  • it's Phil Collins 0317 (I think I keep forgetting the number) if anyone wants a nose. Does anyone else need to buy a hoop for their's. I do it's an A line dress so the woman said it's a 116 hoop but it's £30 to hire from the shop £60 to buy and they are cheaper than the hire on ebay but I just wondered if anyone else had bought and could recommend anywhere?

Hi- I hope you dont mind me butting in on this thread but its worth keeping an eye out on ebay, and seach jupon as aswell as the specfic style number you need- I got a second hand jupon 116 on ebay (which is in excellent condition and I was quoted similar prices to you to hire) for about £15 (including postage), I think one of the main reasons it went for such a bargain is because its actual style number wasnt listed so its worth keeping an eye out
  • Ooh thanks pink princess I will keep an eye out. I've seen Jupon 133 a lot cheaper and it looks really similar so wondering if I try that? Or is that silly? I'm thinking I'd still rather pay £40 to buy it then £30 to hire to be honest which is what they are on ebay from petticoat places. At least I'd get to keep it!!

It will probably work out cheaper in the long run because you can sell it afterwards - anything you get over £10 will make it cheaper than hiring!

  • Well I figure people could borrow it, like you say I can sell it or it will be useful just for those days when I choose to wear my wedding dress round the house :)

As it is pink princess is very clever and I'm bidding for one on ebay which the girl doesn't know the number but I know it's the right one (checked bottom circumference) currently 99p :T fingers crossed...if not I'll just wait got ages yet :)

  • Heya ladies
    I'm new to this :)
Just wanted to say hello, we've recently booked our wedding for Sunday 9th sept 2012. It's going to be a ceremony at 4pm followed by the normal drink and photos, then a 3 course meal starting at 6pm. We have the venue to ourselves until 11pm.
It's taking place all at the same venue- woodlands castle, ruiston, Taunton. ( we live in Bristol)
It's a lovely house with nice gardens ideal for smaller weddings. And if it's nice (really hoping so!) we can have the ceremony outside of the veranda under a Rose arch.

We will only be having approx 35 guests, which is our close family.

So far we've paid the deposit, ordered save the dates/ invites/ favour boxes /guest book

Chosen a theme - cath kidston vintage -blue background with pink roses. So everything is baby pink or pale blue!

Ordered my dress from a shop after I had horrible second hand purchase! I bought my 'dream' dress secondhand over the net, but when I received it in the post she had put sequins all over it despite saying it was like new with no alterations of any kind , which just wasn't me, and when I messaged her she was rude and refused to deal with me. So now I'm minus £575.
So after much stress my partner told me to just buy one from a store and not to worry about the money. After the hassle of the dress I didn't want that style any more so I now have on order - pronovias portico.

We have an 18month son, who we want to get involved aswell, and we have been together nearly 9years!

Were trying to make this a lovely intimate wedding, cutting costs where possible, so I'm looking out for any tips!

So far I've also bought 2 bhs bridesmaid dresses in the sell, there going to be too big, but from offers on here I managed to get 2 pink knee length dresses for £60 and will pay for them be taken in nearer the time.
I'm going to make a table planner, make napkins out of cath kidston fabric, and a work colleague has started making cupcakes , so she's really keen and making vintage cupcakes for us (hopefully at a bit of a discount!) Can't wait for her trial in January :)

    And that's it so far!
Going to check out rings tomorrow.

I've started reading back through this thread , and everyone seems sooo organised!

Welcome Mummy2roo! :hello: You've been added to our list; the first for the 9th, and it's good to see another Bristol resident :D Four or five of us Babbers now...

How awful about your first dress; could you sell it on to try and get some money back from it? Your H2B sounds lovely and supportive about it all though.

You sound very organised; I've done almost nothing in the last couple of months, and am increasingly getting the feeling of time marching on... We've decided to hold off on everything, except designing the invites, till after Christmas now, as there's too much else to do! Then we'll both crack on in the New Year; still a few things to book, most important of which is the DJ, but also transport and Honeymoon, then after that it's mostly logistics of who is responsible for what on the day etc, and pretty things! Oh, and H2B has done nothing about ordering his ring, or deciding on whether he wants any groomsmen/ushers... Still time though!

Im keeping my fingers crossed for you that you get it- and for a bargain price.
  • It's so difficult knowing when to do something's, not wanting to get carried away, but also not wanting to leave it last minute and panicking .

I've advertised the dress on preloved / trade it and net mums but the only responses I've had is a lady from Madrid asking to pay by cheque!! Hmm. Might not be the time of year , everyone having to spend money out for Xmas. But it needs to go as it's taking up my bedroom space!

We need to think about transport aswell, what type of car (horse / bus) have you been thinking about?

There are loads of lists and timetables online for when to do things. I'm using weddingspot's planning tools, and have customised the To Do list for our own purposes. Another way is to write a list of everything that needs doing, then decide between you what is most important and do that first; so if you want a really good band but aren't too worried about photography then you know which one to do first. I've got a To Do list, separated by month, which I'm sort of sticking to....ish :o. Things get moved about a lot, or moved on to the following month (we've had 'Find DJ' on there since October; current deadline is now January!) but we know all the things that need doing and roughly in what order.

As for transport, we're not having traditional wedding cars - too expensive, and not that important to us! I'm thinking of using a company called pedalpower; they're basically posh rickshaws, but it appeals to my environmentally-conscious part. H2B isn't overly keen though, so at the moment we're thinking of getting a taxi for him and his Best Man, then pedalpower for MoH and Mum, and Dad and me. Then a taxi to the hotel after the evening do. We also want to lay on transport between the day and evening venues for those who need it; hopefully we'll use pedalpower for them. It's only a five minute walk so most of us, including H2B and I, will go by foot. Should be fun and a bit different!
