hi everyone, glad everythings coming together with all your wedding planning.

unfortunately im no longer getting married in september :( it has now been brought forward to 26th may!! and i have so much to do now, but we'll get there :) had to bring it forward due to finding out im pregnant! very big shock but we've managed to get the same church, village hall and photographer as before, just need to find another car. At least i havn't got my dress yet :)

Congratulations Toni! We will miss you from this thread, please make sure you stick around! :D

    Definitely.

I really don't know what's wrong with me at the minute though, I've felt really unsettled and down recently and OH keeps walking into rooms to find me in tears for no apparent reason :o And I'm getting cross at the tiniest things - like at the fayre yesterday MIL2B asked about how much wedding albums from our photographer are because "they don't do digital", and whilst I know it's a reasonable question and I answered it, something inside me got really cross  Then I had a bath in the evening to try & relax me and decided to use a Bath Bomb I'd got for Xmas, but it made the water really oily and was like bathing in grease so I had to have a shower to wash the bath off me, and was in tears about it... OH is taking me out for some tea & retail therapy tonight to try and get me back on track, I hate feeling like this :(

Hugs to you Roz! You sound very stressed out; perhaps take a week or so off wedding planning and just recharge your batteries a bit? Definitely keep using this thread as a sounding board whenever you need to rant about annoying relatives; it helps! Have a lovely relaxing evening's shopping tonight, and I hope you feel better soon.

Married the man of my dreams - 10th September 2012, St Paul's Bay Lindos :jIt was amazing.

  • :o sorry avent been around for aes! looks like you have all been very busy and have lots of stuff organized! I however have just started back with the planin and I am stressin out some what (not helped by 3 stroppy children on holidays who would perfer to be at school:rotfl:)

Just wanted to ask a quick question as to kids prices on food at venues before I contact my venue. We have just had our quote and it is down as 62 afternoon teas at £13.95 each im just wonderin if I should be askin if there is a reduced rate for kids (they knew there was 10 kids out of the 62) as we dont think kids will eat a whole afteroon tea or is it a bit cheeky?

also do you think its advisable to try to lissen to the reident dj before you book them?

    bxx
  • we have a reduced rate for children you should ask, im going to meet with the dj or at least speak to him, we had to book him as the venue do a surcharge of £300 if we dont, they better be good!
I am not bossy I just have better ideas:p
  • So, my wedding is now 199 days away... *deeeep breath*
H2B has ordered his wedding ring from the US so no idea when that will arrive! The designer is going to email sketches for H2B's approval before he makes it, so it's going to look amazing.
My sweet peas are sprouting nicely - a little too nicely actually, they are going beserk! Far too cold to plant them out yet though, so they will just have to wait. :D
Need to follow up on possible hair and make up artists; would like to get that booked before the end of the month.
STILL have not done the invites; the first attempt went horribly wrong, so I'm a bit nervous now!
We went to the day venue again; looks even more gorgeous than either of us remembered! :T We sorted out a few little queries we had, and finalised the ceremony time.
Need to start planning the actual ceremony soon; really don't want that to be a last minute job... Time to sit down with H2B and start deciding what will happen when; we have templates from the celebrant so we don't have to pluck everything out of thin air!
We've decided against the pedalpower (posh rickshaws) transport; expensive for what it is, and H2B isn't keen. I refuse point blank to shell out for a 'wedding car' (not important enough for us!), so will start asking around to see who has a nice car and is willing to play chauffeur. We'll book a taxi for the end of the night though.
The other February task is to research transport and accommodation for our guests, so that we can put lots of info on our website. So, hotels, B&Bs, the local Youth Hostel, then taxi companies (might try to wangle a discount by telling a company we will give their details to our guests thus ensuring plenty of business - worth asking! :money:), bus routes, maps etc. Almost everyone has to travel as our families and friends are spread all over the country so we want to make things as easy as possible for them. At least it's an easy city to get to!

    Welcome back!

Your venue should definitely do a reduced rate for children; I would be very surprised if they didn't, tbh. I haven't checked with our caterer yet, but if they try to charge adult prices for the children I will kick up a stink!!

As for the DJ; yes, if at all possible. If you can't listen to him live, then at least meet up with him. We couldn't listen to ours live before we booked him, because he is an event DJ, so to hear him we would have to be invited to a wedding or party that he was DJ-ing at! We've watched a few videos he has on his website, scoured the web for reviews (not just the ones on his site), and met up with him, where he demonstrated the lighting effects he uses, and generally chatted with us.

    Hope everyone is well!

    xx

    Hello everyone!

Up until now I've been a bit of a lurker :o and don't have any particular questions (at the moment) but thought it was only polite to say hello and introduce myself.

My OH proposed in October (just after our 10 year anniversary!) and we're getting married on 29th September.

    Sorted so far:
    - booked the venue for the ceremony (the only hotel in our area that does civil ceremonies as neither of us are religious)
    - booked the venue for the reception
    - sorted the food (sit down afternoon tea and hog roast in the evening)
    - decided on a cake (it will be made of cheese! Spoken to the local deli who are confident they can prepare something we'd like at a price we like!)
    - got a band (OH's brothers)
    - booked an ice cream van to come after the ceremony
    - booked a photographer (half price!)
    - put save the date stamps in our Christmas cards
    - sister-in-law is making bunting
    - started collecting tea pots from charity shops to either plant or put flowers in for the tables (only got one so far but still)

It's exciting but I'm not sure I get quite so excited about the same things as everyone else! For example, everyone keeps asking me about the dress but I haven't even looked anywhere yet! I'm confident I will find something I like and that makes me look lovely but I'm not super excited about it...

Bridesmaid dress shopping this weekend, which should hopefully be fun!

Anyway, just wanted to say hello and now I have!

  • Hi everyone, I hope I can join this thread?! My OH has asked my to marry him and I needed to tell someone! We haven't been together very long, but I'm absolutely sure it is right. We aren't telling anyone just yet cos I'd like him to at least meet my parents first (Friday ). We will be getting married in September, which is really soon, so I need to start at least thinking about planning right away. I'm hoping you nice people and your to-do lists will be a good start.

A few things we have already decided though:
    • We are getting married in my local church
    • I will be moving in with him (200 miles from where I am now) immediately after the wedding
    • We want an evening ceremony and party only (no sit-down meal)

I need to start thinking about:
    • Venues - I'm hoping this will be slightly easier as we only want an evening thing
    • Bridesmaids - I have four sisters, but I don't think my eldest will want to be one as she has a little boy and will have a 6 month old baby by then
    • Dresses - with little time to save I'm likely to be going for high street rather than bridal shop
    • Parents - my dad is currently not speaking to me since Christmas (he's not very grown up, thank heavens he left so I could have my awesome step-dad) so I need to work out how I'm going to handle that

I suppose I should also start a proper list of everything that needs to be done.

You are running a risk getting dresses from Chinese ebay sellers; the pictures they post are very rarely of the dress they are actually selling, instead they are lifted from the genuine designer's website, and what you will get is a copy. Some of the copies are good, and if you are happy with the fabric sample and service you have had so far then it's up to you whether you want to go ahead. You have very little comeback if it goes wrong though. Have you thought about buying second hand? Either through ebay, preloved, or some charity shops have bridal and occasionwear departments; I know Oxfam has a few. Another option is to have a look on the high street for general occasion dresses. Good luck whatever you decide!
