Ahhh Fiona I'm glad things worked out :) mums eh?!

Haha they're only the things leftover from March & to do in April... There are still pretty packed lists for May, June, July & August - the "essentials" may be sorted but that's just rings, venue & outfits - all the pretty stuff that actually makes the wedding is yet to do :rotfl:

My invitation material samples have arrived and I'm really chuffed with how the mock-ups look, although I need to try and source a different ribbon & check I can print on the paper using our home printer. Any ideas about sticking organza ribbon to card? I used double sided tape for the mockups but you can see it :( I'll try and post a picture later - I'm not sure how to do it from my iPad.

    Hello Ladies,

Very spooky Roz & Nene choosing the same wedding date & same centre pieces, you both must have wonderful tastes:D

Babyb06 - any news on the dress yet? Hope you have found something.

Fiona - So glad your Mum got it all wrong & everything is ok for you:j Seeing everyone putting their to do lists on has made me think I need to do one. I know we don't have much to sort now as most has already been done & wedding planner is organising it all but I do still have things to do, although OH seems to think we don't:shocked:

Been quiet naughty this weekend, lots of drinking, a meal out on Sat night & then we are having a chinese takeaway tonight to finish the holiday weekend off:o Must get weighted tomorrow morning, I might be eating nothing but soup for the rest of the week, as have another dress fitting on Sat. Hopefully my Mum will be able to get some pics for us:D

    Hope everyone is ok.

    Hello ladies!

Sorry for being away again for aaaggeess! And thanks to Fawny, Debbie and Roz for asking about my dress. Ive just been reading through the thread from where i last lurked and came accross your posts. Unfortunaley, still not got my dress :eek::( This is the reason I havent been on in a while, I really didnt want to bring my depressing mood on to such a lovely thread! So though I would stay away for a while unitl I sort out my dress....what a silly thing to do, i need you guys!

I literally have felt like I have been in a black hole recently. Ive cried a few times over last few weeks, just thinking im never going to be ready for 22nd Sept!

I have now been to 17 dress shops, some of which I have been to more than once. I have a specific style of dress I want, it has to be A Line, straight down fabric (thats what I call it, not very technical but what i mean is no frilly bits!!), sweetheart neckline (some dress shops say they can make a neckline sweetheart and some say its not possible, even when ive asked about the exact same dress...which makes me concerned about the abilities of the shop which say they cant do it...) I have seriously considered getting my dress made, but feel a little scared about it, not knowng what its going to be like until its ready, although in a way I think its great as I will have a big input into my dress.

I have maybe 2 more shops I am going to try next weekend, if i cant find one there, then I must just come to the conclusion that Im not going to find a dress in a shop!

I have already been to a dressmakers in York and although the lady there was lovley and I could see her little workshops in the back with someone working away on a machine(i thought that was so sweet!), i dont really feel she was very forthcoming with information. I would even have to go out and buy my own material, which I have done before as I do have a sewing machine at home, but its a bit scary when it is for your wedding dress! I expected that the dressmaker would get everything? i maybe wrong. My OH came with me to see her and he thought she was great, maybe i was looking for faults?!! I have a couple of dressmakers locally too I can see aswell though.

Because we decided to leave everything else, and I mean everything else, until I have found my dress (due to every weekend being consumed with visiting wedding dress shops!) the list of things to do is the same as a year ago! EEEKKK  we may aswell have decided to get married last month, leaving only 6 months to get everything done. We havent done anything since booking venue and church. I am such a wally!

I am going to post my list of things to do to see what you all think, if its possible to get sorted!

    Hi Natc,

Sorry to hear you are still having a hard time regarding your dress:( don't say away thought it helps to write how you feel. I see you say you have been to somewhere in York. Where abouts do you live? PM me if you don't want to say, it's just that my dressmaker is in West Yorks as thats where i'm from orignally. She is in Sherburn & is brilliant, but don't know if thats anywhere near you & obviously not sure of her work schedule but can pass you her details if you were anywhere near there.

Back with my To Do List... OH and I have been through it all this morning, and I wonder if anyone would be so kind to have a look and see if there is anything we should be concentrating on and if this is actually realistic! Sorry for the FULL list from now to wedding, but really do feel like i need the help! LOL Thank you :D

    Invitations – Get ideas
Guest list – OH and I going through again to confirm

Church – Confirm date and time, we need to decide on the time yet...we were thinking about 1.30PM, photos afterwards takes to about 3PM, everyone back to venue for drinks (we were thinking of Bucks Fizz reception, but drinks are like pub prices at venue and most weddings ive been to dont provide drinks, and I dont mind, is this reasonable?), us back to venue for more photos, Afternoon Tea about 4PM with speeches as eating, taking to about 5.30, then everyone to mingle until party starts at 7.30, pie and peas etc served around 8.30-9pm....does this sound OK? What is everyone elses order of the day? a couple of hours in between seems a lot...? We were thinking of having some kind of entertainment in between, weve seen laser pigeon shooting, eco friendly and fun! But added entertainment costs we had not budgeted for.

Thanks Fawny. :D I really should not stay away, feel better already for my massive posts!!! I feel I cant talk to anyone really as I dont want to bog down friends and family with my troubles and I know that brides think that their wedding is the absolute most important up and coming event in the world, and it is, to us, but to friends and family it might not be! :o

Im from Dewsbury West Yorkshire so Sherburn isnt far, I was looking on the net the other night for dressmaker in Yorkshire and one in Sherburn came up, is it Ladies Day?

How have you found the process of having a dress made? And out of interest, what made you want to have one made? I quite like the idea of it, made especially for you, as you wanted, and made in England by local people, its great! But scary!

    Hi Natc,

Yes thats them, Karen & Debroah they are sisters & they both make dressess, both very good:j They used to have a shop in Pontefract which is where I am from originally & my parents still live which is why it's no problem for me to go to them. They now have 2 workshops in the family home in Sherburn & everything is done from there. It turns out a few people we know have had their dresses made by them but didn't know at the time, it's only since I've said who is making it people have said. When I have been going for my fittings etc there has been several dresses dotted about in the rooms & they have all been beautiful. I've loved the process, at the start I gave them a call to see if they could help & we just had a chat on the phone & they I arranged to go see Karen just for a chat no pressure to sign up or anything. I then contacted them again back in December & they made my first appointment for Jan to have my measurements done & discuss my design. I knew the type of dress I wanted a bit like you so I took photos & we went through them. I also beleive they will design things from your ideas. I went back at the beginning of March & the bodice was more or less done which I tried & then i'm back on Sat so not sure what stage we will be at. Hopefully will get some pics so I can post them.

I've always liked the though of having one made to measure so it fits better & because we are getting married abroad I wanted a lighter destination dress. I found that if any of the bridal shops had any destination dresses at all it was only one or two. Most of the shops were very unhelpful & even if they stocked a range would not order them in & did not seem to understand that a normal dress would just be far to hot in Lindos:eek: One of my Mum's friends suggested giving Ladies Day a ring as their daughter had hers made with them & Karen the one who is making mine actually got married abroad so fully understands what I need:D Like you say I'm helping a local business too. My dress is very much like the Maggie Sottero JD1425 & JD1426. Anyway I think i've gone on enough now, best of luck it might be worth a phone call to them if nothing else.
