  • Debbie, if you want to read up on Humanism have a look at http://www.humanism.org.uk I've been having a look at it myself as we are also having a Humanist ceremony.

Re cash bar, we need to know this one too! Whoever finds out first will have to let the other one know :D

vh122, welcome to our thread! Good luck with your venue search, let us know how it goes.

jemmaali - Has the owner given you a price/deal yet? Id probably ask her if not, what her best price is. Tell her you will go away and think about, find out how much it will be restore it to its gorgeous self, and then come back here to and let us know before you go back to her! If the price is too high, or even if its not, go back and explain that its going to cost to get it fixed etc and can she take any more off the price to compensate that.....

Question....! Been thinking about this since Sun when went to see the venue we liked. If we got married at Church late afternoon, and the evening do doesnt start till 7 ish, what do you do with your guests?! What are you all doing in between ceremony and reception/evening time? My friends wedding with the Park photos and simple reception seemed to run quite smoothly and everyone enjoyed themselves. But cant help thinking that the guests are going to be fed up! We're not having a sit down reception, but thought of the afternoon tea thingy which might keep them quiet for a bit!

I know ill probably change my mind a 1000 times before we decide on a place, and probably should look elsewhere aswell. But at the moment, I like two options for the wedding. Either, get married in Church (its lovely and know the vicar), then have photos there, in the grounds they have a church Hall, which I have been thinking to rent for a couple of hours after the ceremony, have the Bucks Fizz reception in there (!) and the afternoon tea, sandwiches etc. They have a small bar in there aswell, so could have them run that for a couple of hours. (Or even, if they allow, we could bring a load of beverages ourselves...) And then, onto the venue for the evening do to start with Buffet later......

Or, we could just do it all at the venue, with or without the wedding there, but thinking it would be a long day in just one place for everyone....has this all made sense?!

Doing the Afternoon Tea thingy at the Church Hall would work out so much cheaper aswell, it only costs £67 to hire the hall for the day, Bucks Fizz is only about £3 per bottle, so may only cost 75p ish per person rather than the £4.95 per person they are charging at the venue, My Gran recently did a spread (she used to do catering) for over 100 people and only cost her about £70, but not looking to do all the stuff she did anyway, its only a light snack until evening, scones sandwiches etc, so may not even cost that. Aaaargggh, ive no idea! I dont know why Im stressing now, cant stop thinking about it, its another 18 months away!!!

OK, just so that I've got it straight in my head:
    Option 1:
Get married in church, then have an afternoon reception in the church hall, before going on to the evening venue
    Option 2:
Have afternoon reception at venue (possibly ceremony there as well, but that's not so much part of the issue) followed by evening do there as well.

Potential issue being that guests may be bored between the ceremony and evening do.

Have I got that right? Sorry if I'm being dim, my brain is rebelling against me at the mo!!

    Thanks Natc
Went and seen it today still LOVED it said she would do it for £1000.00 a few more rips in the lace than I would like but the seamstress will give me a quote tommorow
Im going in on Thursday to check the size again as it could only be taken in and not out!! (Note to self no more cakes!!)
Anyway its a massive saving but still dont know if its too much to spend!!
  • Hi all, we have just set the date for our Sept 2012 wedding, the 8th.
I'm super excited. We went to the venue last night and confirmed some stuff and the wedding planner really put me at ease. Still waiting for the pattern for my dress and then I can set into sewing my life away for the next year and a half!!

Wins for the wedding: membership for a 'wedsite' and app, £35 gift voucher for party supplies shop, £50 worth of hand painted signs, 1kg of heart shaped marshmallows :money:
  • hi girls!

oo exciting planning going on whilst ive been away!

wow she seems to have knocked LOADS of money of that dress!! as far as i can gather dressmakers can charge quite alot for fixing bits (iread on an ebay listing that it costs £50 just to repair ONE loop on the back of the dress (where u tie it up) etc. so make sure you have a good look at the dressmakers quote before deciding :)

we are getting married all in one place, all day...but obviously as its a zoo and theres so much happening i dont think the guests will get bored.
like u said have a little bar...everyone loves to sit around n drink! and if its sunny (which it will be for all our weddings!) then they can sit out in the sun!

welcome the_insider, another making their own wedding dress in our little group...you two ladies are very talented!!

    Welcome and congratulations! :j

Great to see another sewing bride! Any chance of a sneak peek at your dress pattern pretty please? :D I've got my pattern and practice fabric at my parents' house, waiting for me to go and get started sometime in the next couple of months, although ideally I'd like to shift a few pounds first. I'll post regular progress reports (with all the naughty words removed ;)) on this thread, unless it's going REALLY badly, in which case I may be strangely silent...

Good luck with the planning and sewing, we're always around if you need anything :)

That is a fantastic reduction, it has to be said, although as nuttymummy rightly says you'll need to factor in the cost of repairs and alterations. And it is still a lot of money, obviously, so only you will know if you can realistically budget for it (is it worth cutting back on other things?). Sorry, no help whatsoever am I!!! :o
