Quick question....so my midwife told me I would get my MATB1 form at 25 weeks. Is this correct? My midwife only works at my docs one day a week and my next appointment is 25 + 2 days meaning I can't notify work of my intended maternity leave 'NO LATER than 15 weeks' as per their policy.

Midwife told me baby isn't viable until 25 weeks but since it's actually 24 weeks do you think I can badger her to give it to me slightly early without seeing her first! She's on annual leave for 2 weeks so I can't ask her now!

I believe (and having had a quick check this backs me up :Dhttp://www.dwp.gov.uk/docs/matb1-guidance.pdf ) that you can request it form 20 weeks onwards. If your midwife is only in once a week, I would 'phone her or the general community midwife number and ask for her to prepare it for you to collect (from GPs or wherever you see her) as you need to hand it into work by xx date (before the 25 week point). I think that's a reasonable request and they must have come across this before.

In the meantime, you can always email HR and let them know that you're pregnant and your due date is XX, with the Mat1B form to follow as soon as you have it. That way you've notified them, just in case.

Thanks Bangton! Regarding the MATB1, i think my midwife is giving me mine at my 22 week appointment? I think so long as you notify them in writing though, the form can follow afterwards.

Anyone having scans soon? Seems like there should be more this week/next going by the list :)

I've added myself to the list eek I'm 24+2 so leaving this thread for the main pregnancy one this week. Time is absolutely flying by. I'm gonna have to go Aldi and get some baby bits, there nappies are fab for those who haven't used them before, I use them on my 20 month old, great value for money, I'm Deffo not going near pampers with new baby they're so expensive and leak.

Just wondering has anyone got there matb1 yet?? I can't remember when your meant to be given it? Xxx
I asked for Mat B1 from midwives when at 20 week scan yesterday- i think from memory you're supposed to give in into employers by 15 weeks before due date. ( photocopy to DH's employers too- with letter of intention to take paternity leave)

    Hi everyone,

I had my 2nd 20wk scan at my local hospital yesterday, a lot calmer experience than the one on tuesday!

Iittle one was stubborn though and I was told she was hidden behind my belly button with her chin against her chest , so she wasnt being very helpful!

We did see a face on image of her in the scan, where we could see the 2 eye sockets and the mouth and it looked really strange/ghostly as the eyes or other features werent picked up just the sockets for the eyes being dark and the hole for the mouth black as well!

Toothfairy-thats a really nice scan photo and congrats on finding out you have a little 'man' inside there!

I asked my midwife at my 18wk apt when can I get my matb1 cert and she wrote it out and give it to me there and then! I thought they didnt issue them until you are later along, although I wont see her now till 26 weeks, so perhaps that is why.

Did anyone read the article in the daily mail today? It was about no pain childbirth without any painkillers I think it was on about hypnotherapy type thinking, supposenly kate middleton is thinking of that? The fear of childbirth is meant to be the cause of pain!
Would be lovely not to have pain by just relaxing and positive thinking, not sure its doable though! :)

With regards to Paternity leave, do you have to give a date for partner to start paternity leave or can you just request for it to start from date baby is born? Don't really want OH wasting half his time off if I go overdue! Or if baby arrives early and he doesn't start paternity leave for a few weeks after I wouldn't be happy!

Is all new to me as OH wasn't entitled to Paternity pay last time so his boss just let him take two weeks holiday from when I went into labour.

My scan isn't until the 11th, just after I get back from Rome :) Excited to see how it has changed from the first scan & also to find out what 'it' is!

Might be on the verge of buying the first big item as someone at work is offering a Bugaboo Gecko pram... will have a looksee and see if it takes my fancy :) The price is tempting me!

A couple of friends of mine have done this and it worked really well for them - I'm not sure about no pain, but they certainly managed without pain relief (apart from being in the pool). I tried it, but as I was induced the pain came out of nowhere and I couldn't handle it!
Definitely worth trying I reckon :)

Thanks sweaty betty! That's so helpful.

I'll call her then and ask her. My work said she should give it at 20 weeks or more but she was insistent that nope it's 25 weeks when the baby is considered viable!

I guess it means now I'll have to choose what date I go on maternity! Anyone else thinking of working up to their due date like me..as in due 2nd, leaving on 1st! People at work seem to think I've lost it!

We had same last time 2 weeks holiday, but from paternity leave they should be able to take paternity leave from whenever you go into labour as long as he lets them know the due date ( on mat b1 form) with letter of intention to take paternity leave.

With my DD I finished work a month before my EDD at 36 weeks. As it happened, she was 3 days early, so I would be a bit cautious of working so close to the due date. This time round I'm a stay at home mum/mature student, so don't need to worry about work!
