I have 2 big dogs, a rottie and a boxer, I feed mine on Tesco Gusto and tinned meat they both love it it doesnt make them hyper like some foods (science plan) and their coats and general health is perfect-- mind you the boxer in her younger days was partial to the odd chair leg:rotfl: oh and the rottie might get some vital nutrition from the postmans leg:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:0

Hello all,
Ive got a little jack russell called Bruno who's 3years old and is a rescue dog adn when we picked him up were told he would eat on things in jelly not gravy and hated biscuits.
Well brought him home and he gets a tin of tescos cheap dog food a day and has a bowl of biscuits down for when he wants them. so sort fo half/half if you get me. He gets a few treats now and then and loves it if he can smell me makign gravy becasue he knows he gets the remaining stuff warmed and poured over his biscuits - he seems happy wiht tescos cheap stuff adn to be honest if i had the space in my little flat id buy the big bags of dog food (6kg) for £5.99 adn store than but i just dont have room at the minute. If w are going to be here much longer though i will look at buying another like kitchen bin and storing it in there, it will always get used!tankgirl1 wrote:and don't even get me started on bob martins spot on
AAAAAAAARRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!! What now?? i use that on my poochy dog! I know its poisonous to cats though (i dont have any btw) but i make sure i put Brunos on him in the evening when we all go to bed ans little one is already in bed so it has time to dry appropriately
and must admit i never thought about Dettol - i clean the hallway floor with it - its where pooch sleeps adn can get a bit doggy smelling especially if he has an accident in the night. but i do tend to make sure that it is really well diluted and its aired properly for him so hes not confined in the space - will have to re think what i use though i think or do it when hes out for a walk with daddy so its dried and aired when he comes backTime to find me again0 -

Ok... if you buy Bob Martins spot on you will see it says WARNING Do not use on cats - this is because the DOG version is poisonous ot cats! Keep a close eye on the use by date and store it properly. If it gets too old it can turn toxic, so don't use it!
Dettol and other disinfectants that turn cloudy contain something called phenol. There is some disagreement about whether it's poisonous to dogs but it is VERY poisonous to cats. It has even been proved that cats can ingest enough of it by regularly walking on floors cleaned with Dettol solutions and then cleaning their paws for it to become a serious health hazard.
Personally I've had cats longer than I have dogs so it doesn't even enter my home and my dog doesn't get in contact with it. Better safe than sorry I guessDFW Nerd #025DFW no more! Officially debt free 2017 - now joining the MFW's!

cat food tends to be higher in protein than dog food, so feeding dog food to cats and cat food to dogs is not really a good idea long term - not enough protein of the right kind for cats in the dog food, and too much in the cat food for dogs, which may put strain on their kidneys. So they are different. Of course, the odd treat wouldn't matter, or if you run out of one or the other just occasionally - if they will eat it - mine won't, have to do an emergency trip to the shops:)0

Is tuna okay to give to cats as an occasional treat? I thought it wasn't very good for them, even though they love it.I want to move to theory. Everything works in theory.0

someone told me to use diluted Zoflora to wash floors etc when you have pets cos its the only thing that isn't poisonous to them
you only need to add about 1/2 a capful to a bucket of warm water, so maybe you could try this instead?
they sell it cheap in Wilkinsons, B&M, Boyes, Home Bargains about 50p a bottle0 -

my greyhound is fed on Supagreyhound dry food. £7.99 for a 15kg bag. My collie X has a mixer (£10 for a 15kg bag) and tinned meaty chunks (usually Sainsburys own).
I also give them past or tuna flakes mixed in as a change. They dont' get scraps/left overs (I think this encourages begging).
I also give them a cod liver oil tablet each day.0 -

I also give them a cod liver oil tablet each day. If they have anything too rich, it upsets their stomachs.0
