Of course - you don't need to talk to your creditors - send them the letter, recorded delivery if possible. If they do phone for a few more days - try and ignore them, hang up if neccessary, refuse to answer their security questions.

Definately. Do not answer the phone to them at all.

It might also be worth sending them the token payment letter see the National debtline website for lots of very useful info.

You can even write your letters via there website. they are really helpful and can give really great advice if you talk to them

:coffee: The debts can definitely be sorted. There are many different solutions out there and one will be right for you - you just need a bit of time and help to go through the options.

    Hi,

Also speak to your midwife, I'm sure I remember seeing some leaflets about debt advice for pregnant women when I had my 2nd. Plus make sure you are claiming any benefits you can. There's the HiP grant (Health In Pregnancy) which is available to ALL pregnant women. See if your MW can get your appointment moved forward, if you can have a cancellation too.

    Hope this helps

  • If you don't feel up to phoning the samaritans you can email them as someone said on the last page - I know I hate using the phone (bit of a social phobia!) but I found emailing them so brilliant when I was suicidal 5 years ago - just having someone reply and care and give you something to think about is wonderful. Go and see your GP/Midwife too, about your depression. They might have some good suggestions for you, even if it's just with places to meet other new mums so that you have more of a support network around you.

Money is just money, it can seem like the end of the world to us when it's all falling down around our ears, but there's so many more important things in life, like your dad, your bubba, your dog etc. Money problems can ALWAYS be sorted, one way or another. I hope you feel better soon hun.

With regards to your debts - the worst thing really is that you may have to go bankrupt -and even that in the grand scheme of things is not that bad. Your health, that of your dog, your unborn child etc are the most important things - sometimes people get in a pickle - sometimes their own doing, sometimes they get landed in it and bankruptcy is there to give people a fresh start (and this is the worst case scenario-there are other options ).

The creditors - well they can't jail you ( you can only be jailed if you don't pay council tax and this is so so so so so (I don't have enough so's) rare that it really, really isn't worth worrying about - they are hardly going to go around arresting law abiding citizens that have got in a bit of a mess who are trying to sort things out are they?), they can't take your house, o.k they could take you to court and the judge will agree and say yes Mrs X owes so much and you will then point out you have no money so the court will let you pay in installments - even if that is an absolute minimal amount. Frankly there is nothing a creditor can do to you that is worth you worrying this much over - they rely on their implied power and threats.
