Hi everyone,
I had my 20 week scan today, and would be grateful for a bit of advice? I went in, was scanned and the sonographer said baby looks fine, everything developing as it should. Bit difficult to see everything because of the angle, so I went out, drank icy cold water and shimmied a bit, then went back in and baby had moved into a better position.
We carried on with the scan, and everything was ok, and I got up and went out. Just after I'd left the room, the sonographer came out after me and asked me to make an appt for another scan at 34 weeks as the placenta was lying to close to my cervix.
Obviously I've come home and googled... and the hits seem to suggest placenta previa? Am I jumping to conclusions - she didn't actually say it was previa, so could it just be that the placenta is a bit too close to the cervix, or is that exactly what previa is?
As I said earlier, she didn't mention it during the scan, but afterwards so maybe it's not really a big deal? Has anyone had any experience of this?Don't suffer alone - if you are experiencing Domestic Abuse contact the National Domestic Abuse Helplines

One thing Ive learnt with the hospital is that if they act like its no big deal, it generally is just that - we have a  moment whilst they are all
from what I can remember the placenta still has time to shift around plenty (think it is third tri it settles to its final position), personally i would just take it as another chance to see baby (and at 34 weeks it will be nice and detailed) and go from there. If its only 'near' now its probably not going to give you any problems until the birth.

Thank you - have calmed down now. Looking forward to seeing the later scan, and if it means a caesarian, well it's not the end of the world is it?
Really enjoyed the scan today, OH and I both think we know what colour bump we have, as we both think we've seen the same thing! Don't want to say anything in case, but we're both happy either way. Oooh, I have been reading but have forgotten to update.
Finally told our families, it became too obvious last weekend so had to. Everyone is happy but also apprehensive so things were happy mellow. No one wants to jump ahead of themselves so we are now in mutual denial
Mother gave me and OH food poisoning, she does this every time we go down. I didn't eat there at all last pregnancy however I thought fish would be safe (didn't take into account the hollandaise sauce) Now recovering and spoke to NHS direct who said as long as keeping down fluids I should be fine.
I have a scan on Monday to check how mini_cub is doing, really nervous about this one, think it is because the symptoms have gone and I can't yet feel kicks so trying not to think the worst. Will know either way on Monday...
With regards to back pain, I never healed from the boys pregnancy (only 6 weeks not pregnant) so my back is getting worse by the day. I went out walking today and now can't walk. Sitting on the laptop trying to put off going to the toilet because of the pain.
Good luck everyone and hope your backs and placentas improve. I am pretty sure they wouldn't worry about the position of the placenta at this stage, it is more something they will keep an eye on.Overdraft = £1000 Emergency fund = £2500

As you've found out the condition is called placenta previa. This means that the placenta lies low and can obscure, either partially or completely, your cervix.
As your womb stretches the place where the placenta is can move away from the cervix (imagine something on the inside of a balloon being blown up). This is why they simply can't tell at the 20 week scan whether it will be a problem. They'll scan you again nearer your delivery to make sure yours is no longer near the cervix. If it hasn't moved, you'll need a c-section. This happened to my friend and hers moved out of the way nicely. It's honestly something that you can't do anything about - you'll just have to wait and see - so try not to worry about it. How is everyone? This is my last week on this thread as I'll be 24 weeks on Saturday!
I have been so emotional the last week. Like, I can't bear to be at home on my own! I was just crying and crying and it didn't help knowing that OH was down the pub. He wasn't late or anything, just having a couple of pints. But he knew I was upset on my own and he still stayed out and that made it 10 times worse in my mind.
He's working late tonight, Wednesday and Thursday and I'm already worrying about how I'll be when I get home from work tonight. I know it's all just hormones but I've found it quite frightening how strong my feelings of despair have been!
What hasn't helped I guess, is I've seen the cardiologist about palpiations I've had for the last year. Originally it was just put down to stress but they investigated further when I told them I was pregnant and now they're saying I'll have to have a procedure after the baby is born which involves inserting a catheter into my heart from the artery in my groin! I have go to back for an ultrasound on my heart but other than that, there is nothing they can do til the baby is born so I'm trying not to think about it. It was just a shock as I was expecting them to say it was just stress! The doctor was really nice though and wants my midwife to let him know when I go into labour in case he's needed to sort me out!
Sorry, my post has ended up being a bit depressing!
Good news - my best friend had her baby yesterday morning. 8lbs 7ozs and he's gorgeous. Can't wait to see him in the flesh.
Hope everyone is doing well x0 -
:hello: I am back from visiting my dad in Asia! It was awful being without my husband (he had to stay here for some foul uni work which he is out doing again today) but I kept up to date with you all and the pregnancy thread. but now can't remember what was said!
As for me, I'm 22 weeks today and our re-arranged anomaly scan is tomorrow. I will only wee once in the morning for my sample pot if I can find it, walk to the hospital, eat skittles like mishka recommended and hope it means that we will get a responsive baby who doesn't want to stay curled up head down... I'm really nervous about it now, and it's not helping with an assignment I have due Friday, meh. Felt kicks getting stronger whilst away though and something about flying gave me a definite bump - mega embarassing when an old Chinese lady got up to give me her train seat but I was knackered so took it. Looking at bump pics on babycentre though, I still don't look too bumpy until end of the day but baby feels harder in my tum if that makes sense.
When I look at pregnancy club group page, their list is so neat but they are missing a lot of us August due dates! If our scan goes well, we may introduce ourselves more
I'm feeling really stressed today and worried about money and was soooo emotional on the plane ride back - full on tears at simple chick flicks- blimey... Also feeling more tired, thought we were meant to have more energy in this trimester? Not sure if that was just cus it was Easterhols though.
Was someone on here or babycentre talking about moving? We'll be moving from a shared house to a lovely 4 bed house in June which I am looking forward to but have realised how close it is and how unprepared we are  Means no nursery furniture/decoration until my third trimester too, oopsie.
Anyway, can you tell from my ramble I've missed you all?!
