Just sat on hold for what seemed like eternity...

The offer is available to existing online and online OneBill customers.

The person I spoke to said that a number of advisers are simply switching accounts over when asked but they should really look in to the last year of usage and the existing tariff.

In my case, because of my low usage, I would be worse off by moving to the winter tariff.

What tariff are you currently on? I don't understand how you could be worse off.

Just by chance I checked a comparator to check I was on a reasonable plan (the Powergen Dual Fuel on Line account).

I called the freephone number and was told yes, that is our cheapest tarrif. I had though already checked a comparison site and it had pointed me to Powergens 'Winter Saver' tarrif. The person said - Yes, that would save an additional 5%.

I asked why then did she tell me I was on the best plan and was informed that you have to be offered this one. In reality of course, you just need to know about it and to ask.

So I'm happy to save 5%, but not very happy that they wouldn't tell me about it by phone unless I already knew about it.

Slightly fraudulent to not tell you about a better plan when you specifically ask.

The way it was described to me, I would lose the OneBill discount and seeing as I have very low usage anyway it would probably cost more.

Saying that, reading what JMcC posted makes me think they may have been talking complete $*%

    Definately worth checking.

I now get 16% discount. The additional 5% is over and above the lot.

Might also be worth comparing your plan and being sure.......

No catches, no tie ins and a discount to boot. Thanks to the original poster for bringing this to my attention!

You don't get any discount for having Onebill, only for having dual fuel and paying by DD. Unless you're on an old version of capped prices they the chances are you'll be better off switching.

If you've already got an online account have a look to see what tariff you're currently on.

I think either I heard wrong or it was explained wrong. I think I'll give them another call in the morning...

Rang them this morning to change from Energy Online to Energy Online Winter Saver, no hassle at all. I was told that the discount applied as I manage my account online.

Thanks to OP and Graham at Powergen :D.

Many thanks to the OP!!! :T
I didn't really know what rate I was on..not very MSE I know but seeing as my joint bill is £62 a month thought I was on a pretty good deal.
Just rang PGen and they switched me onto the above tariff with a saving based on my consumption of...£220 a year  Happy Days!!!

*so pleased I nominated this post of the month!*
