Thanks for advice ladies going to take an objective look tommorow, think with head not heart!!
Must say getting rather jealous of all you venue hunting etc!! as mine is away I am very limited what I can do this end!!
But will be looking for a venue for a party! so will be reading all of your tips!!
What are people doing for a wedding list? seen a fab one with House of Fraser or is it better to ask for a "Donation"
xx0 -
hmmmm havent even thought about wedding lists.....we already live together etc, so dont need anything....we could do with asking for money really to re-coup some of the money weve paid out ha ha.
It will be a total no obligation thing though....im hoping to have a box at the wedding where people can post their donations, cards n gifts in, and write a list on the side of suggested donations and what they will buy....so instead of people thinking they are paying £5 for nothing, we can write on...a £5 donation will get us a drink on the honeymoon (which we still arent having as of yet! but you get the idea!)
£20 donation will buy us a meal for two etc etc..so they know their money is being put to good use rather than just asking for money.
im going to look up a phrase or poem to send with the invites kindly asking for the gifts to be of money....but worded very nicely LOL
has anyone else thought about what they are doing with the wedding list things too?

Option 1:
Get married in church, then have an afternoon reception in the church hall, before going on to the evening venue
Option 2:
Have afternoon reception at venue (possibly ceremony there as well, but that's not so much part of the issue) followed by evening do there as well.
Potential issue being that guests may be bored between the ceremony and evening do.
Have I got that right? Sorry if I'm being dim, my brain is rebelling against me at the mo!!

Yes, thats exactly right! I tend to babble when im thinking about something and dont make sense in what im trying to say! Sorry! But you have interpretted my babble very well! ha
Yes, Tracey, sounds like what I wanted really, people just mingling and having a drink and hopefully out in the sun!
Jemma - I agree with the others in saying just be very careful, there seems to a few rips that youve mentioned, would hate you to have to get loads of it repaired and end up costing you a fortune. Dont want to put you off, but personally, I wouldnt want to spend £1000 on a dress that needs repairing. But if its the one you really want, and the repair quotes sound good, haggle haggle haggle with the shop lady to get a further reduction in price!!! :eek:0 -
my tissue paper arrived LOL
Im making something like these for the wedding....CHEAP decoration or what!! LOL im hoping (if its sunny) i can hang them from the parasols outside
but large purple ones, and slightly smaller green and orange ones
saving isnt going very well...its my mums 60th birthday today so she needs something special
and i had 2 neices or nephews being born this year too...and they wont be cheap LOL

Oooh love those Tracey! How will you make them?
I went to an auction yesterday with a couple of friends, weve never been to one before, fancied a girlie day, so we booked it of and ventured to York Auctions! Was fab, we loved it, and will be going again. I did get a lovely tea set aswell, for £3.47! (including the tax and premium) so thats the start of my afternoon tea selection!0 -
wow great price on the tea set!!
I used to work at an auctions (all stuff from costco's lost postal items, bailiff stuff etc)
we sold ALLSORTS and i was always buying things, i couldnt help myself LOL...doesnt run anymore though which is a shame coz it was fun!
are u getting lots of mismatch tea sets n things....i love those types of weddings
i saw a wedding cake on the internet yesterday, was really cute! on the top it had a mini tea set and cake stand, and bunting!!
this one wasnt it...but its something slightly similar
i still havent decided what to do about my cake yet :S
the tissue pom poms look pretty simple to make really....u just fold a rectangle piece of tissue paper (approx 10 sheets together) and fold them 'accordion' style.....tie in the middle with wire/or just staple it. cut the ends into a rounded or pointed shape, and then pull each piece up one by one till it makes a pom pomshould be an inexpensive, but effective decoration

Mmmmm love that cake! Its gorgeous! Ive no idea either, not decided on the cake, the photographer, the the dress, the colours - or anyhting yet! hahahaha Will all come together.
Ooooh you will have to show us your pics of decs when you start doing them.
Are you getting married in the house in the grounds of Chester Zoo? Just remembered about the house, aas we went for tea in there last year and saw a notice somewhere about getting married in there.0 -
yeah its oakfield manor, they have a choice of two rooms to get married in...and the 'tea room' part where you probably were, gets transformed into a disco/party area.
wont be making the decs till about 2 days before the wedding, i you lay them on things for too long the bottom loses its 'puff' ha ha, so going to make them all up, put them in a box ready to go, and then when we take them to the venue the night before ill give them a quick spruce up
yeah havent decided on a cake......i wanted to stick with our elephant/giraffe theme....but ive decided against a jungle/safari cake....due to nearly everyone getting married there has one, thinking they have a unique cake. So i want to be a little different....trouble is i cant think of anything!
was going to have a simple designed cake (as i havent got time to make anything else!) just covered in white with purple n pale green ribbon....alot like this:
and then finding a white topper of either elephant or giraffes that we can keep as an ornament afterwards as a permanent reminder
but then i suppose i have a pretty 'normal' cake to most people...but will be 'different' to the zoo staff as it isnt colourful and full of animals LOL
i did find this cute little birthday cake though....very simple design and very cute pastel colours.....could make this in a few tiers and tone the colours right down::dance:
