I love your sig, made me LOL!!
Sorry you have had run ins with the hospital, absolutely DO complain. We made a formal complaint about a sonographer, and have had nothing but the best care (so far!) - although I'm only 12+4 so still a while to go.
Congrats on finding out you are having a boy. My DW was convinced she could see little boy bits at our 12 week scan today - I am convinced it will be a boy too - so we will see!Baby 2b born March 2013! :j:j:j0 -
thanks, the ante natel side of things have been brillant, the problem is my mother has a blood condition that I could possibly have, the hospital 12 years ago took one sample, the nurse decided that my gp should discuss results with me and then decieded she was giving me treatment with out any discussion, I also have a big phobia about hospitals and cope with most things but this just really took the biscuit. I did complain at the time and was intending asking for referral to another hospital for investigation at a later date, but time just flew, come pregancy and I made the stupid mistake of mention it, and it just kicked off again, with the consultant trying to make out that I am in denial (hello sitting here in front of you!) and then tries to make out results taken by midwife and hospital this year are results going back to 2000 (err no!) problem is pregnacy, like stress masks the corrects results, tells me that I have the worst possible case of the diseases but have no symptoms (OH and not sure how that one works!) and then gets letter telling me that he and one other dept will deceide if I can get epidural which I am not happy with as I am dreading giving birth and really do not need this, oh and discovered the nurse (aka wicked witch of north) still works there! Handing in strong letter to him tomorrow along with other letters to other dept making clear that wicked witch is not to go near me or my child unless she has been to see me and explained what she is doing and I am there to supervise her. I am now going to try and push for elected C section, and going to get more hypnotherapy to help with the phobia as well, have told him he has to abide by my decision.:o
But I will be speaking too my GP and see if I can get referred to another hospital for the investigation of the problem as it needs to be done over a series of months to ensure the results are consistant, but know nothing can be started until I have had the baby. I know I have a 50/50 chance of passing this on and I am happy for things to be looked at a few years down the line for my son, so can't understand the denial bit!0 -
Oh what a nightmare for you.
It's not Thrombocytopenia is it (low platelet count) - which is what I have and I read somewhere other day I may not be able to have an epidural either - just wondered/Baby 2b born March 2013! :j:j:j0 -

Ah - its just some of it sounded so similar, like the passing it on to baby etc.. having just googled they do sound v. similar.
perhaps someone who knows more about birth could advise on not having an epidural, can you have a spinal block (I dont know if they are different, or if thats what it is actually called - but a friend had one) - there must be alternate pain relief?Baby 2b born March 2013! :j:j:j0 -
anmarj, you will be referred to the anesthetist who you normally see around 35 weeks who will discuss with you your options. The reason why epidurals and spinal blocks aren't recommended with some blood disorders is that when the needle goes in it can cause some bleeding near the spinal cord and other nerves which can cause swelling and some damage. This isn't always the case but like anything they have to tell you the risks.
Just because you can't have an epidural/spinal doesn't mean you have no options for pain relief though. There are still lots available such as water births, gas and air, pethidine, morphine, hypno birthing etc. Also if you do go for a section but can't have the spinal/epidural it will be done via general anesthetic.
Please try not to worry about it too much though. I was told all through pregnancy I wasn't able to have an epidural it had too many risks, they would need to use GA for a section etc, to then actually meet the anesthetist last week and he had experience of my medical conditions and it's now set that I will be having an early epidural as GA has more risks to me than the epidural and that I'd been misadvised. You never know how strong you are until being strong is the only choice you have.
xx Mama to a gorgeous Cranio Baby xx

thanks Ikkle87, i am meeting with them in November to discuss things and I am seeing the obstricition in a few weeeks as well, just this doctor is *********. Just frustrated as I admitted to the midwife at my 20 weeks scan I am a highly stressed person and having this fear of hospitals just makes things worse. I can understand their reasons about the epidural etc, but as they do not have conclusive proof, then all I say is approach with caution. The ante natel clinc have said that they will treat me as if I have the condition and have aleady agreed a few things with them. Just a wuss with pain:p I am !!!! scared of the delivery as it is, and this is just making things 10 times worse, if I go into labour with out this c section I can see me not going anywhere near the hospital until a lot nearer the time:o and I don't really want to do this.0

Moving over to this thread as officially 13 weeks today.
How are people finding their clothes? My jeans & work trousers are far too tight. I got some maternity work trousers from New Look last week, and ordered some mat jeans from Next online but its so hard to know what style to go for without being able to try them on. When friends have been pg i know they've got good stuff from Dorothy Perkins and Next, but both have moved to online-only maternity collections now. Annoying!0 -
I'm living in maternity leggings at the moment, soooo much comfier!
Ive got a dress from Asda I keep forgetting to pick up!
Im checking ebay though for most of my bargains and and trying to pick things I can wear after!Baby 2b born March 2013! :j:j:j0 -
Oohh - I forgot about this thread - now I have 2 in which to post and torture people!
ammarj - stick to your guns. I agree with 2b - if you are that unhappy then definiately complain now.
I can vouch for the use of pethidine but I know it isn't for everyone. We all have our own thoughts about what we want for birth. I went in to have DS with the theory that I didn't want anyone messing with my spine and i have a horror of GA as i don't like the thought of being knocked out. I had pethidine instead and it was great. my memories of my labour with DS are shortened and fuzzy which for me was good. DH said i was sleeping in between contractions which was hilarious for him. The drug had worn off by the time it came to pushing so did that on G&A. In an ideal world i would like this birth to go exactly the same way!
I am in my "fat" clothes as they are known. I have 2 different sizes of clothes from when i was a good bit heavier so have just gone up into them and will move into maternity clothes probably in a few weeks. Depends on how this bump grows. Seems to be like DS so hubby suspects another boy. We'll see!0
