  • Is anyone else having problems getting onto the Glasses Direct website? I've been getting an error message for the last couple of days. They haven't posted on Twitter for over a week either. I really hope they haven't gone bust, I was just about to order some glasses from them :(

Tried this following the 'Reglaze My Glasses' deal in Martin's weekly email. Sent off request, received return box FoC and sent frames back postage paid. Good so far. However, then received an invoice via email for £52.90. Deal was to have lens replacement for £10.00! To get anywhere near this you have to keep disputing the invoice to get rid of all the add ons.
Not worth the hassle. Rather wait for another 'Glasses Direct' code and get 2 new pairs for £25.00.

    Hi Hillieak,

We don't advertise lenses for £10 with the deal, we advertise £10 off the order total, which means our lenses start from £9.90.

The MSE code takes £10 off the order total, so if you go for the basic lenses which are normally £19.90, you get them for £9.90. However the majority of our customers don't want just the basic lenses. In the past where we have tried to use our best judgement and supplied lenses we "think" the customer wants, we were getting cases where people were contacting us after they had got them back complaining that the lenses were thicker than previous, or was missing a coating or feature they wanted to upgrade to, because in the past it was an unaffordable option on the High Street. Therefore we quote for the absolute "best result" lenses and let people tailor down to what they require, which is what we have done in your case.

Its really easy to get the lenses for £9.90. Just hit dispute and ask for the £9.90 lenses and we will make the change. It takes seconds.

Please feel free to ring us on 0115 906 3010 to avoid the email quotation system altogether.

    Cheers

Took action on the MSE offer,
placed an order on 29 May
    prescription dispensed 31 May
    personalising lenses 1 June
    and then nothing.

Is it common practice for lenses to be personalised for almost 10 calendar days?

    Any experience with speckyfoureyes.com?

    Thanks

    ReglazeMyGlasses

A bit slow i found, from sending off to receiving back about 4 weeks. If the up selling was cut out i am sure could have been quicker.
  • I've just sent my specs to ReglazeMyGlasses and have received 3 invoices for close to £40. I disputed each of them, asking for the basic lenses. I'm still getting reminders to pay the £40 invoice.

I tried phoning today but they are not answering and the recorded message says their email inbox is full (that hasn't stopped them using their outbox to send invoices 3 or 4 times though).

Not sure if I'll ever see my frames again but even if I do, it's a lot of hassle.

Edit - just to say Glasses Direct changed their mind and offered to replace my broken glasses and I now have the new pair.

I bought 2 pairs of specs from Glasses Direct for £19 plus delivery. I was very pleased initially. Then a lens popped out of one side of the plastic frame ( which seemed a bit stretched) and the glasses snapped at the bridge when I tried to ease it back in (gently).

When I contacted Glasses Direct they offered another pair for £18.30 (more pro rata than the first pair cost!) as a "good will gesture"!

It would be almost as cheap to buy another 2 pairs but I am very disappointed by the quality and aftercare and wont buy from them again.

I wondered at the time of ordering whether there may be quality problems with the popular frames being sent out on home trial so many times before being purchased, and I guess I found the answer. :(

I purchased a couple of pairs last year and the pair I wore the most, sunglasses, the arm snapped off after 9 months :( and as I only wore them when I was out in the sun at the weekends...it's still not daily use! The other pair is still OK but I only wear them perhaps once a fortnight at most. TBH have been put off using them again, will keep going to Specsavers or might try a local supermarket when they have an offer on next time. Price and make for reference for those interested.

    Hi Trev1uk,

Without knowing your order details I can't look into the specifics of your case, however I can cover some of your points in general.

We don't send more than one invoice to a customer, but it may appear like that as each time we respond to a dispute, our reply comes through as a link to your invoice via your inbox. If for example we have a conversation on the dispute system and we have over the course of the conversation made 6 replies to questions, then it will look like you have received 6 invoice links, when infact its the same link and invoice, but just with an update to the conversation. If over the course of the conversation its taking several questions to determine what lens option is best for you, the invoice amount won't change.

The other case someone may get a repeat of the link is when the system sends out an automated reminder. The total amount of reminders is limited to 3 over the course of several days, and then stops.

Regarding the phones, we do unfortunately have very busy periods such as first thing, lunch time and near the end of the day when there is a queue. However there are times in the day where the phones are dead and its easy to get through. I do apologise for the difficulty you faced when trying to reach us.

If you would like to discuss this in more detail please do feel free to call me on 0115 906 3010.

    Kind regards
