Good points...
- Cheap!
- Easy to use
- Fairly quick
- Plenty of options for the price
- Comes with everything you need to hook it up in the car
- Touch screen
- It works
Bad points
- Maps are 2 years out of date (see below)
- Lack of updates/info on website
- Missing vital map details (see below)
- Only supports short postcodes, i.e. WA10 1.
All in all, it's a good buy but it did try to take me through a pedestrianised area in St. Helens. It's been pedestrianised for years too, so it's not just a bad map. It was also missing a roundabout. It gave me a 'turn left' rather than 'last exit off the roundabout.' It's also got some street names wrong, where one street 'becomes' another, it doesn't seem to know where one starts and the next begins, so it can lead to difficulties if you're navigating by street name.
Regarding the maps, etc, they're provided by TeleAtlas, through Smart2Go (which I think is the software). The last time these were updated, according to their websites, was January 2005. That'll probably be fine on the whole, but in the cases of pedestrianisation could be problematic.
I hope somebody figures out how to update this thing, with added details like one-way systems, etc. Even the maps that are right seem to be missing the odd bit of detail. The maps are in CDT format, if that's any help to anybody!
We were at Thatto Heath last night attempting to get to the M62 and at a road where we knew it was a left turn (since that was the way we came). The Evesham said go right. We went with it to see what happened. It took us along the A570 (I think ?), right into St. Helens town centre and further along the same road, past the big supermarket. Then as we went along the same road past a retail park on the right (Currys etc) it said take the fifth exit off the next roundabout. This took us back the way we had just come from. A few hundred yards later it wanted us to take the fourth exit off the next roundabout. That's right, back the way it had just had us going anyway. We would have been stuck in a game of motorised ping-pong...
I attempted to redo the route and the 6200 refused to enter Navigation mode (it had frozen on the startup screen) so I had to fumble around in my pocket for a key thin enough to reset it before we met another juction which would have taken us even further off course. Ended up turning it off and following the signs

Mike.
Great, so you wasted how many pounds of petrol doing that? Add up the bad directions and this unit loses a lot of its value
Again, thanks everyone for posting. It sounds like this unit needs a little time to mature before it's great.0 -
Bought this SatNav on Sat. and spent most of the weekend trying to get it to work properly. I returned the product to ASDA this AM. I experienced most of the faults listed from previous postings...if the product was only 10p it is just not worth the aggravation....techie stuff is suppose to help. £99 is not a bargin if you cannot be confident the thing is going to work properly0

Someone has managed to get underneath the virtual skin of one of these so there might be a chance of it running better software:

I won't be fiddling with mine in a hurry however. And do not hack your 6200 as shown and come back here complaining if it gets bOrk3d.0 -
Can any body tell me how to get voice commands? do I need to use CD. I thought it was switch on and go...0

Voice commands as in the woman saying "Turn left here"?
It was switch on and go with mine, Make sure the volume (top right black plastic slidey thing) is up and not off?0 -

I go to work up the A570 to the M62. When I get to the A570 (through a back route) the satnav also tells me to head back towards town. Obviously I know that's wrong and didn't follow the satnav on that one. God knows where it was leading me. When I got to the M62, it corrected itself.0 -
Having checked out the mapping you will find it is TeleAtlas and it is late 06 data which means it is the same maps as used on TomTom devices.0
-
FYI, mapping info says "V4.0 Sep 22 2006"
Itchy20, do you work for Evesham or Asda ?0
