So glad we have this thread :jLovely people and lots of help already!

Tracey, I think you should make us all samples of your cakes and send them to us all, just so we know what we should look for!!!! lol :D

EDIT: - Ooooh White_Sapphire forgot tosay, im marrying in West Yorkshire - Somewhere!
  • lol, theyd just arrive as crumbs n cream :) LOL

i had a chat with adam last night about the size of our budget and if we should take a look at cutting back everywhere (which i knew he'd be up for coz hes a Taurus and hates spending! LOL) so was waiting for him to jump at the chance....but instead he was quiet for a minute, and then said, no - its our day, we will do exactly what we want no matter what everyone else thinks.
weve had abit of a ribbing over getting married in a Zoo, which has inturn made Adam abit protective, he said to me that if people dont like it, then they dont get an invite LOL he just wants us to enjoy ourselves with people who want to be there :)

    Thanks Jemma!

I may well be picking your brains for Honeymoon ideas at some point.

Actually, come to think of it, it would be fab if you could let us know what places are good to travel to in September in terms of best weather, cost etc. Is there any way you could post a list for us? Doesn't have to be straight away, but maybe in the next few months or so when you have some spare time! It's really difficult to know where to look, and when I've looked online I've sometimes had conflicting information so I'm a little bit confused!!

    Thanks!

    Hey Ladies / Brides

Im more than happy to give out advice, here is some general info if you want more detailed info please feel free to DM me and I can give you more detail

For September - Weather wise Europe is the best - (Sometimes the cheapest)
A lot of people disregard the Med for a honeymoon but there are some amazing places on offer. Here are my top three

Italy (Of course) - From short city breaks such as Venice or Rome to beach style holidays in the Neapolitan Riviera, Sicily and Sardinia

Greece - Aviod the mass market places and head towards the more traditional islands of Santorini and Skiathos - Very Beautiful

Croatia - Again beautiful scenary and plenty of excursions on offer

These places are under 4 hours flight times so ideal if you have children etc

The Caribbean - Is in Hurricane season put people still travel but expect short bursts of rain and some overcast days

The Indian Ocean - Same as above really

A suprise bargain this time of year (as yes we all like a bargain!!)
Is the middle east resorts of Dubai and Abu Dhabi - Ive done both and are truely stunning places, weather wise very hot!! - NO RAIN - 5 star luxury and much cheaper in Spet than any other time

    An example - 7 nights 5* luxury - Approx - £650.00pp

Its very difficult as people have so many different budgets, I am delaying my honeymoon slightly and doing the Carribbean in Nov/Dec

Hope this helps - If you want to give me your individual budgets I could give some more suggestions - :o
  • lol yeah nat i understand what u said, i have the exact same effect in confusing people so we must be on the same level LOL

    Thanks Nat :)

thanks for all that jemma, i dont have a budget for one really as we wernt thinking of going on one! but if i can find a really cheap one id go :)

I know, I'm so proud of our little thread, it's like our little support group! :T

And your location has been added, Natalie! I have a lot of family in Yorkshire (my Dad's from there), and love going to visit - it's a gorgeous part of the country.

PMSL, thanks for reading my blog Fiona :) Its nice to know im not writing for nothing!!
lol no, he got sent to bed...i had gravy n leeks splashed up my wall from his sunday roast too that i didnt notice till the veg lasagne incident! LOL

Ive made on gluten free cake before, and she gave me the name of a gluten free flour which i got from tesco. I never get to taste the cakes obviously, but she was thrilled with it! The only think i can think of, is if you dont use flour it isnt going to rise very much? to say im a baker i rarely get asked for things like that so havent tested them out. mmm im a fan of lemon cake.....the only thing that smells better than a cake baking, is a lemon cake baking :) yummy!!
I havent had any for a LONG time though as since having my daughter i suddenly cant have milk, cream, certain cheeses, butter etc, and my own cakes give me stomach ache LOL if i buy cheap cakes pumped with E numbers im not too bad though.....mostly because they use powder cake mix, whereas i make all mine from scratch and cant have the margarine!

but if you need help with tiering them, covering them etc, i can help with that LOL

Thanks hun! I know that a cake without flour won't rise, so it might be a case of making two and sandwiching them together to get the right height. Some experimentation ahead, methinks!

Jemma, you are a complete star! Thank you for that info on destinations x

  • OK, so I reeeaaally don't need to be looking into stuff like this yet as there are still lots of 'big things' to organise, like finalising the budget and parental contributions, confirming the evening venue, finding a celebrant - you know, trivial stuff ;)

BUT, I just can't help looking for pretty things whenever I have a spare moment, or when putting off doing things I really should be doing :o I've been thinking of doing my own hair - I'm definitely doing my own make up and the cost of bridal updos is INSANE  But, the kind of style I wanted I thought would be too complicated so I was considering trying to find someone, preferably who wouldn't charge 100 quid, just to be sure it would be right. I've now found this wonderful little step-by-step instruction and it's just what I was looking for!:j Except that the hairdo sort of goes in the wrong direction, IYSWIM - I was thinking of something more along the lines of this:
    images?q=tbn:ANd9GcR9VS4pcDKYVVTlK_wRJnl90ITVG5ghbyhrAJOV0RFRuS3fXy4Y

so I think I should be able to do the hairdo horizontally rather than vertically, so it goes across the nape of my neck instead of down the back of my head. Make sense??? :p

Anyone else find themselves planning the little bits before the big ones are organised, just cos it's more fun???

OMG!!!!!!!! I dont believe it! I was looking yesterday at hair do's (Im also looking at the smaller things rather than the bigger (-actually looking for a venue etc!!!) and I came across this very picture, and thought id like something like that!!!! BIZARE! I love it, its lovley.
  • It's gorgeous, isn't it? I wanted something retro-inspired but without looking like I was off to a costume party or murder mystery evening!! Mine won't look quite like that - I won't do the finger waves, and I want a hair vine rather than clips, but I'm looking forward to practising my 'look', make-up included :D I won't start just yet though, cos knowing me if I've got too long to do something I start obsessing! As nineteen months is a little too early for DIY hair trials I must force myself to put the picture away until next summer. And to not buy the hair extension clips that I found on ebay this afternoon just yet. :o

How's the venue search going natc?

LOL I make two cakes and sandwich them now to make a birthday cake, you might need 4-6 LOL :rotfl:

    your joking...BUY IT!!! LOL

Its not too early at all :) I have folders saved on my comp (miss organized!) under 'purple wedding' I have a folder for hair do-s, a folder for cakes, another for bouquet ideas, another for general purple wedding stuff etc.....I must be well sad LOL

ive also decided on a hair style....just going for a very simple down-do. im terrible with updos, i know for a fact mine would just fall down or something LOL
having a slight curl/wave to it, and i have long dark hair, so something like this:

    images?q=tbn:ANd9GcQayjAJeBtppisntE7MeI0S8JXecwRzVIGJFoNKgIBLq7I9BwahmA

im loving people posting piccies :) i love looking at them!

im DYING to buy things so Id deffo buy your clip! It will be cheaper this year than next year :)

i ALMOST bought my wedding shoes today (well ONE of my pairs)
Im getting married in purple heels...then walking round the zoo in purple sneakers LMAO...so i almost bought my sneakers at a bargain price of £9.99!!

my giraffe cufflinks arrived this morning...SUPER CUTE!! love them :)

anyone else been drooling over wedding things you want to buy?
