  • Tbh you are coming across as a rude little girl who will scream and scream until she's sick unless he gets what she wants.

If the data on the laptop was so vital why didn't you back it up? Even I know that you can back data and I'm not the most computer literate person you'll come across.

What would you have done if it had been stolen?

In addition it is striking that you've been bleeting not about the loss of the data to date but the lack of getting a new laptop so the data couldn't have been that vital or otherwise you'd have a) backed it up and b) be more worried about that.

Here's a thought....if your mum broke the computer accidently, why don't you claim on her household insurance - hopefully she will have new for old clause and then you can sue comet if you feel that they mis-sold a warranty policy.....which your boyfriend was pressurised into buying - though if he hadn't then you'd probably come on here and moan that comet should have sold him one.

btw did your boyfriend work for comet?

Yes, it had ALOT of data on it!
When I got the laptop I moved over all my data from my old deaktop onto the new laptop.
What Comet wiped was things I had accumulated over 4 years, irreplacable photographs included.

Try reading the thread again, I have emailed the CEO. Three times.

4 years of data was lost.
My coursework, my artwork, irreplacable photographsm writings, scans, videos.

Do you actually think that just because a person didn't have a lot on a HD then it's okay to wipe it? I'm sick of replying to your idiotic posts, just stop posting in this thread altogether please as you are doing absolutely nothing to help.
  • The difference is that you could request the garage to return your car with a full tank of petrol. The op can't ask for the data back

That was kind of my point, they said they wouldn't delete it so before they did they should have contacted her to say, that data needs to be deleted so shall we do it or do you want the laptop back to back up your data before returning the laptop to us.

But I agree with the other poster who says the backing up of the data is irrelevant anyway

I hadn't backed the data up because I had owned the laptop for 1 month, and I wasn't premptive of the accident.
I was going to back it up in the next month.

Why I am not so worried about the data anymore? Because of Comet disgusting attitude when dealing with me I have simply had to accept that it is gone.
Want me to tell you about how I cried for a whole week over the lost data? Well yeah, I did. I went through many a toilet roll, but now I have learned that it is gone and that I am just going to have to accept that because I'm dealing with Comet and there is apparently absoltely nothing I can do.

Do you actually think that just because I didn't write about my sadness of the loss of data that it didn't matter? Of course it mattered, there were images on that HD of me and a friend who has no passed. I'll never get those back, it's not even like I can go back and retake those, because he's dead.

Is that the answer you were looking for? !!!! you, that data mattered! If I'm coming off as rude then you're coming across as ignorant and egotistical.

No, my boyfriend does not work for Comet.

I wonder if those preaching about data have photocopies of everything important that they own as well as data backed up and of course several backups of the backups. Watch out for people now saying, yes I have ;)

If you had 4 years of work on a one month old laptop does that mean most of it is backed up anyway?

    No.
When I moved the data over I borrowed my partners external HD.
The data has since been deleted and he is now out of the the country.

Just called Comet again and was told my boyfriend came into store on the 19th to speak to them.

I have already confirmed I am the owner of the laptop...I have already changed ownership and informed them that the laptop was bought for me by my partner, who is no longer with the company...I did this weeks ago.

    So why write this?

Alwaysgetdone....no I don't have copies of copies but when I had to send some important images to a third party, I made sure that I had a copy of those images on a cd well away from my computer, so if the computer crashed or got stolen, or the original image accidently deleted, I would have a copy. And yes, I do know exactly where that cd is - the images are that important.

Also when Junior did his course work I insisted that he backed up onto a memory stick every time he changed something....just in case. Not fool proof but better than nothing

Have you thought about claiming on your mum's household insurance as previously suggested?
If a laptop is that important to you then I would focus on getting one and then suing comet - at least then you will have a laptop for your college work.

I know you were expecting an answer from the Comet representative straight away but you will have to have patience.

We had to wait 6 months to get an answer off someone who was helping us recently ....yes it was frustrating but the wait was well worth it in the end

And when you go into the store please don't act like you've acted on here.....you've really done yourself no favours and are coming across as not a very nice person, regardless of the problems you've encountered.
