Oh and you'll be surprised at what you find to do at home. You won't be bored. You'll go into a nesting frenzy! Lol! We've started redecorating the house, gutting out cupboards to make room for the baby stuff, washing, drying and making space for all the tiny little clothes/muslins/blankets/towels etc. doing some batch cooking so we have plenty dinners in the freezer...I could go on. I'm also going to do all the 'maintenance' stuff in my mat leave - get my hair done, get a wax, get my nails and toenails done etc. because I know it will be a good while until I'll have the time to get them done after the birth! :)

I'm finishing at 25 weeks (not my choice - my job is ending) and I'm already exhausted at 22 weeks. Last time I finished at 31 weeks and that was bad enough. Luckily I am working from home so can usually have a midday nap, although yesterday I was working away for once and didn't get home til 7.30 - I was in bed an hour later!
I take my hat off to anyone who can work up until they're nearly due, but couldn't do it myself and quite glad the choice has been made for me this time.

With DS my midwife just asked me at one of my appointments if I had had any thoughts on what I wanted and wrote down some points in my green notes.
To be honest this time mine is going to say 'go with the flow' :rotfl:
I had all these detailed things of what I wanted and none of it happened, as long as baby is born healthy I dont really care. If I feel like I need more pain relief I will and if I need any help (forceps etc..) then fine.

I second that! With my first I went in with a full birth plan with all sorts in it, then with my second it was basically do what needs to be done! There's no harm in having a birth plan but labour can be so unpredictable there's often little point in them!

Think I finished at about 36 weeks with mine, but in all honesty I don't remember being too uncomfortable, so will probably try for about 37 weeks this time, like having a couple of 'free' weeks beforehand to get things sorted.

Nearly 22 weeks now and feel pretty good TBH! Don't know whether its the longer days perking me up or the fact that I felt so dreadful in the first few months that I forgot what it's like to feel normal!

I really do feel so much better in the sunshine though, hubby and I are definitely considering a move to Australia in the next few years. The only thing that puts me off is being so far away from family!

Thanks for the Iso/EasyFix etc advice lovecakes! Doubt our car will have isofix bits as it's so old so here's hoping we can get a base that attaches via seatbelts.

Lemonmelon I am also self employed and not thinking about mat leave yet - although I think once you get the MatB1 form you can apply for govt maternity allowance (instead of the stat mat pay you'd get from an employer) so I'm going to ask my midwife about that at the 24 week appointment in July. I work at a desk from home so hoping to keep working until labour starts!

Less than a week til my scan -eek! SO nervous.

Yay to everyone who had a good scan recently and good luck to those with scans today and this weekend!

I'm sure you'll be fine - a lot of the newer ones are designed so that you have a choice of isofix or seatbelt :) Good luck with your scan :)

I actually might read up on this then, even if it doesnt give as much pain relief it cant be a bad thing to try to get your mind into a calmful state.

How does it work with setting up a birth plan? Do we see a consultant/midwife at a set number of weeks to go through what we would like to happen?

Is trial labour having a go and seeing how it develops, so to speak? Is there a point of no return for a c section? Do you feel 'safer/calmer' knowing you have the back up of a c section? Wow 9lb 10 is a big one :)
Can you tell I havent read up on labour! Im going to leave that till a bit later on.
Yes in my case if I opt not to schedule a section they will see if I progress (dilate) as expected, usually its about 1cm per hour once established. If I don't progress then instead of hormones to strengthen contractions I'll go straight to surgery. I think I am quite happy with this option at the moment. Since they've also agreed to a growth scan and consultant appt at 34 weeks. In addition I've got to go be tested for gestational diabetes in case that's why last baby was so big.
Re: birth plans. I had the same view i.e. see how things go but my midwife told me I had to write one by the next appt. So I did and then she laughed because it was detailed. I'd looked up on Google what to include. Some things are useful e.g. do you want DH to cut cord, do you want baby cleaned before they put him on your chest? Do you wish to try breasffeeding etc.

Thanks lovecakes, i thnk as a first-timer i probably have NO idea how i will feel at 36+ weeks.

KScarlet, depends whether it is a bargain which is likely to be repeated... However, i have no restraint and would probably buy it lol.

Was so so chuffed last night. Had only ever felt baby do little kicks up until then, but last night he was really going for it. My belly was moving and everything! DH felt him kick for the first time, it was so lovely. Seems he decided to put on a performance yesterday after us having the scan :)

I technically will finish work at 37 weeks, but I'm on summer holidays 1st with working in a school, so will be off from 31 weeks.

When school goes back I will be 37+2 and possibly will work one day. My head teacher is looking into whether I am required to work 1 day after the summer holidays in order for the summer holidays not to count as my maternity leave.

Of course I will happily work one day so in my summer holidays I get full pay as with being a teaching assistant I drop to 90% of my pay as soon as I go on maternity leave.

I know that might come across as though I don't want to work, but when my head teacher told me she was due on the 20th September with her son and had him on the 4th September I was like 'woah okay, re think needed', lol.

I had planned to go back in September for 2 weeks when my original due date was the 27th.

RE the MATB1 form I don't see my midwife until I'm 25+3 so hope that's not too late for my work, will have to ask on Monday.

Hope everyone is well. I enjoyed having my hair done today, haven't had it cut or coloured since just before Christmas as when I found out I was pregnant middle of January I put off having it coloured in the 1st trimester just for my peace of mine. Totally loved having it done today though, feel so much better, it was getting me down having my hair looking so lifeless.
