Toothfairy congrats on finding out you're having a boy
I worked until 38 weeks last time, from 32 weeks onwards it was so hard going though I was exhausted. I then went 2 weeks overdue so was glad I didn't finish too soon (I got so sick of constant phone calls 'have you had the baby yet' grr! I have no idea this time? Maybe 36-38 weeksTrying to save for a deposit

Hi ladies (waves) welcome to all the new people too
Congratulations toothfairy (and woo for team blue!) and lozza
Scan yesterday went really well, baby gave us a lovely wave and everything was measuring perfect so that was brilliantstayed team yellow too and made a wager with OH for 5 free nappy changes of our choosing depending on whether it's a boy (he wins) or a girl (I win)
Haven't even thought about Maternity leave yet. I'm self employed so I think I can just wait and see but my work is quite tiring and involves lots of time on my feet in the kitchen so we shall see...
I've added myself to the list too.

Definitely worth trying I reckon
I actually might read up on this then, even if it doesnt give as much pain relief it cant be a bad thing to try to get your mind into a calmful state.
How does it work with setting up a birth plan? Do we see a consultant/midwife at a set number of weeks to go through what we would like to happen?
Im consultant led because of things before and because I have epilepsy but do like the sound of a birthing pool, not sure yet even if its an option for me, but what are the normal chances for a water birth? I suppose it depends on whether everyone goes into labour the same time as you!I used a lot of positive thinking and meditation techniques last time (basically imagined I was somewhere else- on a beachMidwives were dubious that I was in labour as I was so calm but was 5cm. But then you go through transition and pain gets worse so at that point was hugely relieved to get some gas and air. Pool helps lots too. But after getting to 8cm a few hours later, I stopped progressing. So out of pool to get syntosin drip- contractions are very strong and painful with this so had morphine and gas and air too. If I knew I was having this again I'd want an epidural. Ended up with spinal block and emergency section anyway.
Only found out this week that not only was DS big (9lb 10) but he was back to back too- midwives were sure he'd turned after 8 hours on my hands and knees. Back to back (in case anyone doesn't know) means their back is at the back of your uterus- not a good position for delivery.
Anyway there'll be no syntosin for me this time. I have choice of "trial labour" or c-section as it stands with growth scan at 34 weeks. If labour does not progress I go straight to theatre for a section.
Is trial labour having a go and seeing how it develops, so to speak? Is there a point of no return for a c section? Do you feel 'safer/calmer' knowing you have the back up of a c section? Wow 9lb 10 is a big one
Can you tell I havent read up on labour! Im going to leave that till a bit later on.0 -

How does it work with setting up a birth plan? Do we see a consultant/midwife at a set number of weeks to go through what we would like to happen?
With DS my midwife just asked me at one of my appointments if I had had any thoughts on what I wanted and wrote down some points in my green notes.
To be honest this time mine is going to say 'go with the flow' :rotfl:
I had all these detailed things of what I wanted and none of it happened, as long as baby is born healthy I dont really care. If I feel like I need more pain relief I will and if I need any help (forceps etc..) then fine.Biggest Loser Weight Loss: 13 / 20 lb0 -
I work in a school so going to try to get up to October half term (4 weeks before) but with this being my first, I really have no idea!DS born November 2013 :smileyhea0

I had midwife appointment yesterday and got my MATB1
RE: hypnobirthing - love the idea of it but i looked at classes and was looking at about £250-£300 which i don't know whether it is worth it - i am quite stubborn & have already said i want to try as long as possible without any pain relief and only for medical reasons to have an epidural (not the smallest of lady's so think it would be harder to pinpoint exact location)
I had some more re-usable nappies turn up yesterday - so cute seeing them all - might need to practise on a teddy though!
10 more days until i get to see bean again - although they are making me very aware of them being there!

RE: working up until EDD - i'm due on a Thursday and reckon i will start maternity leave on the friday before - but i do have 17 days holiday to take off between now & then so might tag them on in front - but i don't know how i am going to cope being at home with nothing to do at that point - i reckon the knitting needles/crochet hooks/ spinning wheel will be thoroughly used then!0

I tried hypnobirthing last time. I bought a book with CDs. I went from having panic attacks thinking about birth to relaxing and feeling very chilled. The CDs helped me to sleep. However when it came to the birth it was all forgotten and didn't make any difference to me. I had a very bad birth though as so many things went wrong but I do feel like the CDs etc helped in the run up. If I have a natural birth this time I'll listen to them.
I think it's good to have a slight idea of a birth plan as you can consider your options. However keep an open mind!Trying to save for a deposit

 My mum said the same, it's heavy and hard going towards end but I've never experienced it before and I guess I am just wanting more time with baby at the end than time alone before if you know what I mean. I already don't want to work full time when he's one and he's not even here yet (and it's not an option!!)
I work 25 miles from home for which I commute on a bus, then train. That's the hard part because the train is a typical commuter train to a big city and it's the rushing and pushing mentality....pregnant or not. I can drive but it depends how big my bump is by then!
Actual work is fine. I work in an office so it's sedentary, if occasionally stressful (depending what I'm up to) and I'm fine to take breaks as and when.
I guess it's just the commute and the time it takes to get to work (early mornings!)
We'll see ...I could always tag some holidays on beforehand and worse comes to worse I'm paid for sick time and anything within the last 4 weeks prior to baby becomes maternity anyway!
I'm so excited to be pregnant today! :j
Massive congrats Lobey!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hello!Popping in again from the 'big thread' again. I thought it might help to have the perspective of someone nearing the end. I am 35 weeks and absolutely exhausted. I am due to finish in a fortnight and totally relieved! Mentally, I am absolutely fine, but physically I'm knackered. If you could work from home I'd say go for it, but if not you might want to think twice about going up to your due date.
I am in an office too, but sitting all day is just as uncomfortable as standing! I've got a sore lower back and tail bone, and baby is getting into position so I'm now getting those delightful stabbing pains down below. Sometimes I have to stand up at my desk and try to type standing up to relieve it for a while. Baby is right up under my ribs and all the way down to my bladder and when he wriggles around it is mega uncomfortable and I sometimes have to do laps around the office to settle him:rotfl:! What you also have to think about is the fact that you probably won't be getting much sleep either. The bigger you get the harder it is to get comfortable - I wake a lot during the night to turn myself over because it's hard to stay in the same position for long, and with baby bouncing on your bladder all night you'll be up and down to the loo.
The commute into work is dreadful because I'm dead on my feet in the mornings - and it only takes me 20mins! I have to waddle along at a snails pace from the bus stop to the office because of how low the baby is! :rotfl: Truely I thought people were exaggerating - early on I thought 'why on earth do people take mat. leave with 6 weeks to go?', but now I can see the logic why! I think I might just be able to manage 38 weeks at a push, but am so glad I'm finishing at 37.
Hope that helps with your decision and good luck with the rest of your pregnancy! See you on the next thread if you move up before I've delivered!0
