Can you imagine how extremely frustrating it is when you have a deadline looming over you, you're fully aware you're screwed but you're trying everything you can in your power to rectify the situation with a company that just doesn't care.

When i did my degree in 1989, i used paper and pens. I still got a first, so the art of using writing still works even today.

    (Sorry about your laptop though)

It was a unit studying print making and the history of photography and how the camera works today.
I needed pictures and illustrations. Lots of them.

If the work was that important you should have been backing it up at least weekly. Comet may have lost the data but it was your responsibility to back it up before you gave the laptop to them.

Maybe it was my responsibilty, but I was under the impression when they said they wouldn't wipe it, that they wouldn't wipe it :L
I'd also really like it if you contributed something useful to this thread rather then lecturing me on things I already know.

As another user has already stated, the people on this board will go out of their way to make you feel unreasonable for fighting for your rights.
At the end of the day, I've been treat dreadfully by Comet but people like you seem to think it's clever to post useless comments like this?

nerrit, why can your partner not write again to Comet, saying he purchased the laptop for you, and you are now the owner of the laptop and he would like the details transferred to you?

At least this gives you a chance to deal with the CEO again.

One reason your suggestion may not work was described in post #38...

Do not confuse owner and purchaser.

Comet only have a responsibility to the person who purchased the item from them.

Now that they are making this distinction, you need to strictly follow that protocol.

Your partner needs to progress this dispute.

Also, as mentioned by Maldives lover, there may be problems with the extended warranty now that the purchaser has transferred ownership to someone else.

I did see that post wealdroam.

I used to work for the company that administered extended warranties for Comet, and we used to update customer details if the previous owner wrote into us to say ownership had changed.

Trying to remember if the new owner could claim for the product. I must say I dealt with the CS team at Hull and they were great.

To summarise the OP has no contract with Comet Y/N?.... and chose not to back-up their data Y/N?

It wasn't a desicion, I wasn't aware that I was able to back up the data.
The screen was cracked so I couldn't even see the desktop to transfer anything to a memory stick. I had no discs and I wasn't ven aware that you could connect the laptop to another monitor. Nevermind that seeing as I actually own that specific cable or a spare monitor.

I really wish people would go back and read the posts before jumping in like this...

Nerrit, I think the backup comments relate to the expectation that because the data was important, you would be routinely taking backups at frequent intervals before the unfortunate mirror incident.
