Car noise has upset someone

An across the road neighbour is known to start the bike and leave it running for a good while - as he gets gloves, puts helmet on, stands around a while, kisses Daddy goodbye (who came out [in pyjamas] to open/close garage door). He did this for many mornings at 5:45, which DID wake me up - and I had no need to be awake at that time and would not go back to sleep. I have double glazing which the sound would permeate quite easily. This is in addition to the security lights that are triggered by as little as a blowing leaf.
I just wonder if the bike actually needs it - as I did resort to being a fishwife one morning (after many prior to it) and shouted "just get on it and drive off can't you!?". The reply was even less well-mannered.
depends on the bike, a friends 125 needed to tick over until it reached a certain temperature otherwise it would wear the engine out due to it having ceramics in it. (this was from the owners manual instructions) think it was a Derbi, but could have been an Aprilia.Don't try to teach a pig to sing - it wastes your time and annoys the pig0 -

I checked the MOT regulations and spoke to several MOT testers on this exact subject as one of my motorbikes has a full race exhaust system on it which is more than slightly loud.
pretty near enough - but a bike MOT tester still has to judge whether the noise is percieved as too loud for the normal level of the motorcycle -
The requirement for BS stamps on exhausts was taken off the MOT a few years back.
As for race cans, if it is stamped with "For race use only" or "Not for road use" then its an MOT failure.
There were talks about an 82dB noise limit for bikes, dropping to 80 then 78 - then someone realised that a Honda VFR750 (which was a very quiet motorcycle anyway) would make nearly 78dB if it was coasting at 60mph (just the gearbox whine alone made enough noise).Don't try to teach a pig to sing - it wastes your time and annoys the pig0 -

Regardless of the age of the vehicle, the engine needs to be started to test the condition of the exhaust system to ensure its not leaking, this can only be done with the engine running.Be Alert..........Britain needs lerts.0 -

I always turn it off before i enter the close as well and roll in keeps everyone happy that way
it was very loud and he did have every right to complain to be honest it was a group a rally exhaust and 45 throttle bodies

Just driving to work is not deliberately causing distress to anyone. If he were sitting on his driveway revving the nuts off it and/or blasting 2000 watts of dubsteb through a massive speaker system, that would be deliberately causing distress.
This has nothing to do with him, "going to work," it is about him making a noise in the street at five thirty in the morning. Neither does the strawman hypothesis of him not blaring music out and revving his car up make any less noise acceptable. At five thirty in the morning, the expectations of someones noise output, is far lower than it would be at five thirty in the evening. The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark0 -

H'mmmmm. I was in the very fortunate position to own one of the 1st issue HC Viva 2300's, same as the 2.3 firenza but without the droop snoot. Great car at the time, probably worse than averasge today, great interior and dials tho':A
But I still maintain that you can get the noisiest car off the plot without annoying anyone, with a modicom of common sence, as in been there many times and done it.I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Arguable, would you have driven like that if you had a police car following?
Anyway, it hardly demonstrated clever or intelligent driving skills.
Yes, I over took two cars and a cyclist on a quiet country lane, why wouldn't you drive like that with a police car behind you?
It's not a video on driving skill, it's actually just a lovely Sunday morning trip over the local hills, if I wanted to show driving skill it would be a video on a track with a crash helmet on. It certainly wouldn't be filmed on a public road.0 -
Perhaps the OP and her partner appear not to be the sort that one can approach.
How would they know unless they tried???, shruggyI like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Of course it's not road legal, it's an mot fail, so VOSA may well be interested in to why it has a valid mot.
Unfortunately the great get out clause then steps in Mikey, ie, the car is tested as presented. Mot stations love that because ifr there's ever a comeback it's, "no' not like that when we tested it", go figureI like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
