That would very much depend on how the neighbour thinks any approach maybe perceived and that leaving a polite note was the better option. I see from your video that you are very much the sort of driver who would defend any lack of courtesy of theirs, no matter what.

I didn't write that it was an annoyance to go to work, you are now attempting avoiding the issue.

You can tell personality from a video?

Irc, that driving was within the boundaries of the law.

Well, you would have an interesting way to pass the emission test with your view on the mot.
I think you need to take a bit more advice on the subject.

If I had known mot does not require engine to run could of saved myself loads of time fitting and removing cats on my scooby.

!!!!!! some people waffle sh1te and should really get facts straight before posting.

Whats not road legal? Exhaust noise is not part of an MOT. In fact, you technically dont even have to start a car up for it to pass an MOT. (obviously abs wont work without running engine, but brakes will still work).

I checked the MOT regulations and spoke to several MOT testers on this exact subject as one of my motorbikes has a full race exhaust system on it which is more than slightly loud.

I would have prefered you to have used that quote myself, rather than my response to it.

Out of interest - does a small m/cycle need an inordnate amount of "warming up"?
An across the road neighbour is known to start the bike and leave it running for a good while - as he gets gloves, puts helmet on, stands around a while, kisses Daddy goodbye (who came out [in pyjamas] to open/close garage door). He did this for many mornings at 5:45, which DID wake me up - and I had no need to be awake at that time and would not go back to sleep. I have double glazing which the sound would permeate quite easily. This is in addition to the security lights that are triggered by as little as a blowing leaf.

I just wonder if the bike actually needs it - as I did resort to being a fishwife one morning (after many prior to it) and shouted "just get on it and drive off can't you!?". The reply was even less well-mannered.

Yes there is. You could fit an exhaust that complies with the legal noise levels.
What are "legal noise levels"? To my knowledge, there is no such thing.

I have to admit, though, that i've never been woken up by the noise from a car before...

Of course it's not road legal, it's an mot fail, so VOSA may well be interested in to why it has a valid mot.
How is it an MOT fail? There is no provision for exhaust noise in the MOT...

(or at least, from memory, they check you have not modified the exhaust to increase noise or emissions... but if you've simply replaced the exhaust (rather than modifying it) its ok).
Nothing I say represents any past, present or future employer.

I think that sounds like the most sensible idea. I can't see that you could anything more without replacing part / all of your car which would be ridiculous.

I hope it all sorts itself out.
Why? If it is causing a nuisance, then they should not deliberatley cause distress to their neighbours.
The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark

I don't think that cyclist would agree.

Really? The cyclist that has been seen, I've quite clearly slowed down for (look at the trees) and given plenty of room to as I pass him.

Arguable, would you have driven like that if you had a police car following?

Anyway, it hardly demonstrated clever or intelligent driving skills.

Just driving to work is not deliberately causing distress to anyone. If he were sitting on his driveway revving the nuts off it and/or blasting 2000 watts of dubsteb through a massive speaker system, that would be deliberately causing distress.
