  • Our cats will only eat hi life and buscuits, everwhere stopped selling the hi life in 400g tins and as we have three cats the only alternative we could find (thank god) was Morrisons my cat tuna flakes at 55p per tin. Its basically Hi life, probably from the same factory, the strange thing is they will eat any old buscuits!!!

I have heard cats love cod cheeks boiled in milk, but haven't seen any anywhere. Does anyone know what they are.

I buy working dog food because there's no VAT on it. This is perfect for our spaniel who exercises enough that it doesn't make him fat.

*warning if you don't exercise your dog much don't feed it working dog food, it will get fat*

Occasionally when I see liver and kidneys reduced to 10 or 20p in the supermarkets I'll buy that and feed it to both the dog and cats. They love it.

just to add to the point as well about working or sporting dog food is that the protein levels are higher in them so becarefull... as this stuff can burn the kidneys out etc....if your dog is not exercised or an energetic dog....

a lot of the supermarket branded dog and cat foods etc.. come from the same factories as the big name brands so.. i think you might have to do a trial and error.... until you find one that your dog likes.....also take a look at the prices of trays of un-labeled or un-labeled dented tins from your local pet shop.. animal food store.....

just to add......we cut the cost of our pet food bill by getting bones and off cuts from our local butchers.....which we have for free.....he gladlt gives them to us....and other regular customers....as he said it saves him disposing them in the appropriate way...

in our £1 shop they have huge bags of dried food for dogs for £1...
    will find out the name.
    Kindness costs nothing :)
  • Hi,
Our dog likes Wagg dried dog food, its a complete food and its cheap - about 2 quid for a 2.5 k bag from asda, big bags work out cheaper. When I first gave it to her she wasnt keen, but if you put some stock, or hot water on it, it makes a difference. Also found that adding a splash of soy sauce or worcesterchire sauce to the food with hot water was a quick and easy way of making it much more interesting and appealing to the dog! Also, chuck in any suitable left overs for variety! (eg, meat scraps etc) BTW, our dog is now 15 and very healthy!
    Hope that helps

Morrisions used to sell packs of white fish pieces which I am sure were cod cheeks-we don't have a Morrisons near here so don't know if they still have them.

Our 18 year old cat has a Felix sachet in the morning and a small amount of boiled chicken in the evening plus a little dried food. He's in very good health for his age. I just buy a Tesco value chicken every 10 days or so , pop it into the slow cooker for about 6 hours then freeze the meat in yogurt pots.

We've had our rescue cat 6 weeks and I had no idea what she'd had previously. We moved our other cat over from wet to dried food because she only grazed during the day and I thought especially when it was hot it was more hygenic to have dry food left sitting around. This time I ordered free samples of James Wellbeloved from their site to check she would eat the stuff and started her off on a smaller bag [which was on offer]. As she tucks in quite happily have now bought her two huge bags and saved £10. I don't think she's been particularly well cared for in the past although she's been well loved so she's had to have 6 teeth taken out. Although my choice is perhaps more expensive I hope her health will improve and she might cost us less in vet fees. Well that's the theory anyway!!

I've only had my cat two months and feed her Iams Kitten/Junior food (when she came she was on Whiskas). I do this cos I've heard so many stories about the foods that cats and dogs eat.

Iams is expensive, but I also feed her leftovers like chicken or lamb if there's only a little left.

I like the idea of slow cooking a chicken and freezing it in portions. Might try that. Is this okay to feed her all the time?

She refuses to eat wet cat food for some reason

Apparently you can give a dog cat food but you shouldn't give a cat dog food. Cats need more vitamins or something.

My dog has James Wellbeloved Senior Light complete dried food. The cats have Asda tinned cat food breakfast and supper time and dried food left out for grazing. Feeding them at suppertime makes sure they come in and I don't have to get up and let them in when they start hollering at 2am!
