I had my NT bloods the same day as the scan (when they also did all my other bloods)... And yes, it appears that the scan or bloods alone aren't particularly valid, but together they can provide a better view. But as you say even then they're not diagnostic.
God what a shambles, you poor thing....... You would've thought it's not that difficult to standardise these tests nationally, including the information you receive about them. I'm frustrated for you that everyone seems to have a different approach/answer/opinion! OH has just got home from football training where one of his team-mates is expecting twins, then the hospital called them back as they were unsure whether it was actually twins... and then after lots of faffing they finally said it was twins! So it looks a bit of a palaver all over the place!
I'm glad you feel comfortable in your decision, and there is some empowerment in taking control of the situation (ie by making the decision) I'm sure. And good for you for going to a different hospital for the next scan. When is yours? Mine is Tuesday week.0 -
womble.. the maternity services are a farce everywhere I think.. I am sure you have made the right decision for you.. I hate the way consultants bully you into stuff you don't want to do.. another reason I won't see them!LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0

Hey everyone,
I'm moving over from the less than 12 weeks board so hi to everyone, I'm Stacey and I'm 12+3 pregnant :j
I went to my first scan a couple of days ago and was told they don't do the nuchal fold test but the 16 weeks blodd test is just as accurate so fingers crossed it all goes well. I have to phone the hospital next week to get results of a blood test due to my OH's little sister having chicken pox, I've never had it before and I was in the same house just before her symptoms appeared so I'm high risk of getting it  Really hope it comes back clear because that's all I need along with severe MS & now backache
I can't wait until I see the bloom of this pregnancy, it can't come too soon lol

Welcome Stacey, hope you manage to avoid the chicken pox!
WW, my heart goes out to you, it sounds liike such a difficult decision but listen to your gut instinct. Don't let the medics pressure you into anything that's not right for you.
My DH is away on a stag weekend, it's actually quite nice having the house to myself and just relaxing! Hope the rest of you have a good weekend.Yesterday is today's memories, tomorrow is today's dreams0 -

We haven't got a date for our next scan yet, waiting to hear that we've been accepted at the hospital as it took midwife a week to send the papers off.
So it appears that maternity services aren't just a state in Aus, they're a shambles here too. How comforting for us all .....0 -

I'm not entirely believing this man so as you can imagine I'm none too keen on trusting mine and my baby's welfare to him!
He lied!
Downs babies often show heart defects, webbed fingers/toes, their eyes are spaced slightly further apart and the noses are less defined... they often have smaller than average ears too and a little lower than usual.. there is something about limb length I read somewhere as wel or bone width.. I forget which..
Obviously not all of these may be noted but there are markers they can look for.LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -

Short femurs are a soft marker.
According to the specialists I have seen, all babies grow at exactly the same rate regardless of genes, ethnicity, gender etc etc etc until about 24 weeks....hence why short femurs can be used as a potential marker for downs.
Hope that's of some help!0 -
