  • Morning ladies, hope all mummies and bumps are doing well :)

Well after our scan at 21 weeks on Monday where they couldn't see the sex of baby we've decided to pay for a gender scan. I really don't care if it's a girl or a boy, i have no preference but i am just desperate to know.

The main reason being that me and DH had agreed that if after our scan at 28 weeks if we couldn't see we would go and have this gender one done. However when we looked yesterday you can only have it done until 24 weeks and after that the only scan option is a 4D one at £150!!! Double what we're paying for this one.

I spent a lot of time worrying about what other people would think of us paying for this and then decided i'm 27 years old and this is my baby, who cares what other people think? I think i need to take that attitude in all areas of life :)

So anyhoo i have an appointment tomorrow morning to find out if we're team pink or blue :) If they can't see they ask you to go for a walk around and have a drink and if they still can't see they ask you back later in the week for another look (obviously without paying extra) so now i'm all excited about tomorrow!

Hopefully I'll get there soon :o

What things are you all buying for baby now/in next few months? I have only bought a few neutral items of clothing so far. I know my Mum wants to buy the travel system (looking at the Silver Cross Surf or Quinney buzz 3) and OH's Mum is going to get our cot but I dont know what other bits to get. Is anyone getting a chaning station or are you just going to use a mat on the floor? I think I'll probably just do it on the floor. So difficult to know what bits we are actually going to need, and also I am sure other family and friend will buy/donate stuff. As things are tight I dont want to end up buying a load of stuff we will never use.

I picked up a load of Mama Mio nappies on freecycle, they look like new. Not sure how keen I am on the idea of reusable ones but as they are expensive I thought they would be worth a shot. If I dont end up using them I'll just stick them back on freecycle.

I will be trying breast feeding but will probably buy a pump too as they come with storage bags and bottles. That way if I struggle I can bottle feed too - and let the OH have a go)

I guess as long as we have the basics anything else we need/want can wait till baby comes

    Laura
I never had a pump last time and wouldn't buy one yet - you may only be able to bf for a week or so (I lasted 5 weeks and gave up on MW say so as baby was losing too much weight as I was not producing enough, so had I bought one it would have been a waste).

As for the changing station, I never got one last time but have bought my sister mamas and papas one off her for £30 and can't wait to use it. I struggled last time with very sore knees which were full of dried skin and looked awful when I had a tan as they went so bright orange lol.

I have only bought a changing mat for changing station and a white suit to bring my baby home in. Oh and !!!!!! loads of nappies lol. Everything else, like vests and more neutral sleep suits, cot, pram, moses basket, I have from last time so I am saving money for when baby is here and I know what flavour he/she is.

Don't go buying lots of things in neutral you will only regret it (if you are not finding out sex) later when you wish you would have waited - I ws the same with my first DS and wish i hadn't tried to be so organised. I am itching now to buy loads but holding back lol.

Darkphaery- having already had 3 DDs, everyone just assumes this baby was a try for a boy, they did when i had DD3 too, some people just cant accept that we were happy with 3 girls, i for 1 love it! With this baby, we were kinda resigned to the fact that we`d only ever have girls, and DH was fine about it :rotfl: I really wanted another girl, for selfish reasons, just be easier etc! We paid for a gender scan, purely because we wanted to know! We didnt care what people think. Altho Dh is of course over the moon he is having his boy, esp with family circumstances atm. This baby seems to mean alot to everyone since BIL passed away last weekend xxx

Keep diet, darling. If you are addicted to sweet stuff, you may gain your weight. During pregnancy, get all essential vitamins and minerals daily. That means sticking with the prenatal vitamins you started prior to becoming pregnant, as well as eating a healthy diet.
Fill your plate with leafy greens, fruits, veggies, and whole grains (like wheat breads and cereals). Get plenty of calcium-rich foods like broccoli and low-fat milk and yogurt, to help build your baby's bones and teeth. Stick to lean meats like chicken and turkey.

errrrm yeah thanks for that, so helpful! At what opoint did I ever suggest that I do anything other than have a healthy diet?! I think I know how to feed myself and my baby thanks, its not always easy when you're pregnant though!! I guess my suggestion of a bacon butty for my breakfast got me this response from you? Well if you'd read my post you'd have seen I intended having porridge but my milk was off. bacon butties and the like are the only things available to me at breakfast time at work and quite frankly, if I want one every morning then I damn well shall!!!

Rant over, apologies to the regular posters, just got my goat a bit that did!!

Yeah and apparently even then its not till the 3rd trimester, up till then it should be business as usual food wise......yeah right!!! I did think it was probably a spammer but it annoyed me and I'm feeling a bit down today (bored at work!) so I had to react.
