It's a long time away for me ( not due til March) but reg childcare i'm pretty sorted, my mum is a childminder and will keep me a place
means I can 'take advantage' as she will be more flexible than an 'unknown' childminder would be. I will pay her of course.
That is super handy and it's nice for your LO to spend take with her grandmother/nan.
We have to juggle childcare I work shifts, 2 days, 3 afternoon all are 10 hour shifts and then 5 days off. Luckily DH works from home so he can look after her most of the time and if he does need someone to babysit we can usually muster some family assistance. My parents are trying to sell their business so they can retire and they have already volunteered full time child minding when required, lcukily as I don't do Mon- Fri 9-5 it'll be a bit easier.
I'm going on maternity leave at the end of Oct so we won't need to mess around with familyGot married 13/11/10

Grr after being told I just need to pop in for mat1b form for proof of pregnancy for stat pay, popping in means I got told I need to see the midwife to do it. Lucky I asked early as they're only at my doctors once a week and alternate surgeries. Checked on the gov.UK site and I need the form to hr by 26 October but I want it in before then as I don't trust ours plus I'll be asking for voluntary redundancy
Was umming and ahhing about it but had a meeting today where it was made clear that my section will have to lose staff. Next window for VR opens mid October and I can get nearly £2k so seems mad not to, especially if it saves a friend's jobLittle Lowe born January 2014 at 36+6

That is a pain in the bum, I asked the receptionist and she put in a note and I went back a couple of days later and there was my MATB1 waiting for me. My mw did say that it was because she had seen me before when I had DD1 though so not sure if she would have done it if it was my first.Got married 13/11/10

yep it works really wellI work 4 days a week just now and think I will stick with that, would love to cut to 3 but don't think I could afford it without seriously cutting down on some luxuries. I can work flexi time though so can pick my own hours which isn't so bad. It was easier for my parents when we were kids as my gran took early retirement but my mum is a lot younger than she was as are my bf's parents so they all still work.
When do people start buying things/decorating room ? I'm suffering quite bad from anxiety atmI'm always a worrier and keep it to myself mostly but it's stopping me from enjoying things so much and being excited just now.

Wow, what a busy thread today.mincepiemonster wrote: »Kynthia I didn't know you were planning on moving house - hope all goes to plan and you get to put up your Christmas tree in a lovely new home. Any news re your move
I was worried that I only come on this thread with worries and moans and that everyone would get fed up with me, but actually the whole saga of trying to sell our flat is so long and complex that it's hard to fit on a forum post. We decided May last year to sell both our flats and buy a house in order to start our married life and family. I sold mine quick but my hubbies shared ownership flat (where we live) has been a nightmare. A sale fell through the week of exchange due to a structural problem with the building porch. The flats are fine it's just an added porch but the word subsidence scares the mortgage companies. We've been on our third buyers for months and now it looks like they can't buy it until the works are done, which are covered by insurance and won't cost us or new buyers anything. That will be at least six months, although I don't trust the housing association estimates as they are beyond useless and things shouldn't have taken this long as it is. We then recently decided to let it and buy anyway as I threw a paddy and refused to delay living near my family in a house until after the baby is born. However the HA are now being a pain about consent to sublet, wanting money and a deed of variation. Also hubbie is not getting the info I want as I think he'd rather wait to sell. I'm pressing on and have booked four house viewings on Saturday. Wow, that was me trying to be succinct so I bet you're sorry you asked. :rotfl: Whatever you do don't ask me about work as we're having a massive restructure and there's a chance that I'll lose my job at seven months pregnant when no other employer would touch me and I'll lose all my good maternity benefits.
Fran-o - I have a long commute and live in outer London too. I worry how I'll cope with the commute on top of the full working day when heavily pregnant as I really struggled between 8 and 13 weeks. I'm thinking of taking maternity from mid-Feb but having a couple of weeks on annual leave, meaning I'll leave at the end of Jan (I'm due 3rd March). I work for a large public sector org and paternity leave is called Maternity Support Leave and is three weeks at full pay. Hubbie works here too so he can't wait for his time off. He'd take my AML if I'd let him.
Jox - I'm the higher earner too and hubbie is desperate to give up work and either be a SAHD or do a non-office part time job like cabbing. I've always worked hard, got additional qualifications and been financially independent so it looks like I'll be working full time or close to it, if I don't lose my job that is. I'm conflicted as I've never been able to see myself as a SAHM and would hate to have wasted all my hard work, but I probably would have liked to have gone part time for a while.
I don't know for sure what we'll do about childcare. At the moment we don't know where we'll be living, if one or both of us will lose our jobs, or whether hubbie will decide he's had enough and hand his notice in. His parents are too old to do regular childcare and my parents are only just 59 and 61 so work and probably don't want to be child-minders.
I've been very MSE and the first of my ebay bundles of maternity clothes arrived today. New clothes! :jDon't listen to me, I'm no expert!0 -
Wow Kynthia sounds like it's all gotten quite complex with the house! Your maternity benefits must be great (based on the "Maternity Support Leave" policy!) so I do hope they don't restructure your job away!
I was sure I was going back to work after I had DD but when it came down to it I couldn't leave herFortunately DH earns enough to support us and we had an inheritance which means we're mortgage-free, so I feel really lucky to be spending these years at home. We hope to have completed our family (we would like 3 or 4 children) by the time I'm 30 and so I'll stay at home until the youngest is 5 (I'll be 35ish) and find a job then. Lots of people on my course when I did my nurse training were 40+, so hopefully it'll all work out for me. I will have to do a return to practice course to go back to nursing but may work as a healthcare assistant or similar instead. I sometimes miss the adult company and comraderie of work, and I do worry about returning to work with a big gap on my CV, but it was the right decision for us.

Gosh, lots going on for you Kynthia! Hope that the flat is all sorted soon and you can get a quick sale/find a good tenant once all the faffy stuff is done. Moving house is so stressful, wish it was as easy as buying and selling a car!
Really hope the job fears come to nothing and you can keep your job. Worst case scenario, would it be possible to start ML early so you still get the benefits?
Hope the pains wear off today Squirrel, I kept having them around that stage too.
Con, we've got our furniture (bought whilst on special offer and as my Mum was paying she got excited and wanted it bought sooner rather than later!) but nothing's built yet (spare room full of boxes ATM!), we're waiting until we get the all-clear at my 20-week scan before building it and starting the decorating which I still think is a little early but OH is suffering from anxiety because we haven't got everything sorted yet so for his sake we're starting as soon as we feel comfortable!
I have to admit that I almost had a panic attack the first time we went into a big Mothercare and I saw all the stuff we needed/didn't need/didn't even know what it was so how could I possibly know if I need it or not?! It's very overwhelming and I still get a little overwhelmed, I'm mainly leaving the shopping up to OH now, he's narrowing it all down to what he likes and I get to sign off on it.Overcome the notion that you must be ordinary. It robs you of the chance to be extraordinary!Goal Weight 140lb Starting Weight: 160lb Current Weight 145lb0
