Well this isn't very MSE, but Catherine, having put down a £50 deposit on a dress has changed her mind and picked a different one! We had already booked a trying on session at another shop so went along anyway and she tried on 3 or 4 dresses. One of them was absolutely gorgeous! It was pale gold, with a full corset and an asymetric drape to one side with a short train. There is no decoration besides the draping of the fabric and it has all the petticoats etc you need built into the skirt. It was £999 but the sample dress fitted really well, and they offered Catherine the opportunity to buy the sample dress itself for £465. She was so lovely in it that I cried! She really thought hard, but we bought it because although the first dress was really nice, this one (in her words) made her 'squeeee'!
Still a bargain though even though we have lost £50 on the other dress.0 -
Hi we're looking at getting married in September 2012 in Scotland, (so we can tie it in with my grandparents diamond anniversery and family coming from over seas), I've looked and got a couple of quotes for venues £500 BUT we only want to use to venue for the wedding and NOT the reception. As the reception venue we are going to use the family house and garden. How do we go about haggling for the venue. The venue we like is currently were I volunteer and haven't given me a quote yet! But based on what I've reasearch on the internet is approximately £1500 for their package.:kisses3: Married 29th September 20120

Welcome dorisleeds and Scotsbride!
Scotsbride, I would just speak to the venue and explain that you only need it for a short time for the ceremony, and ask what their best price would be. The fact that you volunteer there anyway may help! If you would be willing to marry on a weekday it might help more, as they will probably get more interest for a Saturday from couples wanting to have their whole day there.
I haven't tried haggling myself yet (and admit the idea of it scares me a little), but have been told that the question 'is that your best price?' is a good one
Good luck, and let us know how it goes

Hi dorisleeds
White_Sapphire haggling over everyday things doesn't scare me as I use to work as a buyer but somehow it's different when it's more personnal and I'm working with the people.:kisses3: Married 29th September 20120 -
Hi,
I lurk on this website, mainly on the competition forum, but today had a nosey round some of the other forums and found this one, couldn't resist signing up and commenting.
We're hoping to get married on the 29th September 2012, as its my late grandma's birthday and the date would mean a lot to me.
But it all depends if we can raise enough money, (im currently on maternity, so money is tighter than normal!) and if I can lose some weight!
My colour theme is purple and teal, already started buy bits and bobs for the table decorations.
No clue about anything else though!Thoughts become things!0 -
Congratulations and welcome!
Money is a potential issue for me as well as I'm a student so only work part time - loads of tips on here for doing a wedding on the cheap (without looking like you are) so it can be done.
Love the colour scheme! I'm going for purple as well
Keep us posted!

...that it's only 493 days until my wedding! :T
And there are probably at least 4,931 things to do before I will be ready :eek:Marrying my lovely man on 1st September 2012
