LOL Nat, I know exactly what you mean about feeling you have to book things NOW! I keep thinking that another couple will turn up at our day venue with deposit in hand - in reality they have told me that we still get first refusal, and I spoke to them yesterday to confirm that we are definitely going with them and will get the deposit to them in the next few days. Then we have to confirm the evening venue, get the registrar to pencil us in and find a Humanist celebrant. When that's all done I can relax a bit and start telling everyone the date's definite and not just provisional, cos at the moment I'm paranoid that everyone will be booked up!
Tracey, no we didn't end up talking figures at the meal we had the other week, because we decided we didn't really want to discuss money with one set of parents in front of the other set, and we couldn't separate them! This time it's his parents initiating the conversation so I feel a bit more comfortable with it - what is it with us British and our reluctance to talk about money??
That's so exciting that you've already got a wedding box!! I can't wait to start buying bits, I may possibly have mentioned that before...:rotfl:Marrying my lovely man on 1st September 2012

good luck with it and i hope u get the answers you were looking for!
i know even though it seems ages off...u tell people and they go 'god thats ages off yet!' but when you talk to someone in a wedding business its as if its normal, some people book 3 years in advance!

It's great that other people are buying stuff and planning so much for a wedding more than 18 months away as well - we don't feel so silly when reading this thread, usually people say - but it's ages yet, and sort of roll their eyes!
Between us Catherine and I ( and David her H2B of course) have:
Worked out a detailed budget and put together a savings plan to show how we will pay for it - we are paying about 2/3, Catherine & David 1/3. (There may be a contribution from his parents, but we are not counting on it).
Developed detailed spreadsheets to keep track of spending, saving, suppliers and guests to both reception and evening buffet, which will let us know how many invitations to make, meals to arrange etc (I'm an IT Trainer so it was me being nerdy!)
Booked and paid for the village hall for the Humanist ceremony, reception and evening buffet
Booked the paying bar for the evening buffet
Booked the registry office for the legal ceremony
Identified a Humanist Celebrant - but haven't finalised this yet
Identified friends or family who will do: transport, catering, flowers, photographs, cake and possibly provide to live entertainment in the evening (still working on that one)
Bought 10 teal table runners and 10 teal candle bowls for table decorations
Bought the bride's veil and shoes (I know, but they were such a bargain!)
Seems like a lot but once the main things are sorted - we can relax for a few months!
As MOB I am really excited but always trying to remember this is Catherine and David's day, not mine and I keep referring to them and only doing what they want - so far they have been happy with my interference!

Wooooooo Hoooooooooo!!!! Just booked the date with the Vicar!!! Hehehehehe :T He is lovely as well. There are 2 vicars who share 2 churches, they take it in turns to go to each church as the other is a trainee, alternating each week. The Vicar was so excited when I rang to book it, as he was very close to Daniels Grandma, she was very into the Church. The vicar said that there was a wedding at the other church he goes to but the one we want to marry in was free (Phhheewww!) and he said "im going to nab your wedding, Michael can do the other one!" He said he would love to marry us as he feels a personal connection to the family.... Awwwww! Love it, cant wait now! Want to get married today! We are going to see him on Wed night at his vicarage (just coz i want to have a nosey inside, its lovely!!!) to discuss it!0

aww lovely news about ur vicar Nat! Thats exactly how we feel about our photographer, it makes u feel good when you know the person doing it actually wants too
cute!
me and OH have taken a different view on the wedding now and are kind of going to stick two fingers up at people who look down on us as if we arent having a wedding the way it 'should' be.
Eevn my dad is having a laugh about it....im a huge horror fan...LOVE horror films, and my fav is nightmare on elm street. but there is nothing in my day so far horror related (in which case my wedding isnt personalized enough LOL) i have however seen some nightmare on elm street shoes!!! totally awesome
My dad said....and i suppose you want me to walk you down the aisle wearing a hannibal mask? PMSL
I wont go that far though! LOL x:dance:

Its lovely isnt it, makes you feel like youre not just another couple on the list, and that they are happy for you and want to part of your day.
:rotfl:horror films are my worst nightmare - literally! Hate them. Even the adverts for paranormal activity 2 have been scaring me!!! hahaha. But if thats what you want on your day - you have it, and stick the fingers up!0
