Kynthia if it gets to a point where you think you are more than likely to loose your job could you take your maternity leave ASAP so you get in before that happens? Is the earliest you can take it about 6 months?

I'm trying not to worry too much as we don't even know for sure how many they want to lose at my grade, I'm more qualified than a few of my contempories, I'm well known and fairly respected by the bosses as I've worked my way up over the last 9 years, and I'm not bad at applications and interviews. Also every stage of this restructure has slipped back so far so it's possible I could take maternity a bit earlier if it does (I get 7 months full pay). However there's good rumours that my whole grade will be scrapped or merged with the one above and have to compete with more experienced and better qualified people for jobs.

If I wasn't pregnant then I'd just go elsewhere, as an accountant experienced in management accounts my skill and experience are transferable. The uncertainty is another reason hubbie wants to wait, but I think that we need to move on with lives and there are people who've spent decades not having a life for fear of redundancy that never happened. Also I think it will be impossible to get a mortgage next year if I'm on maternity leave and he's in a new job or newly self employed, so we need to do it now.

  • Kynthia you have so much going on!

We have our travel system already, keeping it in the loft at bf's parent's house for now still in it's box! Can't wait to finally get it down and start using it. It was a steal at just about £100 down from a crazy price! It's easy to use (read as: I can actually out it together/fold it down/take it apart as needed!) and came with: stage 0 car seat, carrycot bit, pram/pushchair bit, rain cover and frame and it has a good sized shopping basket with you can zip up (important for me as I use public transport primarily). It also fold up in a way that we can store it in our tiny bungalow and get it in the car next to bf's wheelchair without having to break his chair down too.

We know what furniture we want but are holding off a while longer as we don't want to leave ourselves nothing to do plus we can't decide on the decorating! Need to get it all done before I'm too far on though otherwise both bf and I will just be supervising others putting bits together!

  • Hi all, :j

Had a bad few days, feeling down n stress at work hasn't helped. Yesterday was terrible and if I am this stressed now, what is it going to be like in a few weeks time as October / November is our busiest time - think I am going to have to have a chat to my manager.

On the good note, I am on annual leave now till Mon 30th, so 10 days to chill out and relax. Should be going on holiday but DH had emergency car repairs to do last week which ate up most of the money we had saved. Still hoping to get a couple nights away this week somewhere - even if its a city break (excuse for baby shopping!), I fancy Newcastle but it is a bit of a drive from Cheshire! :rotfl:

Saw the midwife on Wednesday, was disappointed it wasn't the midwife I saw at my booking in appointment as I got on so well with her. As I went to sit in the 'Queue' 4 other ladies in front of me, I realise I was in for a wait! 1 hour 10 minutes later I was seen. Our local surgery is having building works done and the chairs to sit on are right outside the doctor's rooms so you can hear everything which I really didn't think it was right, not private at all. Couple of ladies before me (they were at least 25wks plus due to their size) had the heart beat listen too...and the whole corridor listen too! So was pretty excited hoping I could hear our little babies heart beat....nope its far too early at 17+5 in our area (I understand the reasons but so annoying!) I was in there for no more than 5 mins, perfect blood pressure, wee sample, no problems with blood results and when I told her about my back pain, I was told to book a doctors appointment! Ahh well. I don't know what I was expecting but I wasn't expecting the quickness of the appointment.

I am 18 weeks today, 3 weeks till my scan, so looking forward to the scan, very excited. We are going to find out the sex and you lovely people will be the only ones who will know. Told everyone at work and family that we have decided not to find out to stop all the questions etc! DH has talked me into finding out....plus when I am out and about, I keep looking at boys clothes, they are just so cute with tractors and cars on them, I haven't seen anything pink that I like so far. Would be good to get a couple of 'colour' items before the little one is here. Also I can get sewing - I need to make a play quilt, some bunting, cushions and curtains to match and I can not afford to make a 'boy' and 'girl' version! :D

Popped to Aldi last night and got a couple of blankets, towel and muslin squares. Again, not much neutral colours so couldn't get may items.

Hope you all have a lovely Friday evening.

Oooh nice long time off work for relaxing Mrs Bunny, hope you enjoy it! :) Not that I'm trying to persuade you but... my Mum was in Newcastle last week (bought me some lovely soft cot sheets from John Lewis) and said that the baby department in Fenwick's is 'Ooooh oooooh ooooh so lovely and so cute!' so we're going up in the next couple of weeks once we know the sex. :)

Odd that the midwife wouldn't listen to the heartbeat though, I heard it at my 16w appointment and the other day the GP which I wasn't expecting as I thought it would be too soon for a GP to confidently find it but he got there and it was lovely. :)

So excited about my scan on Monday. Really looking forward to seeing baby again, obviously a bit worried and hoping everything's OK, but mainly staying hopeful and happy! :) Thankfully I'm throwing a party for OH tomorrow night so that'll keep me occupied so I don't go crazy over the weekend! :o

Strange question but... has anyone noticed a strong pulse on their bump?! Every time I have a little rub and a feel about all I can feel is my heartbeat! Really weird! :)

I've noticed that Birdie, when I put my hands on my bump when lying in bed I feel my pulse strongly, wish I could feel the baby's heartbeat like that!

    I've been Money Tipped!
I've not noticed a stronger pulse but I can tell where baby is lying. Is that weird? I knew it was on my left as my bump felt lumpier and sure enough the mw found the hb there. Now it feels like that in the middle

My mw listened to the heatbeat with my first, but with my second she said they stopped doing it early on as sometimes it can be hard to find and if they couldn't find it they would have to refer to the hospital for a scan. I guess that loads of mums panicked and freaked out if the mw couldn't find the hb.

I've had 2 scans so far and the heartbeat was visible but will be exciting to hear it, hopefully I will on 30th Sept when I should be 20+4.

It's been a ridiculously stressful week, dealing with a cousin with mental health issues who turned up on Monday night and announced she was staying for 2 weeks then shouted at me on Tuesday evening. My mum came to take her to her house on Wednesday and then on Thursday my cousin was contacting my OH asking him to take her to a hostel. I felt bad and wanted her to come back to mine but I was scared for my safety so sent her a message saying that I was sorry I couldn't help her...she's found a friend to stay with, but the whole week's events have shaken me up! I'll relax this weekend hopefully...
