we usually use the clean and tidy one, we have 1 litter tray and 2 cats, it clumps really well and doesn't smell. We normally scoop at least once a day and renew/wash the litter tray once a month. One bag will last us a month.

After reading this thread I have realised that I could use litter a bit more economically. I use a 20 litre bag of Catsan per week (2 cats). Its £9.19p for one bag. I empty the lot out twice a day because it doesn't clump and also because I am worried that my utility room would smell if I didn't. I wash the cat toilet out every other day.
    Time for a change I think. :)

have you tried chick crumbs? its really good to use as a litter, its really cheap too. about £7 for a 25kg bag. its highly absorbent and flushable. Find in farm stores or by searching for "farmgate chick crumbs" its actually a chick food but smells lovely and malty so keeps odours low, I use it for all my litter trained pets! It lasts ages and isnt wasteful.

1 Please do not flush ANY litter down the loo - our sewage system is not set up to process animal doings.

    2) I use a small metal garden spade to removed clumps - far more effective than the flat plastic shovels sold to clean out litter trays. You may need 2 scrape with clumping but it's so nice to know that once the clump is removed remaining material is clean (unlike with non-clumping except wood pellets).

I agree with both points here. Some cat litters are compostable, and that ight be worth it for some people.

re litter shovels, we have a few and most are useless, but a good strong one IS useful if it has a mesh bottom, so any clean granules can filter off your collected clump.

I tend to manage my litter trays not unlike a horse's stable. I don't want a horse's bed to be filthy either and can't afford to replace all of that often. :)

Wow, that is a lot of litter you use:eek: Honestly try the Oko plus, it is a revelation:)

I buy mine from the above website. It seems kind of expensive but it lasts for ages. I clean the clumps out everyday and do the whole tray about every 2-3 weeks.

Thanks everyone for your input - very much appreciated.

With 4 cats at home I am scooping practically all the time - sigh... LOL

I have divided a 5kg bag of PAG own clumping litter between the 2 massive boxes, it was about 5-6cm deep yesterday but with what I have scooped out, down to half today - half is already gone.

So it looks like a 5kg bag will last us 2 days
