Got one of these yesterday and tried it out on a couple of short trips!
Good points...
- Cheap!
- Easy to use
- Fairly quick
- Plenty of options for the price
- Comes with everything you need to hook it up in the car
- Touch screen
- It works
Bad points
- Maps are 2 years out of date (see below)
- Lack of updates/info on website
- Missing vital map details (see below)
- Only supports short postcodes, i.e. WA10 1.
All in all, it's a good buy but it did try to take me through a pedestrianised area in St. Helens. It's been pedestrianised for years too, so it's not just a bad map. It was also missing a roundabout. It gave me a 'turn left' rather than 'last exit off the roundabout.' It's also got some street names wrong, where one street 'becomes' another, it doesn't seem to know where one starts and the next begins, so it can lead to difficulties if you're navigating by street name.
Regarding the maps, etc, they're provided by TeleAtlas, through Smart2Go (which I think is the software). The last time these were updated, according to their websites, was January 2005. That'll probably be fine on the whole, but in the cases of pedestrianisation could be problematic.
I hope somebody figures out how to update this thing, with added details like one-way systems, etc. Even the maps that are right seem to be missing the odd bit of detail. The maps are in CDT format, if that's any help to anybody!0 -

I have put a 6 digit postcode in and it worked fine0 -
you can type in full UK postcodes... but the system uses a short post code system search mechanism... when you play around with it you'll see that it wont give you the post code for a street that you are on... just the first four digits
any one know how or where i can find out how to load tomtom software on to this unit? or any other software...0 -
You will need to hack the unit if you want to put tom tom on it , the units are made by LiteOn BTW0
-
I see some on here think this unit is ok and some dont.
I dont want to spend any more than £100...Is this possibly the best unit available for that sort of money0 -
Like i mentioned the unit is ok for occasional use, if you want to use it all the time for work for example like me then its worth investing in one of the well known brands as they have regular updates from there websites and maps are up to date , and you can get the speed camera updates for free.
Also the branded ones have more accesories available like car mounts or chargers there are loads on Ebay for sale cheaply.
You can get the Garmin I3 for the same money not used it but it gets good reviews.0 -
Hi,
People have stated earlier that a SatNav in Makro may be better as it has a headphone socket and expandable slot via SD card... so does the Evesham 6200 from Asda (up to 2gb SD + headphone as it is also an MP3 player), no matter what people say on this thread! Makro is also £17.50 dearer.
It does come with a car mount and a car charger so I am not sure where deanos is getting his info on this from. In my opinion the only reason the dearer ones (quite a few of which have terrible reviews - look on Amazon) ARE dearer is because they came out first and could charge what they liked... they won't be able to do that now!0 -

If you need extra mounts or chargers for another car or if they break you will be hard pushed to get replacements cheaply for the cheapo units as they arnt supported like the branded units.0 -
I have the i3, but from what I'm reading on here, it'd probably be better to get the 6200 unit. Some of the big improvements are touch-screen, larger screen, a better GPS processor/receiver.
The i3 is very good for the money and I've been satisfied, but it is a bit slow to re-route and to get reception, you have to manually use a scroller to enter your info which takes a while, and the screen is small (but good enough).
I was able to get the Navman F20 for 99 quid, so I'll stick with one of those I think, but this 6200 does sound good for 99 (and sounds like it may be about what its value is too).0 -
Anyone worked out how you can delete bookmarks/favourites? I can see that getting annoying if they continue to build up.
I've also found it's accuracy's a little off, and the database may be a touch dodgy - it thinks Ware is in Essex, not HertsThis is putting my wife off using it, so it may need to go back and we'll look for an alternative. F20 looks a good possible, or the Garmin Nuvi - yes, I know they're more cash, but I have a feeling it'll be worth it if my wife likes and trusts it more.
