We weren't going to find out however when we realised it was twins we have now changed our mind. Don't know why but just feel like we should find out beforehand now.

Think it is just personal preference, don't listen to anyone saying either way.

Had someone else saying I shouldn't find out tonight too, they say that the surprise is the best thing, but I'll be surprised if I find out before the birth too. I'm not going to listen and still really want to find out but OH said tonight that he might not want to know anymore so I have no idea how I'd be able to keep it from him if I did know :S WonderWomble I thought it was incredibly odd too but they said that once people know what you're having they'll just lose interest, I thought if someone is like that then I wouldn't want them as a friend/family member anyway!

Personally I would like a girl but I'm convinced I'm having a boy so either would be nice :) I'd also like to be able to go shopping for gender specific things, I bought a lot of white/neutral things from a car boot but I've found the shops tend to be very pink/blue orientated, and I've seen tons of nice things for both sexes but not been able to get them because I didn't know what Team we're playing for. At the end of the day, it's up to the couple involved and while it's ok to give an opinion, I think it's pretty rude to tell someone else whether they should definitely find out or not!
D'you know, in 900 years of space and time, I've never met anyone who wasn't important

    Hi girls,

Lots of little updates from me today!

The hospital called with a cancellation so I got to see the (student) midwife yesterday. It was great to hear the heartbeat and get reassured I'm not making the whole thing up :P The midwife seemed to presume I'd be having a hospital birth and said I'd need to book a bed by 20 weeks at the latest! Even though we're planning on leaveing Aus when I'm around 24 weeks, I think I might book a bed just in case we end up needing to stay out here (hopefully not). In any case, I'm hoping for a home waterbirth!

I'm sure I can feel movement.... It's still that trapped nerve/twitch thing, really hoping its kicks!

A good friend back home who's a nanny/trainee midwife has sent across details of a second hand bugaboo cameleon for sale... Apparently it's been cleaned and reconditioned and friend says its immaculate (and looks it from the photos). We've not even thought as far ahead as buggies, but we've heard so many recommendations for bugaboos, we kind of had that in mind.

What do you think? £250 for this little lot - it's orange, and whilst I'd liked the idea of the yellow version, I'm not going to split hairs at this cost:

    > Stroller includes:
    > bassinet carriage
    > seat frame
    > 1 year old orange canvas covers
    > 1 year old foam tires rear tires
    > orange parasol
    > travel/storage case (used 4 times so like new)
    > Mommy hook
    > under seat storage basket

Almost thinking that worst case scenario is that we decide to get a brand new one (or something else) and stick this one on ebay... No idea how much they go for, but seems like we could recoup our money, no?

Claire Bear - we won't find out the gender. Loving the idea of that fab surprise at the end of the hard work (ie pregnancy and birth). My gut instinct says boy, OH says girl - but we'll be chuffed with either as we don't really have a preference. Some people are really surprised that we're not finding out which seems odd to me... much as I'm all for finding out about health issues up front, I kind of think there is a reason babies are hidden away in tummies... There aren't very many genuine surprises in life, so why spoil this one is my view!
  • Monkey the bugaboo looks like a great price to me!!

We found out the sec- it's what we wanted to do s*d everyone else!! I too like planning and OH wanted a girl so now he can adjust to it being a boy!

    Anyone else had/having 4d scans?

We found out the sex as I like to be organised! :rotfl:I dont think it matters when you find out its a surprise anyway. We loved the fact we found out now. It was really really special and we couldnt stop smilling. When you give birth to a beautiful baby thats special enough for us so we are really glad we found out, its like the entree to a lovely meal!

Glitter- we are going to have a 3d scan at around 26 weeks we think. Our 20 week scan photo is pretty poor so we would like a nice photo to put in our frame.

I got a phone call from the hospital this morning about my blood tests, it would appear that I am high risk of having a baby with Down's - 1 in 31 chance. I've got a counselling appointment with the Consultant on Friday to talk about things further.

Wonder Womble- huge hugs to you hon. It must be a worry, for now try to think of a pile of 31 cards, only one of them the unlucky one, you still have a far higher chance of picking any one of the 30 lucky ones. Do you think you will have the amniocentesis?

If you feel like pm'ing me you are welcome to. I got a bit concerned when my risk came in as 1 in 800 when everyone elses seemed 1 in several thousands. I started googling 'worrying downs results' and found lots of posts from women with results similar to yours, lots of them had the amniocentisis and happily posted back saying all was fine. Remember there are LOTS of false positives with the screening test, I think 5% come back high risk whereas far fewer babies actually have DS. I really hope all will be ok for you too.

Thanks Summerday, I've had quite a day on the phone to the hospital who gave me rubbish info and tried to push me into having an amnio this afternoon. I refused saying I couldn't make that decision on such short notice and certainly not without discussing it fully with OH.

We had already discussed prior to the blood test that if I was high risk for Downs we wouldn't have the amnio as we would have the baby regardless. However, now I'm worried about the other Trisomy disorders such as Edwards or Patau and whether I am high risk for them also, in which case we would consider the amnio. I spoke to the Sister at the hospital 3 times today and each time she told me that those results hadn't been flagged up so must be fine. However, when I spoke to my midwife she said that those results take longer and wouldn't be back yet and the Sister should have told me this. She suggested asking the Consultant on Fri to hurry those results through, however we might not get them back in time as apparently you can only have an amnio up to 18+6 (I'm 17+3).

I had also asked the Sister at the hospital if it was worth repeating the bloods incase they were wrong and she said no they are really accurate. However when I spoke to my midwife she said that if I had had a cold or flu prior to the test then that could affect the reading. I had a sinus infection for 2 weeks and was on antibiotics for a chest infection which I finished a week before the test. She suggested asking the Consultant to repeat the bloods to see if we get a different result. Fingers crossed it was a false reading and that everything is fine .....
