September 2012 Brides and Grooms

  • Well after a trawl of village halls at the weekend, Catherine and David have decided on Dingestow Village Hall. It's twice the price of the next most expensive at £400 but it really is worth it - it is so pretty and has such good facilities. So now it's really official - the date (22 Sept 2012) and the venue are decided. There is a campsite opposite the venue and a Travelodge 2 miles down the road, so it should be good for people to stay quite cheaply!

They have decided that the tables are going to be named after herbs, with the meaning of the herb and a pot plant of it on each table - then they will be the start of a herb garden! So far we think there will be 8 tables of 8, and the herbs identified are:

Chamomile: energy in adversity, patience, long life, wisdom
    Dill: preservation, good spirits

    Lemon Balm: sociability, sympathy
    Marjoram: joy, happiness
    Mint: eternal refreshment, wisdom, virtue
    Rosemary: remembrance, love, loyalty, fidelity
Sage: wisdom, long life, immortality, esteem
    Thyme: activity, bravery, courage, strength

However, if anyone knows of any others that will be better all suggestions are gratefully received! (Not sure about chamomile - isn't it a lawn type plant?)

The hall tables are the trestle type, so we think we will put 2 together to make a square and cover them with a cream coloured double flat sheet (much cheaper to buy sheets than to hire tablecloths - and they might be useful again later) which we will then decorate with swags made of teal organza to follow the colour scheme.

So just the Humanist celebrant to book and then we can take a breather for a while!

    and tarragon?
a bit of a jekyl and hyde this one, on the one hand it is known as little dragon because of its root system which will strangle the plant if not divided up but on the other it is carried to bring compassion, love nurturing and peace, all the funadamental things needed in a marriage

Isn't it lovely! It looks white in the photo but it's actually really pale cream, which is great as her dress is ivory. It was £400 to book from Friday evening to Sunday morning which was a lot compared with other halls in our area, but worth the extra we think.

Also, thanks to bubbles0169 for the herb ideas - will definitely use them!
  • Hello Ladies
OMG I bought my dress today!!
Managed to buy the sample for £1000 down from £2400
They threw in the cost of repair just need to buy some extra lace to do the repairs with!!
Its all so sureal and cant believe i have to wait 18 months to wear it!!
I tried on others to make sure I wasnt being impulsive but the it really was "The One"

Just keeping my eyes peeled for other bargains now, bridesmaid dresses etc!! every penny counts etc!!
Loving everyones ideas for music, dont have a clue myself, not sure if Im doing the 1st dance thing it really doesnt reflect us as a couple, but not sure whether I should do it to keep other people happy!!

    Speak soon xx
  • awww fantastic!!! thats good you got the repair cost thrown in :) congrats on your dress!!

and if you dont want to do the first dance you dont have to....i say dont do anything your uncomfortable with!! its YOUR day, you do it YOUR way....not how people think it should be :)

we are having the first dance, just because my OH doesnt ever have the chance to get up dancing (we rarely go out, and when we do hes looking after the kids! LOL) so its a nice chance for us both to have a dance together :)

though i could do with your opinion......
    we wanted westlife - unbreakable
if you listen to the words its very fitting!! BUT its associated with funerals etc due to the video. yet the words on their own tell a different story! LOL

  • Have finally booked! Roll on Sept 15th 2012 ! I have sorted photographer and made lots of enquiries for car / band etc didnt quite realise how much a band would be! If anyone lives in the midlands i have found this company which hire things at a really reasonable rate SUJO dream weddings.

I think im going to wait until around sept/oct to start looking at dresses!

    xx
  • Morning ladies! Sorry I haven't been around much lately - been busy with other things, none wedding-related though! My SIL2B has just got engaged which is fantastic - she'll be getting married before us though so I am now paranoid that if any of her ideas are similar to mine everyone will think I copied her!!!

I'm basically no further along, although I am now champing at the bit to confirm our day venue - H2B wants to confirm that our provisional evening venue is OK logistically (lots to organise if we go for that one!) but I think that, as we're in a large city with loads of surrounding villages within a short drive away, we shouldn't have too much difficulty finding a space for the evening. I want to just get SOMETHING finalised, and if we're not careful we'll lose our date!!

Jemma, that's fantastic that you have agreed on a price for your dress, you must be so excited! :T And as for music, we haven't started thinking about it either yet, and if you don't want a first dance, don't have one!

Nuttymummy, I wouldn't worry too much about what associations your song might have - if the lyrics fit and you love it then go for it! I doubt that enough people will know the video or have previously heard it at a funeral for anyone to think anything other than 'aaaah!'

Amy, yay for confirming your date!! The '(TBC)' has now been removed from the first post :j

How is everyone else getting along?

:heart::heart: Marrying my lovely man on 1st September 2012 :heart::heart:

The right to express an opinion does not override the responsibility to show respect. :)
  • yay for choosing a date!!! and congrats on getting the photographer too :)

Oh No! Id be just the same if someone was getting married before me and think we were copying etc....dont tell her any of your plans and hopefully she will come up with different ones of her own!! I know it will be hard not telling everyone exciting plans...but youll feel better for it afterwards when her wedding turns out nothing like yours :)
I know just what you mean aswell with not having anything sorted....im restless every single day thinking of ways i can sort more things out!! so you must be doubly as bad without having your venue yet!
youll feel better once something is booked and then you can focus on other areas.

thanks for your thoughts on my first dance song...nice to know someone is reading my ramblings and whining LOL
Me and my OH really like the words etc so will probably go for that. Though we have 'our' song (which im sure you lot do too!) but doesnt fit for a first dance! Ours is Lionel Richie - Destiny, someone chose it on a jukebox (when wed only been dating a few weeks) in the pub, its something i had heard but wasnt all that familiar with.....and i had forgotten how good it was, OH sat next to me held my hand and said the same, we were both their dancing away on the chair and that was that, it became our song LOL
Too fast i think though for a first dance!

as for me...not done much either!! Ive made a 'wedding box' to put all the wedding things in so i dont lose them! so far there are the sheets of tissue paper for the pom pom decs, giraffe cufflinks, elephant cufflinks and my elephant paper punch for the invites. Im hoping to add a pair of shoes to that box by the end of the week!
As Ill be walking round the zoo most of the day i thought id buy a pair of comfy shoes to change into.....and opted for these LOL
took a gamble though as they only had one pair left....in purple...but size 2.5 (im a 3) ...but they were only £20 so i snapped them up, Just waiting for them to arrive so i can slip my foot into it cinderella style :) LOL
    fingers crossed they fit!

    Hi everyone!

amycm123 - Congrats on getting the date set. : ) You seem to be on a roll!

Hey Tracey, I think you should use Destiny if that is your song and you both love it. Its fitting aswell, just a bit faster than the "slow dance" songs. Seen some crazy first dances on you tube, think the link is somewhere on the wedding forums! There was one where the couple were dancing to a lovely slow song, then all of a sudden they started a choreographed dance to Thriller or something! Another was the Dirty Dancing dance - they had some b***s to do that! Some of the guests were in on it too!
