I do feed my cats Butchers Classic but not every day, their main diet is Fish4Cats dry food. Honestly, try it. I buy a £35 sack which lasts my three cats 6 weeks. So its fairly cheap. I cant sing the praises of the stuff enough. It means I dont have to shave his bum and legs any more!!

Just a question. When you are feeding one of these premium cat foods, do you measure out the daily amount for each cat and put it down or just free feed? I have very greedy 8 month old kittens and I don't want them to get fat! Thanks

Cats are not greedy by nature, they are grazers who will visit the food bowl up to 24 times a day. I have always free fed all my cats and never had a problem, nor have those I know who also free feed.

The "greed" comes from people only feeding once or twice a day so the poor cats feel they have to wolf it down whilst it's available. It's learned behaviour. Unfortunately, many people are terribly uneducated when it comes to feeding their pets.

Excellent. At the moment I am free feeding and suspect that their habits are due to being in RSPCA for 6 months and being fed morning and evening. Will continue free feeding then! Thanks

Cat pooh should be "bagged & binned". Flushing it is only adding to the potential of wild mammals such as otters, seals, dolphins etc becoming infected with toxoplasmosis, as it is not killed by sewage treatment works.

By the way, our water treatment plants are excellent therefore we are never in danger of drinking "pets doings". It's the environmental aspect that's the issue.

re the original query I think PAH wood pellets are the best, pooh is covered in saw dust therefore easy to fish out and lasts a week before there is a smell issue - but I only have the one cat.
