Volunteer to canvass for the local Tory Candidate. The plebs love that.
I do symapthise with you, I cant imagine anything worse than having to live amongst the great unwashed workshy.
All I would say is, give them a chance though. The worst thing you could do is come across as a snooty b*tch and actually they turn out to be really nice people. You never know when your neighbours come in handy, they may have a trade for example.
Why not get them round for dinner? A good over dinner chat is an excellent way to judge character, you may be pleasantly surprised....
Then again, you may find they try to eat peas on a fish knife and next doors wife is into dogging.0 -
Mine don't.
The exception doesn't disprove the rule as a wise person said not long ago!
Inviting them round or offering them a bottle of wine as a moving in gift is a nice way to break the ice and actually start chatting. You may find that most of your problems can be solved with a friendly little chat, whereas if you go in all gung-ho people will put up barriers and you are less likely to see results.
Now dogging - with or without the shihtzu?0 -
If I was a HA tenant I would be asking them to move me if I had to live next door to someone as bigoted as some of the posters on here. It must be horrible living by people who have such a low opinion of you and such misconceptions about your lifestyle - why don't you try saying hello and being pleasant to them, other than that - move.0

Yeah, but the plebs dont help themselves. How many crack dealers do you see round upper class areas? Comparable crime? Broken washing machines on the front lawn?
I generally find benefits claimants dirty people, and they have a horrid tendancy to smoke like chimneys. You can call me bigoted all you like, I judge as I find, and I dont like (in the main) what I see. Their lifestye is a cause of their poverty, its not the other way round, despite what tree huggers like to tell you.0 -

Whereas your business men and women all do crack in their spare time and dole out abuse behind closed doors. A senior police officer once told me that the most serious cases of sexual and domestic abuse happened not in the working class areas where everyone knows what everyone else is doing, but in the middle class areas where everyone keeps themselves to themselves.0 -

I dont know a single person that does crack, cocaine or heroin. I have 2 friends of hundreds that dont smoke. You talk @rse.
That mother that hid her daughter to scoop similar money to the cash the mccanns were recieving, I suppose they were middle class were they? Nope, common as muck.
As for your police officer comment, I dont believe domestic violence is defined by class. I think its just as likely in either culture as it were. Habitual drug taking, theft and general uncleanliness is definately characterised by the plebs though. Always has been, always will be. :rotfl:
Anyone who lacks self pride cant live any other way. And without self pride, you lack the will to work. Vis a Vis benefits culture and LA housing.0 -
Sell up and buy a house on an established estate/road so that you know which are social housing and which are not. (Then the owner next door will rent their house out or sell it to undesirables - you can't chose your neighbours to that extent).
I personally would not want three dogs next to me. I think that's a lot of dogs. Also they would frighten my cats.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton0 -

Whereas your chavs will do it on the street or on your doorstep. I know which one I would prefer.0
