Hello to all the newbies
Chonorla - sorry to hear that you are suffering badly with sickness, gosh I don't know how you manage with 3 little ones to look after?!?
Good day for me today, handed my maternity leave letter in at work with my matb1 form, finish 5 weeks on Friday, hooray! I can feel my stress levels declining already.
Found out last night that baby likes the X factor, was wriggling away for the whole results show especially when there was singing.
Hope everyone else is well

Welcome to all those who've moved up to this thread
We (hubby and me) had a week away last week for his birthday and it was so wonderful to not be at work. Back at work today and all the same issues and stresses there as well as the same bits and pieces to pick up... grrr am I wrong to wish away the time until I can go on mat leave?
In other news, I really, really want a mcdonalds chicken burger! I've gone totally off chicken - can't even let DH eat it in the same room as me, but I really, REALLY want a mcdonalds chicken burger!!!
Hope everyone else has had a good Monday
xx

If you are going to have the baby even if the cvs comes back as positive, it doesn't make sense to have it done as there is a miscarriage risk attached to it. If on the other hand you already know you wouldn't have a downs baby and would end the pregnancy, then you would need to have the test done.0 -
Edit: this page is quite good on giving you the facts.
http://www.babycentre.co.uk/pregnancy/antenatalhealth/testsandcare/cvs/
You might want to ask why you've been offered a CVS and not an amnio (which seems to have a lower risk attached).
Your odds of miscarriage from the procedure are 2 in 100, where at the moment the chance of your baby having downs is under 1 in 100, so there is more of a chance of you miscarrying a healthy baby following the procedure than having a baby with downs. Although to be fair the chances of either of these are still very small, but you need to make the decision you can live with, not the rest of us. So would you be more upset if you miscarried than if you didn't have the test and ended up with a baby with downs? It's questions like this that only you can answer.
If you are offered an amnio instead, the chance of miscarriage is 1 in 100, so about the same as your 'high risk' of having a baby with downs. It's worth asking the hospital why you've been offered cvs instead, and also asking what the hospital's miscarriage rates are following either procedure.0 -
i dont wanna sound horrible , i am going to have the cvs test, i really need to know, ive got 2 boys already and i really wouldnt be able to cope and have the time for my other 2 aswell as they are 6 and 2, if this was my first child then i wouldnt have the test done as i wouldnt mind.
my mother in law works at a school looking after children with downs , so i do understand alot about the time and hard work and ive got someone to talk to aswell
i have thought long and hard about everything, and i really do feel that im myself i have made the right choice.0 -
Then you know already, so best of luck for the test. I would, if it were me, ask the hospital in any case why the cvs is being offered rather than the amnio (are you under 15 weeks?) as I would still want to minimise the chance of miscarrying.0

thanks salvage, im 13 weeks , i can wait another 3 weeks , in myself i would worry to much though, ill check out that website, but thanks for replying xx0

Yes, three weeks would be a long time to wait. Hope you manage to relax a bit before Thursday though, remember even though you are 'high risk' 1 in 122 chance of downs means 121 in 122 chance that your baby is perfectly healthy.0
