Middle Lane Hoggers

Should be shot.....

Driving Leeds to London and back yesterday I got sick of the amount of people that think the middle lane is for them to pootle along with no care in the world while the 1st lane is completely empty...

I am travelling at around 70mph and have to move over to lane 3 to overtake these people as undertaking is not really allowed...

What was funny was one of the signs just outside London actually states 'Drive in the left hand lane' yet this was ignored by a few drivers while I had the whole of lane 1 to myself...

Personally, I think there should be a fine or points for Middle Lane hoggers....

Rant over.....

Driving through Leeds yesterday, one guy took it too far and was driving on the hard shoulder at 70mph, lol.. !

Another person stopped on the hatched area as they missed the turn off.

I'm getting the train from now on.

they can be technically stopped for driving without due care and attention - especially if a police car follows them in lane 1 for miles . .

They don't want to drive in the "slow lane", that's for trucks!!!

agreed driving on i95 from orlando to miami last year i found it worked better once i got used to having cars passing from both sides (and big trucks doing over 70mph!!!!) there was none of the constant varying speed like we have because people were not constantly pulling over to overtake lane hoggers.

A close friend of mine did a trip to London a few months back, afterwards he said there was some nasty woman who came up behind him in the middle lane, flashing her lights and beeping, then came tearing round him and cut him up to get into the empty 1st lane! He was most annoyed!! I had to be very diplomatic in telling him he was in the wrong (although she shouldn't react in that way TBF).
Having said that I understand why people do it, a work colleague does it knowing full well it's wrong, because of annoying people pulling out of sliproads thinking they have right of way, and also due to not being able to get out again to overtake and having to slow down. My aforementioned friend does it because he had an accident a year ago and is now very wary, with his wife and young son in the car he prefers the 'safety' of the middle lane where he's away from barriers and sliproad idiots.
    Trev. Having an out-of-money experience!
C'MON! Let's get this debt sorted!!
  • My usual trick was to go into lane 3 then overtake, then pull back into lane 2 and straight over to lane 1 in one move and hopefully see if they take the message that they are in the wrong lane and should drive in lane 1, never worked, they just stayed there pootling along...

GeeGee - must be the same driver that drove across the hatched markings in front of my yesterday as he nearly missed his turn..

Would be nice if the police pulled them over, but there are never any police around to stop them, although there are loads of average speed cameras on the M1 ......
