WARNING: Groupon teeth whitening

Hi all,

unfortunately it seems this warning is perhaps a bit late but hopefully it will still influence some people.

The current teeth whitening offer by Pure-Smiles.co.uk on Groupon (£99 down to £19) is at best dubious, at worst a scam.
Over christmas, there was an offer via Groupon by Hollywood White, whose website was hollywood-white.eu

The hollywood white website has now been changed to a different format, and the original format is now used on Pure-Smiles.co.uk (the NEW offer at groupon), which doesn't have any physical point of contact.

Having bought a voucher originally for Hollywood white, the product was never delivered and all attempts to contact the company have failed. It seems they may well have simply closed up shop and restarted their operation at pure-smiles, which is evident on this page http://www.pure-smiles.co.uk/about/

Notice it says
ll of our products have full FDA appoval, that means that the US Food and Drugs Administration have fully tested and approved all the ingredients in the Hollywood White Teeth Whitening Kits. With FDA approval you can be reassured that you are dealing with a reputable company selling only the best and safest kits

What strikes me as very surprising is that Groupon wishes to associate themselves with such an unprofessional group of people, so if there is any Groupon Rep here I'd very much like them to look into this.

To date I have not been refunded nor contacted by Hollywood White regarding my purchase.

I very much suggest people do NOT purchase this voucher, particularly as the companies (or more likely the one man band) imply their products are fully approved by the FDA - an American regulator. It is not their products which are approved, it is the practice of using the ingredients in their products which is approved.

AVOID at all costs.

Sorry to hear of your experience, OP, but aren't all tooth whitening / acai berry / instant weight loss / how-to-live-forever deals a scam????

As to this Groupon thing, probably best to judge it the same way as you would many another: by the company it keeps.

Well this is it, a lot aren't but there's a reputation around that a lot are because of scams in the past.

As it is Groupon - who are the fastest growing company in the world right now- then actually the perception is that they'll associate themselves only with reputable companies, which is also something they claim to do on their website. Which is why more than 3000 people have already bought into their latest teeth whitening voucher; quite worrying!

Hi all. We've prepared a spreadsheet of escalated issues for Hollywood White customers who have not yet received their kits. We ask anyone experiencing this issue to send their full name, registered Groupon email address, voucher and security codes and order number(if possible) to mse@groupon.co.uk. We are treating these cases as a very high priority. We can assure our customers we certainly do not want anyone our of pocket for a product they have not received. We hope this helps. Thank you.

Hello again everyone. With regard to the Pure Smiles concerns, we have established with our business partner that Dr. Davinder James is a fully registered and qualified dentist who has worked previously with Kensington Dental Spa, among others. The Pure Smiles name has been registered purely for the business of distributing these kits within the UK. Please see this message from Pure Smiles-

"We are an established and respected supplier of US FDA approved tooth whitening products to
the UK and European Dental markets working in conjunction with companies
such as Henry Schein and Biolase."

We hope this is helpful. Please let us know if you have any further concerns. Thank you.

I've had a quick look on the Pure Smiles website as I was curious about the offer and under their terms and conditions section it states:

"If you would like to link to this Website, you may only do so on the basis that you link to, but do not replicate, the home page of this Website, and subject to the following conditions:
    (a) you do not remove, distort or otherwise alter the size or appearance of the www.smile4you.co.uk logo"

Anyone have any idea why they refer to the smile4you logo, other than the majority of Pure Smiles' T&C's being a direct copy of the smile4you T&C's? Or why they refer to a Clause 8.2 in the T&Cs when they don't appear to be a clause 8.2?

Is this a cut and paste job?

There is a registered dentist called davinder jamus. Prossibly the Dave Jamus listed above.
Only a cynic would suggest that the confusion over his name would be because Davinder Jamus is registered with the General Dental Council with warnings.
The GDC website is public and allows you to search their register by first name, surname and town google that and draw your own conclusions

  • Firstly my I personally apologise to all Hollywood White customers who have not experienced the levels of customer service that both they and I expect. Hollywood White is a family run business and we pride ourselves in our commitment to our customers, we dont always get things right the first time but we never walk away from customer complaints or issues.

The reason why a very small amount of our customers didn't and in some cases still haven't received the kits they purchased is well documented in these forums and I feel no need to restate them here.

What is more important is how we are rectifying this issue:

    1. Anyone who notifies us of a genuine claim for non delivery is immediately dispatched a replacement kit, no quibble, an immediate dispatch.
    2. Anyone who has paid for a rapid postal delivery will have the difference between this and standard delivery refunded on request.

For those wishing to get in touch our address is:
    Hollywood White HQ
    28 Great Cambridge Road
    Enfield
    Middlesex
    EN1 1UT
    United Kingdom

And my email address is sunny@hollywood-white.com

On the matter of the Pure Smiles website and business this is nothing to do with us, it is not associated to or part of our business and we are issuing a formal cease and desist letter for the use of our material on their website.

    Kind regards
