No Valentine days plans here, we never celebrate it.

Re pink again. It annoys me, when you go in the shop, and you can clearly see the to colours - pink and blue, often followed by the labels above the racks saying 'Boy age range' or 'Girl age range'. That is one reason why I bought so much in Italy - ok, they had a few pink bits, but there were other colours as well!!!!!!

My oh is taking a group of kids for games day for valentines lol. How exciting. Hopefully se him later in week.
My daughter did wear dungarees and cords and rugby shirts and does want to be a dr. She's 3.5. Lol

Name wise we both found a girls name which everyone else hates. And do far have a mutual Luke but not live for one boy name. We waiting till scan to find out what it is. Then trawl the Internet. No offence but it seems names ATM are either super odd or super popular
love you lots like jelly tots :o
  • Hi All!

Wanted to pop in and say hello

Had my scan last Weds and showed us a very active little splodge and we were put to 12 weeks exactly so now I am 12 and 5 and a week behing you in due dates rj, 22/08/12. (When they booked me in for parentcraft classes I started looking for what I thought your initials would be, then stopped myself and thought what a crazy lady I am!!)

Won't put myself on list yet as am waiting 20 wk scan date - will it take long to come through post you think? I do have the nuchal translucency (sp?) test on 8th March and though they just mentioned blood test I hear you get another scan?

The scan was amazing, crazy to see a heart pulsing and our little one waved with their left hand! Got an awesome picture from that. Just hoping it stays in there now. Hubby would love a girl but I'd be happy with either as long as it's ours!

BigAlf, I'm intrigued to hear more about you and your fam. My dad's just moved to China and hopefully I'll be flying out there in April at 5 months pregnant. He told me it was year of the dragon as my husband is very patriotically Welsh he was pleased we'd have our own welsh dragon :T
Enforced surprise, you're not allowed to know gender? Would you have asked anyway?

Best wishes to all and I look forward to sharing these next months with some of you, hopefully :)

A lot of baby clothes aren't advertised as 'boys' or 'girls', it's just that a lot of people think they should buy pink things if they're giving it to a girl and wouldn't dream of buying pink for a boy.
It's the same with toys - dolls, mini kitchen and baking kits for girls, cars and ball games for boys but you don't have to do this.

No, you don't have to do this. But gender branding is still powerful and prevalent. You might argue that things aren't marked 'girls' and 'boys' but that's simply because they don't need to be.

One aisle will be full of pink, frilly dresses and the next will be full of checked shirts and t-shirts with trucks on them. It's not difficult to work out which is which. If advertising has nothing to do with it, why keep them separate? Why not have everything mixed in together?

In fact... interestingly enough, a few months ago Hamleys stopped having a girls' floor and a boys' floor in their iconic London store - now everything is just grouped by style of product. A step in the right direction, IMO.

I attended a talk by the two sisters behind the Pink Stinks organisation a couple of years ago http://www.pinkstinks.co.uk/ They campaign against blatant gender stereotyping and are tackling big retailers about their toys. They've had limited success with Early Learning Centre I believe, getting them to put boys in the pictures of children playing with toy kitchens and ironing boards in the catalogues, not just girls... Stuff like that.

Student. Mine came through less than a week after my first scan. I have my consultant appt on Wednesday. Not looking forward to it! I doubt we be doing classes as too difficult
To get a babysitter at night and during day trying to
Find a gap at Uni will be difficult. In theory I have done this before lol

  • Oo, didn't realise you were having a consultant appt. good luck!

I suppose its your OH who will be getting the full extent of your knowledge :) My hubby was a bit miffed the first one was bumps and more specifically for mums to be but is happy to go to the other ones I think. It was a bit of a nightmare with timetable and that's what I'm worried about with the 20 wk - especially as I might be flying around the 1st of April too, oops. Nurse said it can be a nightmare to re-arrange, eek.

You feeling any better? I had a look for that starter set you mentioned in boots then realised I had no clue what you meant! We got baby's first toy on sat though, along with some maternity bras.

    Hi all

No valentines day plans here other than a card and (fingers crossed) a cup of tea in bed in the morning.

Exciting news...we have purchased our travel system :j:j:j:j Or, rather, my beautiful lovely mummy and daddy have :happyhear

It's a Quinny Buzz 3 in racoon - I love brown and blue together, they are my favourite colours :) What with getting the cot as well this weekend, I finally feel like we are getting somewhere! :) And I have also very much enjoyed writing three baby to do lists! :D

Talking of gender, I read an interesting snippet the other day. Apparently when asked to guess the gender of their unborn baby, 71% of pregnant women get it right. A real improvement on the 50% you'd expect with a sheer guess and seeing as sonographers get it right only 80% of the time, there's not much difference between being 'told for definite' by the medical profession and just going with your gut instinct.

Hi Student Mrs by the way! Congrats on 12 week scan. Tell me more about these parentcraft classes :) Don't thing there is anything like that round my area - unless thats what antenatal classes are called, in which case we have a one day workshop run by NHS which you can book after 30 weeks.
