Is anyone here under consultant care? When I let my Dr know I was preg,he said he was going to recommend me for consultant care(I have arthritis),but since then there has been no more mention of it. I'm going to mention it again at my 16 week check on thurs,but am curious as to whether I should have been seen more in the meantime *confused*. And what does consultant care actually involve?:happyloveBaby girl born 27/2/12:happylove

.... Hi Lucy,
I am sure they will be able to clear things up for you if you ask on thursday. My gp said she 'will refer' me to consultant due to bmi and I have an appointment the week after my 20 wk scan (will actually be 21 wks though) the Gp said I would be seen sometime after 20 weeks. I know I have to go with a full bladder :eek: so will be weeing in a pot I expect!! other than that will wait and see.

Cunsultant care means very little TBH.. basically you see the midwife as normal for all appointments but they will send an extra hospital one through usually at 28 weeks and maybe another at 34 or 36..
I have been consultant led for all of mine and have never had anything any more exciting.
Mine is for several reasons supposedly.. more than 4 pregnancies, recurrent miscarriage (7), previous prem babies, bleeding in pregnancy, kidney problems.. and lately they decided previous section and BMI over 30 (though had she calculated it using the correct weight it wouldnt be)
I will add I havent actually seen a consultant at all.. and I am not dead!LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -

I am apparently!
They said I should have an appointment around 16 weeks but then the letter came saying it will be when i am 21 or 22 (can't remember)
for me, I saw on the forms, what triggered was ticking the 3 or more miscarriages and also BMI higher than 30...
No idea what will happen at the appointment, but i shall just go with the flow...0 -

I'm consultant led care..it just means I have extra appointments at the hospital with a cons/reg on top of the usual midwife ones.First one for me is at 27 weeks xxSlightly mad mummy to four kidlets aged 4 months,6,7 and 8:D:D xx

I was consultant led for my twins and didn't see a MW at all! Don't be afraid to ring the MW team though if you have questions, consultants are OK but I'm sure most of them are on the Autistic Spectrum (very bright, no people skills and not great at being reassuring
)
For some reason the community MW at my surgery is keen for me to see the consultants this time, I've no idea why, they already told her once they don't need to unless I get ill and she referred me again :think:Mum of several with a twisted sense of humour and a laundry obsession:o
