Sorry this a bit late.
GlassesDirect have been emailing me with their latest offer.

I've had sunglasses before from them and in the Cowboy frames they look cool.

Do It Yourself.
Type 39dg-ruler.pdf into Google and this will point you to a site with good instructions.
Print off the ruler (at actual size !), check that the scale is accurate against that old ruler you had from school and measure as directed in the mirror.
Should work fine for single vision lenses, varifocals will probably need a professional though.
PS. this gives PD for each eye. If they are the same (nearly always the case) just add the two and enter that. But if your eyes give different numbers look for an option to enter separate R and L figures on the site.0 -
Sorry if I'm begining to sound like an advert for GlassesDirect but they've emailed me again...
" 40% off all frames for the next four days in our flash sale, simply enter the code SALE40 at checkout before Friday 10th May.
Plus get FREE dark sunglasses tints. "0 -
Hi all, I'm new to this forum but a big fan of the site. Always looking to save some cash!
I thought I should post about some sunglasses I just received, as I couldn't see anything about this company in the glasses deals section.
I ordered some sunglasses from Tiger Specs - they only cost me £8 and they are very funky. I would have paid loads more elsewhere.
My mom also got 2 pairs of reading glasses and got £5 off - excellent!
Anyway, worth a look if you are trying to get some cheapo specs :j0 -
Have to say, I've been using Framesavers for a few years now, and they have always provided a great service for my Varifocals. I can use the same frames for at least another three or so years, if not more. I have kept some going for yonks. You send your current prescription with the frames you want re-lensed, and they come back usually within a week. Highly recommended for those who like the frames they have already (the expensive part of spectacle wearing.):)0

Spex4Less are offering complete prescription sunglasses From Under £20 including;
FREE - Single Vision Prescription Sunglass Lenses
FREE - UV Protection
FREE - Anti-Scratch Coating
FREE - Carry Case & Cloth
No code required.
I bought a pair a few weeks ago and they are great, excellent quality in line with, and better quality than some, designer pairs that I have. Their service is outstanding too - I can thoroughly recommend them.0 -

Opticians withhold this info so that people are dissuaded from buying glasses online, however,
1)You can send an old pair of glasses to most online providers and they can measure the pd from them
2)Most of the providers I researched and the two I have bought from, Spex4Less and Glasses2You, both offer 100% no quibble whatsoever guarantees, so if there is a problem then they, literally bend over backwards to resolve it (and I can vouch for this)
3)most people's eyes are a similar distance apart so they can apply a standard distance which will in all likelihood be fine - but if it isn't then they will sort it out.
I bought a pair of distance glasses, with anti-scratch, UV and anti-reflective coatings for £48 (G2Y) - the coatings alone in Vision Express would have been £30. I got a pair of reading glasses (G2Y) for £30 and sunglasses for £28 delivered (S4L).
In all cases the quality of the frames is excellent; I would never buy from a high street optician again - such a rip-off.0 -

Having an inaccurate PD causes un-prescribed prism to be induced - in a child this could cause the eyes to permanently deviate from parallel which is one of the reasons why kids can't get glasses online. In an adult it causes eyestrain and headaches and if seriously far out causes double vision. ON higher prescriptions even 2mm would be outside British Standards.
What you choose is up to you but having 3 pairs of glasses isn't very convenient for most people - a pair of photochromic (light reactive) varifocals or bifocals would have done all three jobs in most circumstances so you don't need to carry around 2 additional pairs and keep chopping and changing between them. The only time you might need sunglasses is when driving because the UV inhibitor in your windscreen stops the lenses form going dark - I just keep a pair of clip ons in the visor, or you could have separate prescription sunglasses.
Incidentally almost all opticians offer exchange warranties these days, and always on varifocals. The only time you might have an issue is if you have your eyes tested at one place and order specs from another as it isn't always clear who is at fault and for that reason I'd always advocate getting your glasses made up where you get your eyes tested.
Incidentally if you always get your glasses from a registered dispensing optician you will have the benefit of a person with 3 years training who is qualified and registered with the General Optical Council (to whom you may complain in the event of an unresolved dispute) and has by law £5 Million of professional indemnity insurance.0 -
Has anyone used Best4Sunglasses ? They have some Armani glasses that I'm looking for, they seem very cheap? Any reviews at all?
Thanks.0 -
No phone number, no fax number. It appears to be an incomplete template website, although the domain has been registered for 4 years. Personally I wouldn't use them.
Additionally they offer the option to order by phone, by dialling 0000000!0
