Our cat's fed on James Wellbeloved; we were giving him pouches of Felix but he seems to eat the dry food just as greedily, and it works out ok when you buy 2 2kg bags for £15 in Pets@Home. My logic is a better quality food will probably result in fewer vet's bills, so cheaper in the long run. Does anyone know if there are cheaper places to get JWB food - maybe costco/makro or somewhere?2015 comp wins - £370.25

Thanked 33 Times in 25 PostsI've only had my cat two months and feed her Iams Kitten/Junior food (when she came she was on Whiskas). I do this cos I've heard so many stories about the foods that cats and dogs eat.
please be careful with Iams.
My vet recommended I feed Iams to my 2 cats.
They both got urinary tract problems, and one eventually died from it, luckily the other survived but has had problems ever since.
The vet said he'd seen so many of these and had compained to Iams, demanding to review their research, and has stopped recommending it altogether.

Pudds I'm really sorry to hear that.
When I got my new kittens two years ago, they were eating Iams Dry food. When I took them to my Vet for him to look them over, he asked what I was feeding them on. As soon as I said Iams Dry Food, he told me to get them on to something else as he had noticed that cats in our area fed on Iams Dry (not wet) seemed to have a higher occurrence of urinary problems.
I started weaning them off the Iams immediately, it took a couple of weeks of course as you can't just change food with kittens.
It's a shame that this seems to be an acknowledged problem but isn't well known.0 -
Eek!
Didn't know that about Iams. What should I feed her then that is a better dry food for her?
Didn't know she could have urinary tract problems. Might have to try and persuade her to eat some wet food (although I might buy a value chicken as someone above said and try her with that).Pink Sproglettes born 2008 and 2010

If you do, just mix it in with a bit of wet food as well. They usually end up with problems because they don't take in a lot of water as well. It's a problem with most cats that only eat dry food. It's not easy having a good time. Even smiling makes my face ache.0 -
The Cats Protection League told me that James Wellbeloved contains cranberry juice to prevent cystitus. Slightly off topic but may be worth noting if a saving on vets fees is taken into account!

Sometimes it's a case of having to be tough, my little kitten had very expensive taste and it was a 2 day war before he agreed to eat the cheaper food! (it was very hard he did a good job at making me feel mighty guilty)
I did find that he tended to eat a lot more of the cheaper food though, so I have now started to mix the cheaper food with a more expensive brand and that seems to be working well as he is eating considerably less. I have to admit he does pick out the more expensive food first!!100% MFW :j0 -

Does anybody know anywhere in SE London where you can buy tins of dog food in bulk and get a discount? I feed my two either Butchers or Pedigree with a mixer, but would happily buy it in by the case if I could (I have plenty of room to store it).
