hmmmm hard to say...if i was making a sponge cake, i bake it roughly 3-4 days before the wedding....no earlier so its nice and fresh......but marks and spencers will probably be like tesco's/asda.....pumped full of E numbers with a long shelf life so they probably have them printed on the box when they need using by. but as for fruit cake...lasts MONTHS!! mine last 12 months just shrink wrapped.
If you wanted a choice you could have the bottom tier fruit (as its the heaviest) and the sponge on the top:dance:

joanne, i love the sweets idea.....i think you should have a cake like this!:
LOL im making one similar in august, but a little more simplified!! cant wait, ill get to eat the left over sweets ha ha xx
So cute I love it!!
If anyone is thinking about a city break for a honeymoon the sooner you book the flights the better, For example I had three nights in Rimini (italian Coast) for £120.00 pp in July the flights were only £50.00 and stayed in a little 3 star guest house perfect for post wedding hassle!!
All you ladies seem so creative when it comes to cakes etc!! would anyone have any suggestions of what desserts to have for an evening party?
Omg tried on dress again today and fits like a glove wonder is its a sign!! will cost approx £150.00 to repair, so should I negotiate further?? its been taken down from £2400 to £1000
P.s love this board I think the work girls are getting sick of my planning!! lol :A0 -
Evenin' ladies! Blimey, I've missed a lot of chatting since I was last here...
You all sound like you're getting on well with things - love the cake designs, especially Tracey's one with the flower. I reckon just go for the design you like best, rather than worry about whether it's too common a design in the eyes of guests or venue staff. We'll go for something fairly traditional, partly because a very unusual design would look just plain weird sat on the venue's very ornate Victorian-inspired cake stand, in a very Victorian room, and also because it will be homemade and we have too much else to think about!
I haven't done much lately, as I'm up to my eyes in other stuff at the mo. So I've delegated a few fact-finding missions to H2B, like additional equipment hire and other costs if we go for the evening venue we want. Unfortunately we have had a minor disaster as our laptop has died on us, possibly losing all the information and pictures we had saved on it! Still, we are still near the beginning of planning so we haven't lost anything crucial, but it's REALLY ANNOYING!!! I had some gorgeous designs savedWe might be able to salvage some information depending on how dead the laptop turns out to be.
Yes, thats exactly right! I tend to babble when im thinking about something and dont make sense in what im trying to say! Sorry! But you have interpretted my babble very well! ha
LOL! Me too - see my previous posts
I now can't see your original question as it's on a previous page so will have to remind myself of it before posting a reply - back in a mo...Marrying my lovely man on 1st September 2012

I suppose will just need to have a nose in Markies and see. Good old E numbers ; )
Hmm good tip re booking the flights etc. Jemma might make that something we do in the next few weeks. Not booking but at least going in and getting an idea of prices etc. Feel it's too many movements to go ahead and book myself would rather use an agent I think. Re pudding what you and OH favourite desserts! That's a place to start it's your day! The dress fitting like a glove is a good sign and it does sound like a bargain...why not be cheeky and ask if you can get it for £1000 including alterations and then move to meet them in the middle if need be? If you don't ask you don't get!
Sapphire that's crap about your laptop...they do pick their moments. Hopefully a nice computer man will save your pretty pictures for you. I know what you mean re it's not end of the world but it's just frustrating when you've started up building up a bank of pictures and ideas! Will cross my fingers it gets sorted out.

