Does the Tom Tom at £200-00 have these problems & can you get a map for Spain. I don't like the Bulge at the back of the Tom Tom so is there another one without that bulge that could be recommended. Not too expensive. Please...
Nice to save.

Any PDA. And the TTOne V2 is less bulgy than it's forerunners. Maps for anywhere you like are available too. There's a refurb Medion PDA on their online shop which is well regarded (£99.95).

I'm seriously considering taking my Evesham back. I so want it to work but with the price of these things plummeting it won't be long before something else comes along which has been properly and thoroughly tested before release.

Mike.
