The official IAM book yes, but not the officially recognised book on driving skills.
This is the official book on driving in the UK.

I think it's really nothing wrong with driving at 50mph on the inside lane of a dual carriageway/motorway. What some seem to misunderstand is maximum speed limit is a maximum, no law requires one to be driving at that speed (this has already been pointed out by others).
As for learner test, if one drives at 30mph on a 40mph dual carriageway in good clear condition then will fail for not making progress appropriate to condition.0 -

That is the official book Authored by the Police Foundation.
I didn't suggest that they did, the IAM is just a charity foundation, it is a well intentioned outfit, set up and run mainly by ex Police Officers, however it has no official standing.
If you want the " last word " on driving, then the book that I linked to is the one that you need.0 -

Yes you did - you said the book I linked to was an IAM book - it is not, it doesn't even have a IAM logo on it so I dont know why you think it is.
Roadcraft has been round for donkeys years and is the official book written and used by the police - it is also recognised by DSA.
I'm sure the official DSA book is very good although it seems to cover more basic techniques. Its probably worth reading both.0 -

The difference between you and me is that I acknowledge I can improve as a driver and I'm taking active steps to study better driving techniques which I then try to practise.
You, on the other hand, are oblivious to why your actions may not be best practise and think everyone should drive like you. You think that by driving slower this automatically makes you a better driver - this is not the case IMO.
@Inactive - that link is for the official book.
a) save fuel
b) become less stressed
c) be more aware of other road users & potential hazards that are ahead.
now doing 70mph on a motorway is perfectly fine if someone wants to do that then so be it, however you're using more fuel then me but probably only reaching your destination a little sooner then you would at 50mph! Then of course there's the volume of traffic & tailbacks to consider, it's a bit like the hare & the tortoise so in effect you're probably not getting to your destination that much sooner.
Also I never said I was the perfect driver, I passed my test 11 years and during that time you do pick bad habits at the wheel however I do minimise my chances of a crash by driving slower & leaving gaps between me & the car in front! It's not rocket science is it & I don't need a advanced driving course to teach me it's just common sense.0 -
Sorry for going back a bit, actually a lot, but I can't believe no-one caught this. You WOULD fail your test if you consistently drove at 50mph in a 60mph limit. You would be an 'L' driver, and therefore restricted to 45mph. Aahh, I had to hold that in for about 200 posts!
50 on a dual or motorway - sorry, but you're 'allowed' to do this. It's an inconvenience for others as it will force out the 60 drivers, blocking a 2 lane, or just squeezing people further out on a 3, unless there's heavy traffic, then it really snarls up.
Minimum speed on a motorway? There are plenty of types of vehicle that aren't allowed on, that aren't capable of going fast enough, but I'm sure we've all been doing 0mph on a motorway in traffic before. And what if there's fog, ice etc.
As much as anyone reserves the right to drive at whatever speed they like, so do I. Your speed is none of my business, and mine is none of yours.
And no Geordie, speed does not kill. Inappropriate speed kills. Motorways are both the fastest, and the safest roads in the UK, what does that tell you?0 -

.
I did not, this is what I wrote;
" Or better still, buy the official version, the IAM, although well intentioned, is not officially recognised "
I later on posted a link to the official one.0