Question....! Been thinking about this since Sun when went to see the venue we liked. If we got married at Church late afternoon, and the evening do doesnt start till 7 ish, what do you do with your guests?! What are you all doing in between ceremony and reception/evening time? My friends wedding with the Park photos and simple reception seemed to run quite smoothly and everyone enjoyed themselves. But cant help thinking that the guests are going to be fed up! We're not having a sit down reception, but thought of the afternoon tea thingy which might keep them quiet for a bit!
I know ill probably change my mind a 1000 times before we decide on a place, and probably should look elsewhere aswell. But at the moment, I like two options for the wedding. Either, get married in Church (its lovely and know the vicar), then have photos there, in the grounds they have a church Hall, which I have been thinking to rent for a couple of hours after the ceremony, have the Bucks Fizz reception in there (!) and the afternoon tea, sandwiches etc. They have a small bar in there aswell, so could have them run that for a couple of hours. (Or even, if they allow, we could bring a load of beverages ourselves...) And then, onto the venue for the evening do to start with Buffet later......
Or, we could just do it all at the venue, with or without the wedding there, but thinking it would be a long day in just one place for everyone....has this all made sense?!
Doing the Afternoon Tea thingy at the Church Hall would work out so much cheaper aswell, it only costs £67 to hire the hall for the day, Bucks Fizz is only about £3 per bottle, so may only cost 75p ish per person rather than the £4.95 per person they are charging at the venue, My Gran recently did a spread (she used to do catering) for over 100 people and only cost her about £70, but not looking to do all the stuff she did anyway, its only a light snack until evening, scones sandwiches etc, so may not even cost that. Aaaargggh, ive no idea! I dont know why Im stressing now, cant stop thinking about it, its another 18 months away!!!
OK, so that was a long mo...!
Natalie, I don't think that you need to worry about guests being bored if you hold the whole thing in one place - if you're thinking of having a fairly late ceremony then you won't have that long a time to fill till the evening reception starts anyway. People will be quite happy with a drink in their hand and people to talk to for a couple of hours at least! TBH, whether you use the church hall or go straight to the venue the actual layout of the day will be much the same. Will the venue allow 'outside food' at all? ie, could your gran do some food at whichever place you have the afternoon reception?
It will probably come down to simply weighing up what you can and can't have at each place (eg food, nice location for photos, cheaper drinks), and which one you most want to spend the afternoon in. You don't need to entertain people - the afternoon reception is for people to have a relaxed chat, meet and congratulate you, and to allow time for the photos. That'll happen in either location!
Thanks Joanne! H2B has taken the laptop into work today as one of his colleagues has offered to take a look at it. It's doubly annoying as the previous hard drive crashed about 18 months ago and we only got round to replacing it a few months ago. Stoopid technology.....

do you mean little individual desserts? mini donuts always go down well with dips LOL little cupcakes, and mallow cakes look cute on tea stands, little eclairs etc, nothing too messy
tell the dress woman you had spoken to the dressmaker and she said its going to cost £200 to repair and if she would consider knocking that price of the dress to compensate.....sounds like you really love that dress, and if you dont try to knock it down you probably wont be thinking about anything else for a long time! good luck xxWhite_Sapphire wrote: »You all sound like you're getting on well with things - love the cake designs, especially Tracey's one with the flower. thanksi know just what you mean, ours is going to look odd as the manor is all dark panelled wood inside...quite 'traditional' looking.
If your going for traditional like flowers/roses etc, you can buy ready made sugar rose sprays to add to the cake, though if im being honest silk/plastic flowers will probably be much cheaper. insert them into the cake whilst the icing is still soft so u prevent cracks
o no nightmare!!! though if its just died your hardrive might be ok and you might be able to pull alot of the data off it....even if it means taking it to pieces just for a chip!joanneinwonderland wrote: »I suppose will just need to have a nose in Markies and see. Good old E numbers ; )lol E numbers...u gotta love em, i eat them all the time PMSL if you want to stack them like in the pic i showed you, youll need supports to stop them from sinking into each other.....cheap tip.....use drinking straws, they should hold up fine if its sponge cake!! x
well nothing much to report on the wedding stuff here.....apart from i see the photographer tuesday....mega excited!! if all goes well ill be paying my depositx

Hi All,
Please can I join this topic, as i'm now a September 2012 bride:j
My OH has finally decided it's time to make an honest woman of me & we have decided that we are going to get married at St Paul's Bay in Lindos Rhodes. We are working with a local wedding planning company out there & yesterday they confirmed that our wedding is booked for 10th September 2012:D I'm so excited. We have worked out what we can afford & hopefully we can pay for everything that I want.
Is it too early to start trying on wedding dresses:rotfl:No idea of the type of dress as it will be very hot, so thinking not a traditional dress but I want to look like a bride. I want my OH to have some sort of white/cream suit with a waistecoat rather than jacket I think, mybe linen but it does crease so much is the suitcase:think:
Anyway love reading what every one is doing, roll on Sept 2012.Married the man of my dreams - 10th September 2012, St Paul's Bay Lindos :jIt was amazing.0 -
whats your dress budget fawny?
these are designed for beach weddings
http://www.maggiesottero.com/collection.aspx?line=dI am not bossy I just have better ideas:p0 -
The pattern is this one: http://bridalcoveredbuttons.co.uk/FishTailDressPatterns.aspx with the sweetheart neckline. But I'm adapting it a bit, it's going to be fitted down to just under my bum and then have a load of layers bunched up, a bit like this: http://www.maggiesottero.com/dress.aspx?page=21&style=A3135 and then it's going to have one strap of turquoise flowers going diagonally to the back of the opposite side. Lots of work, but it's going to be worth it.
Oops, I didn't quote the original question about the pattern, I think it was White_Sapphire that asked.Getting married 02.08.14
Wins for the wedding: membership for a 'wedsite' and app, £35 gift voucher for party supplies shop, £50 worth of hand painted signs, 1kg of heart shaped marshmallows :money:0
