Our 18 year old cat has a Felix sachet in the morning and a small amount of boiled chicken in the evening plus a little dried food. He's in very good health for his age. I just buy a Tesco value chicken every 10 days or so , pop it into the slow cooker for about 6 hours then freeze the meat in yogurt pots.
Our old girl screams from the minute a chicken goes in and even louder when it comes out, if we give her any she just throws it up, but wants more next time
Obviously she doesn't get any because of it but you should see the hysterics :rotfl:0 -
Hi - I hope someone can help - My two cats, Sammie & Minnie will only eat cat food from sachets - I've no idea why, I’ve tried them with dry food and food from tins with no success – Sammie just throws it up. One bonus is they'll eat Lidl sachets (4 x 100g for 63p).
What I’d like to do is get them onto the cheaper tins. This is where I need your help! By a process of elimination I think they only like the sachets because of the high gravy/jelly content and small meat chunks. So does anyone know of any tinned cat food which has small chunks and lots of jelly/sauce,.
I’d be very grateful for your help.0 -
Carrielgreen if your cats are throwing up after eating other food than sachets I would strongly recommend you let a vet examine the cats before trying to change diets just in case there is a medical reason for the vomiting.
If you think it's just the size of the chunks then try sticking it in a blender or use a stick blender to make it nearly mush and see if they'll eat it then.DFW Nerd #025DFW no more! Officially debt free 2017 - now joining the MFW's!

When you try them on the different food, are you actually phasing it into their diet or just switching them directly to it?It's not easy having a good time. Even smiling makes my face ache.0 -
We feed our two kittens (three months old) Asda's own brand dried kitten food. They came to us on Whiskas but had terrible runs. I feel slightly guilty about feeding them cheap stuff, but the vet says they are growing brilliantly.
On the topic of fleaing, we bought a six pack of Frontline Spot On and it came to £27! Its not clear how often it needs to be used. We think its monthly, meaning that its going to cost £27 every 3 months to treat the two of them!
I know there are a few animal people on this board. Can anybody recommend getting Frontline any cheaper?0 -
I feed my 2 danes dried food usually Wagg but depends upon what our market trader has plus they get 1/2 a tin 400g sized tinned food either butchers, pal or winalot and any leftovers. I soak the dried food with a little hot water and leave to cool. They are fed twice a day. If you want to change foods mix a little of the new with the old until you gradually get them onto new food. This should avoid the runs. If your pet has had an accident use bio wash powder this breaks down the urine so it doesn't leave a smell.0

Petmeds is also brilliant if you are ever needing medicine for your pet. Just get a prescription for free from the Vet and have them fill it. It's much cheaperIt's not easy having a good time. Even smiling makes my face ache.0 -
i have just used petmeds.co.uk (through quidco was £15.28 for 3 large dog pipettes and 76p cashback :j )to buy my pooch some frontine and i didnt need a presciption, it was much easier and cheaper than having to traipse to the vets and it was delivered free:T you just cant beat it! and when i think of all the money i wasted on flea treatment that didnt work from the shops i cant praise them enough:Dproper prior planning prevents !!!!!! poor performance!Only when the last tree has died and the last river been poisoned and the last fish been caught will we realise we cannot eat moneyquote from an american indian.0

I feed our 5 cats and one border collie on Burns additive free holistic food and since doing so they are thriving.
It costs about £40 for 5 to 6 weeks for all of them and it goes down a treat, plus it's approved by the Ethical Shopper Guide and BUAV approved so it hasn't had the nasty animal tests done to it like the majority of others do and they use free range meat.
My other collie cross lab is on Butchers which is additive free. Would like to put him on the Burns as it is far superior but he has a hernia and has to stay on a good wet food.0 -
What's the cheapest way to feed a dog and cat?
I've always bought store canned food.
Feed cats on go cat meat/biscuits, dog on any tinned food, he's not fussy yet.
Though is it cheaper to make it yourself? people often mention to me they feed the dog scrabbled eggs and rice pudding, or make rice up with chicken in it, is this cheaper overall?Mummy to two girls: October 2013 and February 20160
